Broadchurch: Episode #2.3 (2015)
Season 2, Episode 3
2/10
Silly
17 May 2024
Broadchurch Series 2 Episode 3 falters significantly with its implausible courtroom drama, particularly the subplot alleging Ellie Miller had an affair with Alec Hardy. In real life, the introduction of such a baseless and sensational claim would be highly unlikely in a court of law, especially in the absence of substantial evidence.

In actual legal proceedings, introducing accusations of a personal nature, like an affair, would require a strong evidentiary basis and relevance to the case at hand. The defense's strategy in this episode seems to disregard these legal standards, instead opting for shock value. Such tactics in real life would likely be met with objections and could even be deemed inadmissible, as they could unfairly prejudice the jury without contributing any meaningful insight into the facts of the case.

Furthermore, real-life legal professionals are bound by ethical guidelines that prevent them from pursuing such spurious lines of questioning. The court scenes in this episode not only misrepresent how evidence and personal accusations are handled but also undermine the seriousness of legal protocols. This departure from realistic legal practice makes the drama feel superficial and undermines the show's credibility.

By focusing on sensational and irrelevant personal drama, the episode distracts from the more pertinent legal and emotional issues at the heart of the story. This misrepresentation of legal procedures and ethics not only diminishes the integrity of the narrative but also misinforms viewers about how actual court cases are conducted.

Poor man's Talented Mr Ripley
8 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Things we learned:

1) The police force today has a similar detecting ability and use of technology as the 60s. It's surprisingly easy to get away with multiple murders.

2) Big Stately homes don't have complicated lines of succession/inheritance.

3) When someone starts acting bizarre for no apparent reason, that's a big turn on.

4) Sucking bodily fluids from various orifices and surfaces is a really sound metaphor , great satire and not a substitute for character development.

5] films are not derivative if they interlace scenes with good cinematography and some arty music. It is does not mask an incredibly shallow and dull plotted movie.

6) the pay off can be obvious and on the nose as long as it does it to a quirky dance number naked a la American Psycho.

7) wasting such enormous talents on such a banal and empty script is not a crime.

Too derivative
15 December 2023
I'd like to preface this review by saying I like Korean Dramas. Sure, they are simplistic and unsophisticated, but the have heart, good acting and hark back to a more innocent time. They are pure and innocent escapist fun. This series is a step too far. The plot is hopelessly and poorly derivative. The writing is embarrassingly child like. The actors do the best with what they're given, except Lee jeong ha who acts like a mix between Forrest Gump and my name is Sam. The weird gurning and smiling into distance, combined with the cutesy run is irritating. All in all a big fail. The plot fails to excite interest and largely goes nowhere. No idea how this is rated so highly.

Did people see the trailer?
16 June 2023
I honestly will give most films a go. I love movies , even the bad ones, but this is an order of awfulness below that. I couldn't even finish the trailer. It made me a little bit sick in my mouth. Derivative doesn't even touch the sides of what this is. It's a stunningly bad vanity project bewilderingly funded by Netflix and clearly written by ChatGPT. If this is the future of entertainment...regurgitate, swallow, regurgitate, swallow and regurgitate onto the screen....then we might as well shut it all down now and go back to Puppets and folk stories. I think we need to let the corporate goons at Netflix that are green lighting this dirge that it is a completely unacceptable way to spend our hard earned money.

Achingly beautiful
31 January 2023
Heterosexual man here not interested in pushing any agenda. I mention the foregoing fact only to highlight some of the oddly angry reviews about this episode. It was simply a beautiful heart wrenching love story. It made me think of my wife and what kind of world it would be without her in it. That's about it. I wasn't expecting this episode and honestly I usually hanker after more escapist fun, but this was so undeniably beautiful and so profoundly moving, I was lost in it. I'm not saying I want very episode to be like this. I loved the action, sets and world building of the last episode and I would say on balance I want more of this, but this episode really affected me. How can I not applaud it?

Fan of Peele...not this

Not good. Really. Massively disappointed. Waited for this for a good while. Why people are promoting this is beyond me. It's worrying if this passes for inventive. It simply doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Die hard Halo fans obviously petitioned to have my last review removed. Solid acting, good effects, engaging story. Never played Halo on computer. Don't care that fans are offended by the show. If you don't like it , scroll on. Kind of sad so much energy is expended on hating this.

What were the writers smoking?
4 May 2022
Jonah acts in direct contradiction to his established character, a beloved character doesn't her happy ending and the most irritating character of the entire cast gets it all. Writers probably thought this was some effective socio-economic commentary. Why? Just awful end to a great show.

Seeing the bad reviews is just depressing
22 October 2021
It's hard to dislike this show. It has so many gifted and just plain funny actors. It's not gut busting humour, but rather a mellow guffaw. How you can muster enmity against a gloriously silly display like this is beyond me.
