The Godfather of Action Movies
WOW, Just WOW... I have seen many action films in my younger days and never really felt the emotional and existential experience you get when watching masterpieces. But this movie ain´t no masterpiece, this movie is THE MASTERPIECE!
Nicolas Cage maybe the best actor of this decade really shows why he is the Marlon Brando of action films. Cage running around, freaking out and displaying pure emotional performance, give this man an academy! Maybe Cage best on screen performance since Ghost Ridder 2!
I have a PhD in in Police and Miltary Arts and read Sun Tzu several times and this movie really gets the realism and real life situations the police department go through. The whole hostage scenes reminds me of my duty days and I almost gets flashbacks. Really touching work of art from this director, beautiful!
Also the ending is so simple and smooth, maybe the best ending ever? Almost all Hollywood endings are too long and boring like Return of the Jedi or Lord of the Rings but 211 nails it! The pure emotion on Cage face and delivery in the last scene is touching, the message is also very important and teaches us about life and that is what 211 is all about, Sometimes we must take new pictures and make new memories just like Nicolas Cage.
Jussi i våra hjärtan (2011)
Beautiful music!
This documentary is okay but the music and soundtrack is amazing. Give the composer an academy or something. Really touching and moving. Reminded me of the music my old father used to play to me when i were young and innocent. Wow just wow!
Red Notice (2021)
Sir Dwayne is all i have to say. Absolutely mindblowing!
Wow just wow! I am a man full of film experience in my soul and I have always known the difficulty and toughness of writing and doing a good action movie. In my life time I have seen many titles as Die Hard and Mission Impossible fall short after ununique ideas and boring non action packed scenes. But Red notice absolutely delivers as one of the best action movies of all time!
How can you review this movie without not mentioning possibly the greatest action hero performance from Sir Dwayne The Rock Johnson! The fact that the whole cast learned swedish for this movie is incredible. I watched this movie while being on a vacation in sweden and I have a PhD in Swedish language and just wow. The incredible passion and dedication of learning an whole unknown language is mind blowing! Really should give Sir Dwayne an academy for this and maybe the James Bond role! Also what a beauty Gal Gadot is, remind me of my old fianceé back in the 70´s.
Really also the whole screenplay and director deserves a prize and raise for this unique story. Most action movies are the same old crap but this movie is entirely different in all aspects. All the plot twists in this movie is so good and jaw dropping. Literally got goosebumps for the ending and the song played. Reminded me and my boys in the good old days!
This movie is really good but somethings ain´t so good. One thing i really don´t like is the use of VFX. Why use that kind of things, just use practicals. Instead of using green screen you can just book a flight ticket to location and shoot some scenes, come on Netflix try a little bit more!
Also why is Gal Gadots character always ahead of the men? Never heard or seen something similar in real life. Not realistic.
Also the title of this movie is really magnificent.
Overall this movie is an absolute roller coaster of joy and brings out the child inside of you. That´s what I atleast noticed about this action masterpiece. Shakespeare had Hamlet, Rawson Marshall Thurber have Red Notice.
No Time to Die (2021)
No idea to watch this 007 disaster...
Well i have a PhD in filmaking from many years back and when I heard the new James Bond would finally drop I instantly got goosebumps. The thought of the classic Sir Sean Connery flashed right before my eyes, just like when i were kid... But bullocks this isn´t good
To start off with, what was the point of using IMAX cameras? The cameras are too big and clumsy and the quality isn't really that good to be honest. From my years in the field as a cameraman i have captured more quality videos with my old camera and i can tell you, it is much better. Get rid of IMAX right now!
What also really stood out were how bad portrayal of Bond this was. All respect to the acting of Daniel Craig as Bond but come on! James Bond should be a womanizer who atleast should get a woman in every 30 minutes or so Just like Sir Sean! Craigs bond ain´t gentleman. The whole fault should lie on the screenplay sadly. But still much respect to Craig for his portrayal a true man of the arts!
Also what is the point of the whole ending. First off, James Bond could easily survive those missiles. In the books he has survived everything. I bet Ian Fleming i somewhere and is cringing over this. Secondly, Why did Dr Swann and James Bond keep talking about the blue eyes? What's the point? Are they eye fanatics or are they secretly opticians or what? This movie needs a sequel just for the whole blue eyes plot.
Also why did they choose a Louis Armstrong song for the end credits? Louis is a legend but i think something like "Immigrant song" by Led Zeppelin would have matched the whole movie much better.
This movie lacks in many aspects. Myself with many PhDs in all of filmaking must say this movie lacks the spirit of Bond. But mostly because of these IMAX cameras, what a waste of money.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
My eyes and mind got a filmorgasm!
Wow just wow! I remember seeing the original 1977 Star Wars in the cinema back in the good old days, It was just pure art at the highest level. Many days havs passed since then and i never thought the spark of star wars would return but i can finally say it finally returned 2017!
As many of you know i have a Phd in screenplay from my good old days in Gibraltar. This movie compared with the likes of Super Mario Bros (1993) and Batman & Robin (1997) is one of the few pieces of film that don't have any plot holes or other useless crap. This movie is very logical and i can see how many hours were put down into the script. Really good choice of killing of Han Solo in episode seven. No offense to the legend Harrison Ford but the character of Han Solo is pointless and boring, I still to this day believe Han Solo is a ripoff of my great uncle Jeremy. The similarity is so close that i recently sued George Lucas himself for using my Uncle as an inspiration to solo... that man is a thief
I really love Daisy Ridley! Give her an academy for this one! Her performance is okay but what a beauty she is! She looks exactly like my old girlfriend from the 60's! Also Adam Driver reminds me of an younger version of myself. Ripped, stoic and brutally aggresive in an gentle and calming way. Really good casting.
Also really impressive how they actually built all the ships and send them to space. How did they get NASA to agree with this? I don't know how but it's amazing. The sound crew really deserves an Academy and a Noble Prize for capturing sound in space. That should be impossible but Disney actually captured sound in the vaccum... just wow.
Why do everyone hate on Luke Skywalkers portrayal? The whole portrayal is really touching my soul. I can relate so much to the whole arch. I recently also became an hermit and escaped to a distant place because of my great failures the recent year. I escaped from reality a whole year and only wrote film reviews in a dark cold place. But as Luke I returned as a true jedi and gave everyone around me hope. Very beautiful story for both me and Luke!
I have worked with many great composers back in the day but John Williams is one of the few i never really understood the hype of. The reason this movie is a nine and not a ten is because the music has no soul in it. Maybe the should have gone with another composer or musician like maybe Paul McCartney or Eminem.
Overall a masterpiece. Maybe the best Star Wars of all time? Why? Because this shows what dedication and passion can do in the film industry. The fact that this movie literally broke the rules of physiques is just groudnbreaking. Einstein smiles down on this movie surely from a galaxy far far away...
Batman & Robin (1997)
Hey Freeze! This movie is heat!
In all my years as an experienced and dedicated man in the film industry I never really understood the hype of superhero movies. I have seen so many films in this category fall short everytime because of the lack of creativity, for example the much overrated Avenger Endgame, Infinity War or The Dark Knight trilogy. But wow, wow and wow Batman & Robin really delivers and shows why this is the holy grail of superhero movies!
First off I have and PhD in the arts of theatre and drama and really enjoyed my years in Englands finest drama school. I remember very clearly how our tutor always tried to bring out the finest performance of ourselves and always used to give us the homework of watching this piece of art and watch closely how George Clooney and Arnold emit their finest theatrical acting and wow just how much me and my lads grew as actors just by watching those masterpiece performances. George Clooney is my Batman not Christian Bale and to be honest Clooney really deserved an oscar for this, he really saved the Batman franchise.
One of the few aspects many don't notice while watching this film is how philosophical this film is. Just the whole concept of teamwork between the bat squad really brought a tear to my eye. Really makes you realise how important friends is in life and not stupid girlfriends that destroy our lives! Also the whole idea of Robin using fake lips while kissing Poison Ivy symbolises how we men always wins over toxic girls in our lives and shows us that being a strong stoic man is the right choice. Robin and Marcus Aurelius have many parallels and this shows how Joel Schumacher is a philosophical genius.
The screenplay in this movie is on point. The human being that came up with all the ice puns really deserves an oscar and a comedy prize. I cried my heart out in laughter just hearing all the puns and one time i went all the way to the 4th base with a girl just by watching this on our first date. Sadly we never got married but oh boy we surely had a good time with this movie in the background if you know what i mean...
The costume design in this movie is magnifico. I have also an PhD in costume design that i took recently and the whole bat nipples idea is magnificent! The nipples symbolise how strong people really can be in hard times in life. Mr. Freeze costume is on point too! Very cold and icy costume just like my uncles old santa costume back in my younger days. Nostalgia at it´s finest!
I really don't have words to describe how much this movie means to me. This movie has sent me out of depression and other dark things several times and i bet the same for many others too. In the end this movie really shows us what it means to be a superhero and our duty for justice. Just put on your Batnipple suit and save the world just like our favorite dynamic duo: Batman & Robin!
Super Mario Bros. (1993)
Life in pure cinematic form!
How can I even explain this with raw, precise and genuine words. I have studied many years in the arts of screenplay and I am soon to get an PhD. After seeing this movie yesterday i just feel completely blown away in all aspects!
First off what an incredible casting, just seeing Bob Hoskins on the silver screen playing Mario was like a PTSD straight out of seventh heaven (in a good way) from my days as a child playing Super Mario on my NES. Just wow but I would rather really love to see Clooney or maybe Sean Connery as Mario to be honest. Also a very great choice to have a clean shaven Luigi, just like in the games!
Secondly I think this movie really show the power of feminism and equality! Very good scenes with strong independent women and less of the old school sexist and misogynistic scenes that were on every movie back in the day. This movie really is one of a kind in that aspect and made an example of how movies should be for all of us, no matter what gender you are!
Thirdly I think the screenplay is almost one of the most unique and realistic pieces of art out there in this business. You really just feel like you are one of the Mario bros when you just watch and hear their conversations, sometimes it just felt so real that I almost got tears of joy when seeing how accurate their brother relation is. I once had a brother and he were excactly like Luigi and behaved like him. Just seeing their daily life reminded me of me and my brother!
Well to be fair this movie as really great pieces in all aspects such as cinematography, sound, acting, screenplay etc. But what makes this movie fall so short in the end is the usage of CGI. Oh my god how terrible the CGI is for the whole industry. Pure movies should not have any CGI and just show pure craftmanship. Well i can give it to them that their CGI was much better and artistic than many other movies from the same decade as The Matrix, Forrest Gump, The phantom Menace etc...
Overall a really wonderful constructed movie with many life lessons and meanings. In all my years at Oxford and many other univeristies around the world i have studied all the aspects of filmmaking and it makes me so emotional and joyful when i watch this masterpiece. Sometimes I wonder if this is what William Shakespeare thought of when he would describe an ideal play to his friends. Well guess we will never know but we can always believe, just like the Mario Brothers!
