Waste of time
30 October 2005
Warning: Spoilers
No wonder Pamela Springsteen gave up acting to become a full-time photographer; it's a much better idea to have her behind a camera than in front of one. While this movie is not without its interesting elements (mullets from hell, etc.), it is outweighed by flaws. For one thing, Angela, the murderous counselor, appears to be about the same age as the campers. Having an older, more threatening camp director would have done a lot for the film. And then you have the murder scenes. The budget was apparently too low to execute most of them properly (no pun intended), although drowning someone in an outhouse toilet is certainly original. But overall, there are a ton of movies out there that are scarier/more fun to spend an hour and a half of your life watching.

Elvis (2005)

How did this get on the air?
9 May 2005
This movie is one long cliché. Everyone knows the story by now, as it's been told waaaaay too many times. I'm a huge fan of Elvis (the singer, not the movie) and I think the actors try real hard in this film, but the writing is so ridiculous they don't have a lot to work with. I don't know how many times something was said or done in this movie that made me go "Yeah, right!". Most TV movies, especially ones that try to tell a true story, are woefully bad, and this one will have you squirming and groaning, right down to the bad lip-synching of real Elvis studio recordings. This film may be of some use if you're new to the planet and have never heard of Elvis Presley before.

The Dukes of Hazzard (1979–1985)
Pure Magic
10 January 2005
It is rare to find a television series with a cast that worked as well as this one. This is a show that just pulled you in and before too long, you forgot they were actors. Now that's great casting, directing and acting. Sure, it's not highbrow, but the fans really loved these characters. The fifth season with the replacement "Dukes", Coy and Vance, is an exception, but I try not to badmouth them too much. They were hired to do a job and they did it as well as they could, so it's not their fault. People were just so very, very attached to the original characters. This show will always be a classic and hold a special place in the hearts and memories of millions of fans.

Big Brother (II) (2000– )
This show gets better every season!
29 August 2004
This is a show that has really grown and developed with time. Wow, season 5 is sooooooo good. First, it is revealed to two of the houseguests that they share the same father. Then one of the guests, who has an identical twin, is offered the chance to play a game switching off with her sister and if they can fool all the others for a length of time that they are one and the same, both get to stay on as contestants. They pull it off. With the two of them in the house, the worst and most competitive parts of their personalities are magnified, making most observers brand them as "evil", especially after Adria, the twin initially in the house, breaks a promise she made with Will that neither of them would ever vote the other out. Then Adria casts the deciding vote to evict Will, and Adria pays the price when her sister, Natalie, is ousted by the other houseguests unanimously, leaving her with only one friend in the house, Michael, who was on the eviction block along with her twin.

Part game show, part soap opera. Big Brother is here to stay!

Destined to be a classic.
27 June 2004
If you want to see a true classic in its first run, then you must see F9/11. Wow. No film has ever moved me the way this one did. I thought the shots of Bush, Rice, Powell and Cheney getting their hair and makeup done (not to mention Paul Wolfowitz repeatedly putting a comb in his mouth) were an ingenious prelude to what was to follow. That there is actually existing footage of this stuff is stupefying. Nothing in the film can be easily discredited. It's all real footage of the people involved just "doing what they do", including Michael Moore (who is on screen for maybe 10 minutes). I think a lot of the people commenting on this film could not possibly have seen it yet, although I think pretty much everyone will see it eventually, whether they admit it or not. And they should. It will change you; I know it has changed me. Thank you, Michael Moore, for your courage. And thank God for your talent and genius.

Wonderland (2003)

One fantastic movie!
17 February 2004
I didn't expect Val Kilmer to make a convincing John Holmes, but I found myself forgetting that it wasn't the porn legend himself. In fact, the entire cast turned in amazing performances in this vastly under-rated movie.

As some have mentioned earlier, seek out the two-disc set and watch the "Wadd" documentary first; it will give you a lot of background on the story which will be helpful in appreciating the movie.

Some people seem unhappy about the LAPD crime scene video being included on the DVD. There are a number of reasons that it might have been included, one of which is that John Holmes' trial for the murders was the first ever in the United States where such footage was used by the prosecution. If you don't want to see it, it's easy to avoid; it's clearly identified as "LAPD Crime Scene Footage" on the menu!

Astonishingly bad!
27 January 2003
Wow! I just saw this and couldn't believe how terrible it was! Every joke fell flat...real flat. I couldn't help but feel sympathy for every actor stuck in this stunningly misguided movie. And Elvira, what happened to you? The lighting showed no mercy in accentuating every line and crinkle. This movie has absolutely nothing going for it.

Simply amazing.
15 January 2003
This is one of the best films I have seen in many years. I will not go into the story as there are many other comments here that do. I will simply say that it was completely enthralling from beginning to end, and it hard to imagine any adult who appreciates a truly great film not feeling the same. 10 out of 10.

Great film!
4 November 2002
Auto Focus is a great film. The only shortcoming is does not give you enough background on Bob Crane's life before his starring role on "Hogan's Heroes". But Greg Kinnear plays him well, and Willem Dafoe as the sleazy opportunist John Carpenter is fantastic as he goes from creepy to desperate and scary. I wouldn't say that this film's for everyone, but it's well done, and there isn't another one like it that I've seen.

Swept Away (2002)

Madonna's "acting" is still a joke!
15 October 2002
No doubt, when Madonna and Guy Ritchie married, it was because they both thought it would help their movie careers. If you've been through the ordeal of watching "Swept Away," then you know at that level it was a match made in hell. After nearly 20 years of trying to become a respected actress (or "octress" as she might have pronounced it in "The Next Best Thing"), she still can't get out of herself long enough to turn in a performance that anyone with taste could even call decent. And that's the thing that makes people dislike her so much on the screen: that gut feeling that her ego is so inflated that it prevents her from being able to just let go and connect with her audience. If there's any justice in this universe, she just blew her last chance.

The worst
10 July 2002
This movie just couldn't be any worse. Madonna fakes a British accent (VERY badly) part of the time, even though the character isn't British. What's up with that? Madonna has proven herself to be one of the worst actresses (and I use that term very loosely) of all time. The whole concept of this film, as well as the "acting," is soooo bad, I actually felt embarrassed for everyone involved. Oh yeah, the music is horrible, too. Definitely not worth your time. Everything about it stinks. 0 out of 10.

Wonder Woman (1975–1979)
One of television's greatest classics
8 June 2002
I never watched "Wonder Woman" when it originally aired because I didn't think I would enjoy it. Wow, was I ever wrong. It is non-stop fun and very well done. Sure, it can be ridiculous at times, but that's an asset as it just wouldn't be the same otherwise. Lynda Carter is PERFECT in the role. Unlike many people, I think the "modern" episodes from the last two seasons are slightly better than the ones set during World War II (although those are excellent as well). Trust me, folks, this show will go down as an all-time television classic and will never be forgotten.

Fun show!
15 May 2002
This was a fun show that deserved to be more popular. Not as magical as "Bewitched" or "I Dream of Jeannie," and not as silly as "The Flying Nun," Sally Field played a girl with ESP...think "Nanny and the Professor". I would love to see this again.

Dynasty (1981–1989)
The Best-Ever Nighttime Soap
29 April 2002
The best nighttime "soap" ever. It is hard to compare this to "Dallas," which seems like a poor cousin in comparison, at least to me. But as many have already noted, the show's glory days were numbered. I think one of the turning points came when Pamela Sue Martin, who was great as Fallon, was replaced by the jowly Emma Samms, who was absolutely terrible as she tried to hide a British accent. This was also around the time when the whole "Colbys" storyline was introduced in preparation for the spinoff, and we all know that it deserved its tragic fate. The first four seasons or so were great fun to watch; do yourself a favor and avoid the later episodes.

Not horrible, but I can't recommend it
4 March 2002
I went to see this film expecting the worst. It wasn't, but it sure wasn't good. The vampires were so un-scary, I laughed out loud several times. And this movie betrays vampire legend by showing Lestat on a large TV screen, when everybody knows that you can't photograph a vampire! Thankfully, after one big weekend at the box office, word got around that this film is a colossal waste of time. The actors were pretty decent, I thought, but that's about it.

Vanilla Sky (2001)
Why should I care?
17 January 2002
Many have commented that "Vanilla Sky" is a boring, confusing film. I couldn't care enough to classify it as either. It's not about any flavor of sky, vanilla or otherwise. How can anyone be interested in ANY movie in which all the characters are such horrible, self-absorbed people? Why would we even be remotely concerned that they might meet a terrible fate? As a footnote, am I the only one who thinks that Tom Cruise looks mildly retarded?

Petticoat Junction (1963–1970)
A Classic '60s Sitcom
1 November 2001
"Petticoat Junction" was a great, heart-felt show that would stand alongside "The Andy Griffith Show" in all-time popularity, if only some mucky-muck at Viacom (the distributor of the rerun package) hadn't, in the early 1970's, decided to exclude the first two seasons from their syndication package. Not only were those some of the funniest and most genuine episodes of the entire series, but eliminating them from public memory cut out nearly half of star Bea Benaderet's time on the show (she died of lung cancer shortly after the start of the 1968-69 season). If you ever get a chance to view the first two (black & white) seasons of this series, do so...you will see what I mean.

A must-see classic
26 October 2001
American Graffiti is one of the most touching films I have ever seen. It is best seen on video or dvd because I feel it is best when seen without interruptions or distractions. Every actor in the film is believable and does an incredible job of bringing their character to life. And when Harrison Ford looks into the camera and tips his hat from the back...hot!
