Cocoon (1985)

Classic movie of all time!
15 December 2011
I recently learned that this film was directed by Ron Howard. Being a fan of his movies, Ron Howard tests his skill in making this sci-fictional film as realistic as possible. 'Cocoon' as the title of the film goes centers on a group of senior citizens who get unexpected vigor on swimming in their neighbor's pool. A superb cast and Steve Guttenberg of (three men and a baby)fame giving that comedy punch. It is a all time family entertainer.

The concept original and considering lot of sci-fiction movies emerged in the 80's , this film still stands for three things- oldies coming in form, exploring the unknown and last purpose in life.

An underrated romantic comedy!
21 October 2011
Warning: Spoilers
If you are expecting 'fireworks to fly' and 'romance in the air' moments in this movie, you will be disappointed. How do you know lets the audience follow the lives of two people George (played by Paul Rudd) and Lisa (played by Reese Witherspoon)who connect in the most unexpected way. George's character is toned down and given typical good guy, bad luck treatment. When you see Lisa, you can see shades of Legally Blonde's (elle) being spunky and confident in what she is good at - softball, but totally confused in love. Guess the director cant have enough of Lisa's lost puppy looks which seems exaggerated. Reese Whiterspoon being an A list actress doesn't need another clichéd role to reinforce her fans. Her emotional battle could have been explored more. (Jack Nicholson) who plays George's father Charles is underplayed and doesn't do much justice to the film. Owen Wilson (Matty) who plays Lisa's love interest fits in the shoes of being an egoistic baseballer who has tasted fame and loses sense in reality. Though the scenes which explicitly emphasize his lifestyle in a comical fashion offer nothing new.

The only doable character in this film is (Kathryn Hahn) who plays George's P.A whose role is crafted beautifully and adds to the suspense of the film.

Overall this film is an OK watch movie minus the expected rom-com ingredients.
