The Box (2009)
i expected much more
What i liked: I liked the first dilemma. Money versus some random people's welfare. At that point i might have push the button too.
i sort of liked the message: every action have a consequence. Be greedy is not good. We are all selfish. yada yada. I say sort of like it because all this is also a cliché.
What i didn't like: The duration of the movie: so boring i had to make pauses all the time (thank god i watched it at home, i would have fallen asleep if i were at the movies). This is a classical twilight zone script. but one of the reasons why twilight zone is so Good is because it's mostly a 30 minutes show. This script was stretched too much. Boring.
I also didn't get why the movie had to be set in the 70's. It was supposed to be a decade of experiments? totally random. (it might be because of the original story it's based on, but doesn't make sense on a 2009 movie. doesn't add anything to the story). it could easily be the 50's or 60's. or even 2009.
Waste of time :(
Disturbia (2007)
teen movie disguised as thriller.
What a waste of time. And the one star i gave was for the trailer. It was a very good trailer, full of suspense. And i thought that was worth seeing. And then...i realized this was a teen movie disguised as thriller. I don't know what David Morse is doing in such a movie. He really is scary. But that doesn't make his character believable. Why, if he has secret place where he kills and keeps his victims, would he keep one in the vents and kill without close his curtains? For example, there's more stupid stuff... And the girl, the new neighbor, what a hell does she see in such a loser like Kale? I really thought, as they showed the father being killed, that they were connecting Mr Turner to it, but no. So, the accident/murder was there only to fill time.
The Queen (2006)
another film made too early
It's quite strange to see a biopic of a person who's still alive. Specially when it's the Queen of England!
But passed that..
I think the movies tries to pass the idea that she's a funny, cute old lady that could be just our grandmother. But well, she's not (our grams). At the same time, kinda ridicules the Blair couple.
And the thing about doing biopics about living people is that everyone knows the real characters and expect physical similarities. They done an excellent job with Helen, she's Elizabeth totally. Prince of Edinburgh is as near as possible. But Charles is so wrong, so so wrong. The Queen Mother looks like a maid, not good as well. And Blair...oh God, he looks like Mr. Bean!
But at the same time, he appears as the hero that convinced the Royalty to do a public ceremony, instead of a private one. Clown or hero? Hard to tell the view of the script.
And the press is seen as the killer, indeed (the Queen Mother makes a joke about killing a photographer). As i believe it was an accident, i can't like this view. Strange to see real footage mixed with the movie. Not sure what to think of that. It seems like yesterday that i stuck in from of the TV watching those news...
Political's opinions a side (whiether the Queen is first the Queen and then mother and grandmother or the reverse, as the movie describes), i think the movie should have been about Princess Diana.
The People respects the Queen, but loved the Princess
Breaking and Entering (2006)
A must buy!
You can only distinguish honesty if you know dishonesty.
I fell in love with Minghella only with Cold Mountain (loved, loved). So i was looking forward for this movie. And i didn't get disappointed. At all.
And i loved how he mixed moments of great tension with some humor. That's Vera Farmiga's character. Very funny. She play's a prostitute who hangs with Will (Jude Law) when he plants himself outside his office (the object of breaking and entering).
At first it was weird to see Binoche as a Bosnian mom. But she plays it wonderfully, even speaking the language! Jude Law is very charming, as always, giving a great charisma to his character.
The end may be a little too perfect, but the movie is good for itself.
A delight!
Born Equal (2006)
not bad
I just watched the movie and i'm not quite sure if i like it.
The movie focus on the life of several people, kind of a portrait of social variety in London. It turns around a rich guy (Colin Firth) who's seeking for meaning in his life and starts helping people in need. Starting by giving money to some homeless in the subway, he then joins an association that seeks a shelter to people in desperate situations.
At some point in the movie, it gives us hope. That happiness can appear even in worst times. But then...I didn't expect such huge drama, and i'm not very keen with such pessimist views..
I think the big message is that all people suffer, no matter what they have or how rich o poor they are.
It's not a bad movie. And Colin Firth is worth to be seen :)
