American Horror Stories: Aura (2022)
Surprisingly Artistic
This episode was styled very well. It played with lighting in a very interesting way and made all the shots have a particular ambience that isn't usually used in horror. It used this ambience to help tell the story quickly, showing the audience what the mood is instead of having the writing or the acting tell us directly. I think this stylistic choice also helped subvert the scary ghost trope adding much needed depth a typical haunting story.
In terms of the writing, I enjoyed the quick character development and how the story wraps up in the end is very satisfying! American Horror Stories is feeling more and more like classic Twilight Zone episodes as the show goes on, which has been difficult for other shows to achieve.
Young & Hungry: Young & Munchies (2015)
Possibly the best episode of TV history.
On this website there are so many dark and complicated TV series that get good ratings because for some reason people think that means it's a good show. This episode proves that formulas exist for a reason. The episode is so perfectly formulaic that it reminds me why formulas exist in the first place. Not everything has to be a deconstruction or a post-modern commentary to be celebrated. Everybody in this episode hits their marks perfectly and I laughed out loud more times than I care to admit. Such an amazing episode. If you can't see that a small part of your heart has died.
Pretty Smart (2021)
The perfect amount of cheese
Please do not cancel this show Netflix !! Just because it's cheesy doesn't mean it's bad. Not everything has to be complicated and dark, there is so much to explore on the lighter side of things. I can't wait for more seasons!
