Twin Towers (2003)
A moving tribute with some heart warming images
Restores your faith in the human race, a story that will move you. To the film makers and the family my thanks for allowing this to be told in a manner befitting the main characters, my only regret is the need to have to tell the story. May they rest in peace.
The Quiet Man (1952)
Good movie for a wet day
This is a good movie for a wet day and you're stuck indoors, it has dated well and to those who think it is awful and it is not Irish enough for you - Lighten Up. All the characters have their moments, but the part that steals the show for me is little Michaleen.
Shrek (2001)
Make sure you see this
If you want to put a smile on your face and that of your kids, see this movie. A well told story, excellent humour and a must for your library as you will see things you've missed in earlier viewings. Have fun!
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Why do we have to wait so long for the next one...
I had never shown any desire to read the book until all the fuss started to come out around October last year. So I grabbed a copy, started to read, and I feel lucky that having seen glimpses of trailers of the movie I was able to visualise the characters easier. The book was great, the movie is also great, and my only regret is that we have to wait to see the second book. My compliments to all who had something to do with the movie, a film such as this must have been one hell of an experience. To all the actors: "Bravo"
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)
Cute and Average
The feeling I get from this film, is the same as my 9 year old son.
"It was OK, but..." The formula is typical, no real surprises and the special effects were exactly that: special effects. They stood out too much as effects and the movie loses a lot because of this. The actors, particularly the kids, were well cast however and delivered their lines on cue etc. Am I the only one who feels that this was just a long advert for the merchandising industry. Just too slick for us.
The Usual Suspects (1995)
No interruptions please
This is a very very good movie, great plot, great acting and a twist that comes right out from left field. Make absolutely sure that if you haven't seen this before, take the phone off the hook, ignore the doorbell, settle down and watch this without interruption. And even better, watch it again so you can see all the things you miss.
All I can say is "Enjoy and pass the popcorn"
The Godfather (1972)
Simply the Best
This is probably the best movie ever made, well certainly the best that I have seen. One of the few movies that I find loses nothing in comparison to the book. Why can't they make more movies like this anymore? The acting is superb, the sets are great, the pace of the story is well set out, and the soundtrack is so right for the film.
Full marks to all who had anything to do with this creation.
Once Were Warriors (1994)
Raw Power
This movie has a raw power very seldom seen in movies today. The characters are very intense, real, believable and this is what truly sets this movie apart. I have known many Jakes and Beths in my time, thankfully their ways are no longer condoned and people are standing up to be counted. The haunting memory of that tree is a very strong visual image.
All in all: A movie with real people about real people.
