End of the Line (2024– )

Unexpectedly funny mini series, really enjoyable
3 February 2024
It is developed as a tv show with audience, and that was a bit bothering at the beginning, but then it became better, cause that format allows the actors to play with the public, repeat lines they forget, bring a more natural look, it's like we see the "making of" too.

Then, we have the main characters that are very strong, but also a lot of other types of people in the backgorund. Lines are very funny, witty, playing on words, lots of hints about life in Brazil. The actors are so full of passion, very energetic and that gives a good rhythm to the whole watching experience. Looking at these people dealing with everyday problems we get an image of how bad things go in the economy, but also a glimpse of hope, as the sense of humor helps them get over everything.

The set is a bit small, but there is an alternation between the bus station and the family home. So it is quite enjoyable, despite its theatre static set. A good time to forget stress at the end of the day, this is what "the enf of line" manages to achieve.

Firefly Lane (2021–2023)

highly recommended lovely series
20 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Very enjoyable series, mainly due to the two actresses that are doing a great job. It's like an old story about friendship where we are delighted to follow the evolution of their relationship, from teenagers to theirs 40s. What makes it exciting it's the jumping from one moment in time to another, as there are like three main periods ( teens time, career beginning and the time when one has a teenage daughter, while the other just got pregnant), plus other secondary threads. This time traveling is keeping us interested in the story, the same way the emotions at each stage keep us attached to the lovely and very well built characters.

Very entertaining and thought provoking, definitely worth watching
17 July 2023
This is mostly a comedy, delightful to watch, but one can't stop thinking of the deeper meanings in it, a main theme being the greed that's driving people, instead of nobler inclinations. Just wait to see this rich man ready to steal everything from his poor family, and it's not a spoiler, cause there are surprises all along, which makes it so engaging, other than some actors' brilliant acting. Another thing worth mentioning is the choice of tones for the depiction of the two contrasting worlds, the fancy city and the forgotten village. There are some actors that really stand out, I'll let you notice them, I also liked seeing Ana Martin in a movie, since I was used to her in telenovelas.

Family Secrets (2022– )

Wonderful series
9 February 2023
This is one of the best miniseries I've seen lately, it manages brilliantly to keep the interest, the suspense, there's a surprise at every corner. Family and couples, all intertwined in an entertaining way.

Mostly a comedy, but with lots of the drama that comes always with the family theme; then we have almost a thriller at times, a sense of danger, but there's constantly a good feeling about the characters and their struggles, a hope that it will all be fine.

And that wedding...it seems that it will never happen, all kind of elements show up and interrupt, like a neverending story....there's something strange in the air, besides love.

hypnotic, just like those snakes...
9 February 2023
Just started this series, so I don't know how it will end, but I like the atmosphere, the sense of magic, the delightful images and the charm of the lead actors. I can see why it's too slow for some, and a bit cryptic, but it's this legend style that makes it appealing, actually. Like a bedtime story.

That's all I wanted to say, but it looks that a review has to be longer, that's not a good idea, cause let's face it, how many of us have the time to read all these long reviews?

But let's see, I can add that some things shoud' ve been worked out better: that mysterious character that is supposed to be scary, that is rather funny, so it failed in creating the necessary threat.

Fantastic movie!

So funny, but also a critique of the society, a metaphor of the need to change the life style, urging us to find joy and meaning in what we do; plus, the actor are amazing and they manage to build unforgettable characters.

Beauty, irony, fun and a heartfelt movie
15 January 2020
This is a movie that will bring you great delight, if you have a bit of patience; each scene is full of meaning, metaphors, symbols, and overwhelming beauty. Beauty of a country field or of an empty city, of the passers-by who seem on a catwalk, or of the nostalgic music. But it's not just pleasure, it's also fun and troubling at the same time, warning about the absurd taking over in all societies, about the disconnection in the middle of the crowd, about the fate of the artist who is left aside. There is hope though, as long as there are still people who care and who don't give up, like the director himself, faithful to his artistic choices, despite the pressure to take sides. The soul untamed by rules, like the angel chased by police in one scene. Oh, and the irony is everywhere, maybe at its best when Gael's character steps in. Pure joy of watching a movie with a heart. Definitely for authentic cinema lovers.

Delightful to watch, full of funny moments and tenderness
20 January 2019
This is a lovely "telenovela", with a lot of great characters, well played by amazing actors, including the fantastic little girl whose part is at the center of the story. Many subplots or rather distinct stories going on, in a charming neighborhood, touching many themes, ranging from family and modern couples to environment, business models, solidarity and women's career choices. The emotionally intense scenes or the funny ones will give you a good time, quite relaxing and entertaining.
