Precious minutes of my have been wasted......
16 October 2007
.......watching this worse than awful, painfully terrible piece of garbation. I hate to trash art... but this deserves it.

I can't believe Tamala Jones decided to go topless for THIS??? I knew watching this movie that it was shot in less than 2 weeks.. but I had no idea it was 9-days. There must have been some decent money offered for a 9-day shoot (think about it... possibly $50K for 9-days work or less?).

Clifton Powell, one of my favorite actors... wasted in this film. Same goes for Lynn Whitfield, Robert G. Smith. Who in the world was the actress that was cast in the role of Cathy? A castaway from Flavor of Love?

This movie plain old sucked.

Don't waste any time at ALL watching this.

Excellent Movie... Bravo!
27 April 2006
The movie was absolutely excellent and did something that many films don't do anymore: Gave you what you paid for.

The young actress was dead on in her portrayal of a young black girl who's dealing with the environment she's been dealt, but not allowing herself to be limited by it. There were portions of the film where she felt some level of self-consciousness about not being of the same economic status as others, but it still didn't stop her from reaching for what she wanted. her belief in her own potential is inspiring. She reminds me of many young black girls that I grew up with, including my sisters and several that i know now.

Angela Basset, I think, was miscast, in that her physical appearance just didn't convey the characters plight well... she looks too good... LOL! Her acting, however, was superb as always and I enjoyed her in the role after getting beyond the initial clash in my mind.

Laurence Fishburne was also excellent, as always, and proves that typecasting can be broken with superior acting skills.

I just kept waiting for Laurence to refer to Angela as "Anna Mae" and slap her up during their scenes together, a la "What's Love Got To Do With It". LOL This film is a must see!!

Wow... horrifyingly horrible
30 June 2005
I should have checked the board prior to wasting a rental fee and 50 minutes of lifetime watching this utter mess of a movie. In protest, i refused to finish it and would like my life back.

Don't even bother looking at the DVD case on this one... it has to be one of the worst movies ever made.

Christian Slaters stock has slid even further with me.

The effects were bad, the acting was bad, the idea was bad, there's no rhyme nor reason for the set-up... I just don't even understand why this made it to production. Someone believed... or was hoodwinked. There are other bad movies that I would have rather watched again than to have seen the portion of this movie that I saw even once.

Garbation, garbagio... doo-doo.

Gotta Stop....
24 November 2004
Warning: Spoilers
... to smell the roses sometimes... very nice short. POSSIBLE SPOILER I can appreciate the need to simply refuse to be rushed or have life commanded/directed by the time-clock. Great message in the film. Blair Underwood was excellent in conveying the frantic nature of the average joe's life in chasing the dream or hurrying to what comes next. He also conveyed the relief of letting go well at the film's end. Taking off the watch was pretty much the final stroke in not allowing himself to be controlled by time and worried about being on time cause some unknown force say you have to be.

Enjoy life and take our time getting to the "next" thing... that's the message I carried form the film.

Wendigo (2001)
What a load...........
25 October 2004
of garbage!!

This was a free rental from blockbuster that I wish I had used on something different. heck... I want my time in life spent watching this nonsense.

No redeeming value whatsoever... I viewed it based on the box summary and cause Patricia Clarkson was in it. What a stinker. Indie or not, this was trash.

The Wendigo looked like it was either claymation, Rudolph on a bad day, or one gigantic puppet. IT DID NOTHING!! NOTHING, I TELL YA!!

The acting was fine... no problems there... but there were some scenes that went on entirely too long... conversations that took place that neither added to nor made sense in the story line... the sub-plot being that the family needed to bond was OK, but the attempts to plump it up by having the wife and hubby in conversations with folks form the city were pitiful.

nonsense... utter trash.... skip this one if you know what's good for you!

PURE, UNADULTERATED.......
25 October 2004
Garbagio!

I don't even want to waste life commenting... just don't bother renting it... it's not gory, not scary and not well done....

Definitely one to bypass.

I'm only writing more cause I have to provide 10 lines of comment to have this posted. There is nothing to say other than I'm glad it was a freebie at blockbuster... no.... actually, my free rental was wasted STILL!!

The acting is horrid, the cinematography non-existent, the kill scene made with red ink (look like it anyway)... whatever you're looking for is NOT in this movie, unless it's a badd experience you seek. BLAIR WITCH 2 was even better than this... heck BW2 looks pretty great in comparison. This is not a B-Movie... it's an M movie for moronic.

DOO-DOO!!

The racism was THERE!
26 July 2004
To the guy who questioned the racism in the movie.... you need to do a little homework, cause that was all truth. Although the movie was a fictionalized account, the racist elements shown were very much true.

The idea that it couldn't have taken place in the "60's", of all possible timeframes, is absurd and quite ludicrous. All of the major black acts from the 60's were subject to racism where they were treated poorly when off stage. ALL used the service entrance, or kitchen, to enter the venue in which they played. I'm talking Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, the temptations, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Jackie Wilson, Stevie Wonder.... you name 'em.

The practice of fronting songs recorded by blacks with white groups was commonplace in the 50's-60's. Unfortunately, many racist whites didn't want their music to have a black face on it.

Do your homework prior to debunking historical fact.

The movie is THE all time music themed rags-to-riches film ever made.

Hot Garbage
6 January 2004
I saw this as an On-Demand film through my cable TV service.

Well, I demand my money back. Seems like Samuel Jackson will accept ANY role as long as it pays. This was the role that will make me leery of seeing anything he stars in the future. Sub-par at best for ALL involved.

Hot garbage comes to mind when I think of this one...cause it stunk!

Jacked Up (2001)
I liked it
3 December 2003
Here's a gem of a B-Movie. The story was told well and played out nicely. I expected it to be trash, cause it contained rappers as cast members...and an R&B singer to boot. Imagine my surprise when I couldn't stop watching until the last minute. I was completely taken by the lead character Dre and felt for him in his predicament. I applaud the writer for not crapping out with a cheery ending. I thoroughly enjoyed this flick.

I got what I was looking for. I had no idea that Brittany Murphy could be so funny/goofy. She impressed me with her comic chops including the physical stuff.

Ashton is going to be HUGE!

BRING IT OOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!!

Not just another "black" movie
18 June 2003
A nice normal movie that happens to have an all black cast. I don't feel it was a "black movie". Cultural idioms aside, anyone could relate to the language and themes of the movie. Nicely done. I feel Gabby U really performed well in her role...made me forget it was her. LL gave a great performance as well. The worst was the Royale as the gay guy...just not happening: He needed to be more flamboyant to be funny...the lo-key thing didn't work, though he had some otherwise funny lines....the director MUST've held him back, cause I've seem this guy in action before...he's as funny as anybody, if not funnier than most.

All said, I'll probably buy this one on DVD. I hope these types of movies continue to be made.

one.

One of the All-Time best
5 June 2003
That's how I rate it anyway.

The action is very good...not your usual run-of-the-mill fare. Jason s. should have a nice action career lined up for him. Hopefully a sequel will follow. SOmeone has commented on this becoming a nice franchise for Jason. I agree and certainly hope so.

Great Romantic Movie
5 June 2003
I enjoyed this movie thoroughly. The plight of two friends who believe that they are not for each other is timeless. I love how the movie ended. I was surprised to see Amy Jo Johnson, especially in the bedroom scene. She has grown up beyond the power rangers, that's for sure.

The cast is full of pretty, but next door-type of people. I watched this movie during the week after work and dinner one night. A very nice and pleasant surprise. A very "cool" vibe throughout the film. Whaley is a good actor. The whole cast deserves applause.

Love transcends all
5 June 2003
Great movie. A great testament to what true love is all about....I'd go through that plus more to find my wife, if I have even the slightest hunch that she's missing but alive and in danger.

Well acted....great to see Adrian Brody in yet another fantastic role. NO short-coming to this film at all, IMHO. Will buy it on DVD as it's worth seeing again and again.

For those who say the movie shamelessly uses the Serb conflict as a backdrop...pshaw! Go get a documentary about it. At least this movie acknowledges a conflict that too many Americans never paid any attention to at all, thus sparking interest and hopefully more attention to future/current world events.

Wow
5 June 2003
I liked this movie a lot. I really related to how Marty felt after finding out his wife had been getting it on with another guy. I could imagine how I'd feel.

The movie was well acted, well scripted and gave me what I believe to be a realistic view of the location and vibe of 1969. Viggo did a great job, as he always does. Diane Lane is one of my favorites...liked her in Unfaithful as well.....hmmmmmmmm...starting to see a pattern in the roles she plays...

One of the All-Time Greatest
14 March 2003
Anybody knocking this film MUST have read too many rave reviews prior to seeing it, which can ruin any entertainment experience.

The same thing happened to me with Memento....to much hype killed it for me.

This movie was off the hook and FULLY delivers. Anybody researching it prior to viewing it should stop here and just see it for yourself.

Trust me.......

100 Girls (2000)
8/10
gender philosophy
12 December 2002
As soon as I started viewing this movie, I knew it was related in some way to 8 Days a Week.....great light hearted, smart and funny script. The lead characters are almost Shakespearean(sp) like in their musings about life and women. Very funny stuff, but a little raw w/ the sexuality, so not for pre-teens...that's why it's rated "R".

Matt's monologue in front of virgin hall is quotable....some cool stuff to say and remember when dealing with someone you love. The idea of looking at the woman you love the same way a young boy would a birthday gift (different scene) is also waaaaaaaaay cool...but hey, I'm somewhat of a romantic...and my wife loves when I turn it on!!

All in all, a great movie 8/10.....Also see 8 Days a Week!

ONLY OKAY
4 December 2002
Didn't do the book justice......it wasn't the WORST I've ever seen, but I've seen some "B" movies that kill this one.

The message however, is still powerful. I would hope that the movies or books encourage folks to pick up the Word of God and see what it has to say to their hearts.

Looking forward to the next 2 installments AND the TV series next year.

Thinking Human?
14 November 2002
Thinking humans should "think" about this movie and not out-think themselves.

It's not about anything but faith......you either desire it or you dont..accept or reject....

The movie can't touch the book, but how many movies based on great books really DO capture the essence of the book? Very few.

However, the message is still the same.......time is running out....this message was written thousands of years ago.

I first fell in love w/ hip hop..........
30 October 2002
..........when I heard Spoonie G's Love Rap & Spoonin' Rap. Hip hop was ingrained into me and many native new yorkers just like the movie portrayed it. The movie speaks to my heart, in that hip hop has been romanticized on the big screen....finally!

Sanaa was great, DIggs was great, Mos Def and La were both off the hook. The essence of hip hop was put up on the screen in this movie, so if you didn't know before, you've seen it now.

I went to high school with Slick Rick, Dana Dane and the whole Kangol Crew (Al Sneed, Lance Brown and Omega the Heartbreaker to sum them up) and know them personally. The opening sequence in the park with the three aforementioned rappers doing their thing brought tears to my eyes......that was the purity of hip hop, before millions could be made....these cats were street celebrities that you could reach out and touch at anytime.

The simple fact that the movie is saturated in hip hop culture is enough of a remark for anyone who is in LOVE with hip hop.

ANyone who slammed this movie as dumb or stupid is quite simply cuturally stagnant...you just don't understand.

As far as comments go about the movie's shortcomings.....please, spare me the high-minded movie speak. If you didn't live it, you can't say what is and isn't believable. I KNOW these characters in many different people that I deal with....the director and writers GOT it.

It's like that, y'all!!

Well done!
30 October 2002
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Nicole Kidman blew me away with her mastery of the russian language AND her russian accent while speaking in english. I went to college with MANY RUssians and wow....she's got it down pat.

I'll keep this one brief...if you like great stories that stray away from the expected, see this movie. If you don't, see it anyway as you may find yourself suprised.

Off The Heazy!!
9 September 2002
Let's get one thing straight......If you haven't lived the Hip-Hop lifestyle, you cannot properly judge this movie in ANY negative manner. I was a teenager in the mid 80's and danced (electric boogie) in the streets and roller rinks of NY for 4+ years. I went to LA when I was 16 and battled other dancers on Venice Beach, which was the MECCA of electric boogie street dancers.

This movie was the best of it's kind!! Michael "Boogaloo Shrimp" Chambers was arguably the best in the craft and shined in both this movie and it's predecessor. Don't view this movie looking for a wealth of incredible acting, but do watch it for some amazing street dancing and a very likeable cast with a good storyline. I LOVED this movie and still do. Every time I see it, I'm transported from my office back to my carefree teenage years, where my biggest problems were what to wear when dancing and what music I was going to boogie to!

I'm popping and throwing waves as I write............

Disappearance (2002 TV Movie)
It was a great "TV" movie....!!!SPOILERS INCLUDED!!!!
30 April 2002
Warning: Spoilers
This one almost, ALMOST made it to my list of the great onez. The ending took all of the air out of my sails, however.

I can get with not knowing what the adversary looked like, not knowing it's origins...but I NEEDED to know the 5 W's.

Contrary to some of the other comments on this movie, I appreciated the acting skills displayed and loved the story...It reminded me of a supernatural version of Breakdown. The suspense was well played and the timing moved extremely well....the dumbest thing in the whole movie was when the son went down the mine shaft after the step mother...he couldn't help, and only held her up from getting out. Had the rope broken and he had fallen directly into the mouth of the beast..it would have served the dummy right. I know I'm not going down a hole with a growling something in it unless I HAVE to!

I wanted the 5 W's to be revealed after the family ended up working the gas station...I thought maybe the bird was going to fly over the ghost town, into the mine and reveal the origin or nature of the force, beast or thing raising all the ruckus.

More TV movies like this will do Cable good!!

The End-All of Rags-to-Riches Musicals
28 February 2002
After you've seen this, you might as well just avoid seeing any other movie regarding going form nothing to having it all in the music industry...some stories may be more dramatic, some more extreme...but this one pulls it all together lays it out like no other. I have seen this movie probably 20 times and will surely see it another 20. All of the ingredients are there. It's well made and yet, the roughness apparent in the script and acting at times seem to add to it's charm. Perfect imperfections, as Cee-Lo Green has named his new Album, is how I'd like to call it. When you watch the %H, you feel like you're back in the 60's and understand that the groups of that time simply had this fire inside that they had to get out of themselves....the problems came only after the fire was released: WHat does one do NOW?

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful movie...Hey Bobbie T. Lace us with another one of these!!!!
