In Limbo (2023)
One of the best shows I've seen in a long time.
The show deals with tragedy, loss, family, friendship, and it does so in a funny and heartwarming way.. while the topic is serious and affects people everyday, the show approaches it with humanity and humor where appropriate, and with seriousness when it is needed. Questions of spirituality and religion are addressed head-on without being preachy or dogmatic. The characters are well developed and the casting and directing are top notch. We need more shows like this that are relatable and human and not just about sex or dysfunctional families.. I binged the entire season in one night, I just couldn't stop!
The Other Two (2019)
Finally a funny and original series!
The premise of this series is original and believable. The writing is great, and with Lorne Michaels, Molly Shannon, and Ken Marino in the mix, you know you're going to get some great laughs. The different storylines within each episode keep the viewer interested and invested.
The character of Streeter was clearly written with Marino in mind - the cluelessly innocent moron constantly looking for approval while trying to impress others - reminds me of his character in Party Down.
The show pokes fun at the superficial world of pop stardom while also making a (somewhat) serious statement about how kids tend to be sexualized and exploited in that industry.
I'm a fan!
The Diplomat (2023)
Not a very convincing political "thriller."
As a big fan of Madam Secretary, I thought I would really enjoy this show. And it's okay, but not great. Rufus Sewell is fantastic as always (big fan of his). Keri Russell isn't as convincing. And the writing is subpar. In many scenes, Kate Wyland (Russell) will be engaged in a conversation with someone, only to be whisked away for another side conversation with someone else. This happens 3 or 4 times per episode. It's amazing she gets any work done considering she never seems to be able to finish a single conversation. This is poor writing and poor directing.
Where Madam Secretary spent years logically paving the way for Sec. McCord's ultimate ascension to the Presidency, The Diplomat shoved that unlikely possibility down our throats in episode 1 with a very implausible storyline about the current VP and the potential for Wyland to get the job handed to her.
This show falls flat.
Life & Beth (2022)
Relatable, funny, sad all at once!
Not the biggest Amy fan, but she's done a great job with this show. Just binge watched the entire 10 episode release in 2 days, and it made me laugh and cry and think about the relationships in my own life. I love Michael Cera's character and I hope he stays around as a regular part of this series. Anyone writing a hateful review about the show either didn't actually watch it, or they don't have much depth of personality. Can't wait for season 2.
Almost Royal (2014)
So well played it seems real!
Took me one or two episodes to realize this was fake. But seeing the unwitting Americans reaction to George and Poppy and their pompous naivete is hilarious. Some of the things they say seems so innocent and yet are hilariously inappropriate. I'm hooked on this show! Georgie overdoes the aristocratic affectations a bit with the right hand constantly hovering over his right hip, but poppy is delightful!
