Drive (2011)
This is THE best film of 2012!
"Drive" is the best movie of the last year! There's nothing negative to say about this wonderful piece of art. The use of slow motion and music is just great. And I don't have to say anything about Mr. Goslings work, right - Ryan is just amazing in everything he does (rememebr "Stay"). "A real hero, a real human being,---" - just to have the idea of using that song is priceless, this director really learned his lesson. If you did 'nt see it yet, do it - it will knock you flat! Just like "Donnie Darko" did! This is another great masterpiece and a reason to be a movie nerd! Love from Berlin

Julia (2008)
2 hours, 13 minutes and it's still playing.....
Frank:
Way too long and way too boring - poor Tilda! Why would she do it? Because she's the only one getting payed? I don't know... - she got an Academy Award and she's a very good actress - but we all know that. So, why do we have to see this film?...Mhmmm,... I don't know, I hope Tilda does. I don't like it and I give it a 2 - it's not entertaining and I don't even know what genre to put this movie in. It's not a drama, it's not a thriller, it's not an action movie - so what is it?
Sean:
It was terribly nothing, her performance was fine but it didn't mean anything and it didn't enriched my life at all. It's a shame. BTW: Frank and Sean are a couple and watched "Julia" together @ home on the couch with expectations and hopes but were disappointed!
The Fall (2006)
55 Minutes
What is it? A comedy? A masterpiece? An inspired triumph? Is it spectacular, with arresting visuals and a clever storyline? Or is it visually spectacular and emotionally engaging? Or might it even be beautiful, moving and surprisingly accessible? Perhaps even (and this is the best:) amazing in its independence and purity? I'm sorry, it's none of that! He tries and tries and tries and doesn't score - shame, actually "The Midnight Meat Train" was better. 55 minutes was enough. He can't direct. He might be a great photographer, but he's not a great director - the scene where the guy from "Pushing Daisies" says the same sentence 12 times to the little girl: "are you trying 2 save my soul" and she says, like a hundred times "what?"...this scene is torture and the opposite of clever, moving, engaging, accessible or spectacular.... okay, bye...just wanted to share.....I gave him the chance he deserved...should have known better after J's-Low!!!
The Wrestler (2008)
Not Darrens Best
Ya ya...Perhaps I expected 2 much, I definitely did! After "The Fountain"....and all the hailing reviews from all over the world. What should I say? The story is okay but nothing more, didn't touch me a lot - Mickey is acting okay, but was definitely better in "Sin City". I give it a five because of the (only!!!) one track by Clint, which was great as always but: he only composed ONE. Marisa and Evan Rachel were okay 2 - but had greater performances in the past, like "In the bedroom" and "The Missing". So, Darren-Fans: you can watch it but don't expect another masterpiece like "Requiem" or "Fountain" - Crossing my fingers for Darrens Future!
Hancock (2008)
homophobia in 2009?
How could anybody creative be able to produce such a piece of trash? I don't understand - could somebody please explain? Please, I'm really irritated, I can't take it anymore. How self-hating are the gays in Hollywood? How self-selling are the producers and actors and screenwriters in America? Why did Charlize take this screenplay, with this amount of hate in it? Charlize, why? This screenplay is SO anti-gay, it's horrible! I think you should give your Oscar back - because it's not right to do that to your gay fans, to support these phrases in a screenplay, you are not Merryl, Barbara, Cher or who ever. What a piece of hating trash - I'm sorry, we are living in the 2000's? Hello! Hollywood, why are your numbers going down? It is a shame our society is so unthinking and prejudiced that such a homophobic scene/film could be created by people who present themselves as being "supportive" of equality. And: snore - bore
Hate you.
Speed Racer (2008)
Poor Susan Sarandon
This movie sucks big time. The only good thing about it is that it was financed through Germany, and no real movie maker was disturbed in Hollywood - they shot the whole piece in the old GDR, in Potsdam. Whatever, everything is trash about it, the story, the characters, the actors, the "animation" which looked like originally aired in the GDR, and of course the uninspired blablabla-directing by the brothers... - one of them only visited the set in complete drag..okay, what a shame that the movie is so uninspired, cold and heartless, perhaps next time he should wear nothing at all - if you like good comic/anime-adaptations try Batman Begins or Sin City, even Spi Kids 1-3 here better, even Xanadu... piece of trash - I hope it flops big time!
The Fountain (2006)
M A S T E R P I E C E O F A G E N I U S - great film, thanx Darren
Great movie! Thanx Darren, for taking this time of your life to give us this - for me it was the absolute perfect movie and I thank you so much Darren, wonderful. Clint Mansell also directed this film, I know he is a great friend of Darren and they should keep working togethet, they are sharing the same soul.......and of course Rachel - a goddess for the silver screen.... I can't describe it, it's just a movie, but it IS a movie - and a wonderful one. It's about everything why we are and why we are here - love - I can onle recommend this to everybody who loves and loves movies - this is the perfect one for you!Thank you soo much Darren, you are a great director an you choose the right job! thank you
Severance (2006)
Sorry, garbage!
Yeah, yeah, yeah..... Thank you for all the good reviews here, that's why I bought this one. I have no idea how somebody on IMDb could like this...., do you people don't love "movies"? It's trash, not good, not good, I repeat: not good! It's boring, not funny, not scary or thrilling or gory. The actors try to do something with the stuff the script and the director is telling them - they had no chance, ever! Just a bad boring story told by an untalented director (Have you seen CREEP??, okay...)he has no talent, is not sophisticated and so on, so: please don't rent or buy this one - it's a waste compared to SHAUN OF THE DEAD for example or HAUTE TENSION, stay away, stay away. It is garbage!
The Village (2004)
Fight for this movie!!!!
This is a MASTERPIECE, so everyone else be quite please! It's everything a movie should be: emotional, well written, well directed, supremely acted and fantastically put together: a perfect picture. The story is just human, like we all are, what we all long for, hope for and fear of - feelings!!!! Please let it be true, don't just let it be a fantasy. WOW!!!! 10 out of 10, - So, why criticize this work when you know it's a good one? Watch "Casino Royale" for a change and tell me which one of these two was a film - Thanx and bye! And, by the way: M. is a great writer/director! Imagine writing a story, telling people how to do it and getting it in theaters.....
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
Top, Mr. Nispel!
I really didn't expect much from Marcus Nispel, he being the "wunderkind" Music Video director from Frankfurt, Germany, worked for George Michael (he did the milestone "Killer"-video), Madonna (The Marlene Dietrich in the factory-"Express yourself"), Elton John and Chrystal Waters ( "100% pure love") - all great videos, but him doing a remake of a classic????? Huh, I was stunned. He also did an uncompromising job with the edgy storytelling, camera-work and editing. He had a very very good Hollywood (Michael Bay) -debut. Keep this up Mr. Nispel and you will be staying, you better, you are not 22 anymore - peace from Berlin!
Haute tension (2003)
Great timeless Masterpiece of a young and creative genius
I really don't understand people who are writing that the "twist" at the end wasn't good, perhaps they don't understand film-making, perhaps they forgot the opening sequence in the police station (it's her telling the story how she wants it to be, no matter if it's true, believable or anything else), perhaps they expected something else because everybody was telling things about the "twist ending"..., I don't know! Just to be clear: it's still a movie, not a TV-documentary....:) I just can say, that this is a masterpiece from a young genius! It's great fun for fans of the genre, all the people I recommended this to loved it, of course. It's uncompromising until the very last frame of the picture and that's pretty rare. Well "Irreversible" had the same intensity, okay. That's great new/young European film-making in tradition of the masters. So watch it and make the ratings go up, friends! This is a very good one
Stay (2005)
Wow! A Masterpiece, a classic is born!
What a ride! This movie was such a delight, I can only recommend it to everybody who loves intelligent movie making from people who know what they do for a living. Marc Forster is a genius, he really is. This time it's true: "It kept me guessing until the end!". The interesting thing about Forster is that he is apparently able to do any kind of genre, thick drama (Monter's Ball), lighter family film/drama (Finding Neverland), and thriller (Stay), haven't seen Stanger than fiction yet but I assume it's a comedy - Wow, what a talent. Of course the acting from Ewan, Naomi and Ryan is great. So is the editing and the camera-work. I'ts plain wonderful! Watch it, you won't regret it!
Ti piace Hitchcock? (2005)
Neither Bian or Alfred / Argento is old, poor guy!!!!
We love Dario, we own almost all of his classics, but this......? somebody here said it's a movie for Brian de Palma and/or Alfred Hitchcock-fans....okay! hello, can you hear me? hello, are you there? next time: please watch a Brian or Alfred movie before you make such a comment, thanx - this is trash out of the television gutter from hell, don't watch it, it's a waste of everything you earn: time, money, brains....... there where no Brian or Alfred-like sequences, you know what I'm talking about, there was just "under budgeted" television shots, like in a European tele-novela from Spain..., go figure! - but, I have to say, Donaggios music was great, what a waste, poor everybody involved! Especially the "people" trying to say these words Argento was putting in their mouths... bye from Berlin
Casino Royale (2006)
Oh my god - unbelievable piece of garbage!
Where to start? I don't know.., really! But after the "fabulous" black&white "pre title-sequence" (yawn) the newly styled opener came up I was like "okay, let's leave the theater", we didn't, I suffered through some of the worst, 2+ hours of my poor little life. anyway, I don't want to make this too long because this one doesn't deserve it: I just purely hated it, it's not James it's the Broccoli-Clan trying to stay in the cash-flow, the "we tried to modernize the old Bond"-kind of cash-flow. When I saw the first wigged stuntman on the cranes it was really over - don't put money in this, please - it's garbage - sorry lovers!
