I watched this movie with an open mind since I was not really familiar with Kaurismäki´s work. This movie\play was a real treat! It was a refreshing change from the massproduced movies churned out mainly for the vegetablebrained couchpotatoes. The lighting was absolutely breathtaking and the simple lines added to Kaurismäki´s simple but beautiful work. A cool classy act! Worth a look with an open mind.

This is a 'OH MY GOD, I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS' movie. I have only praise for this massive undertaking. Those rare people who have found fault in this movie have had to really look for it. Will have to go to the cinema a few more times while it's still running. Thank goodness for movies like this.........a real gem.

The athmosphere in this film is created by using rich textures and suggestions of scent. It is carried to the audience by heart wrenching music, which touches all senses, enabling the viewer to fill their soul with unearthly beauty. In the wealth of sound and scenes, which are full of symbolism, words become unnecessary, the actors secondary and the direction, supreme. Pure theatre.
