Tasmanian Devils (2013)
You've gotta Love B-Grade Low Budget films & Lousy Australian accents.
I knew what sort of a film I was in for the moment I saw the CGI of the helicopter flying over what looks strangely looks like Canada, not Tasmania? LOW BUDGET B-GRADE?? My favorite!! My low budget suspicions were confirmed when I heard the first Australian accents.
It was at the 7 minute mark when I heard the Aussie accent. Awesome!! The tourists are briefed on the "Tasmanian Devil" by Danica McKellar. (That's Winnie Cooper of The Wonder Years..) The Australian teenage tourist girl (Julia Sarah Stone) sounds like she just stepped off the 1986 Crocodile Dundee film set and watched a lot of Crocodile Hunter episodes. Only to be topped off with Ranger Danz entry and his Aussie accent, yikes!! That was funny.. Thank-you for the laughs.. This film is turning into a comedy. Excellent, no harm in that..
If you are looking for a well made film with a crafted story of importance, you'll be disappointed. This is a low budget piece of B-Grade garbage. Most film makers would find that insulting, but these are the sort of films I love to watch. I was entertained for the evening, so Thank-you for your B-Grade film. Continuing on with my hunt for Low Budget B-Grade films..
Suburban Sasquatch (2004)
This film is so funny!!
This film is so funny. You will laugh at this film, no doubt.
The acting is terrible, the sound is lousy and the special effects - Holly crap..
You really need to make an effort to see this film. You have to see it to believe it. You will be entertained!
This is 1 hour and 39 minutes of pure funny film making.
Until now, it has been reported 'Plan 9 From Outer Space' by Ed Wood was the worst film ever made. Not anymore! The worst film ever made is now Officially 'Suburban Sasquatch' by Dave Wascavage.
The full feature film can be found for free online on Youtube. Listed under Horror films.
Have fun watching B-Grade films..

Prisoner (1979)
Prisoner scared me as a kid, but now I'm addicted to it..
I must admit, Prisoner scared me as a kid when it was on Channel 10 at 8:30pm. I watch it now, and it's quite funny to watch.
I am very thankful that ALL 692 episodes have been put on DVD. So far I am up to episode 320 and I'm loving it. Sets that shake when a character gets roughed up against the brick walls of Wentworth. It is just classic. Locks on security doors that probably don't work, but characters spend time making noise with the keys.
Lovable characters, such as Bea Smith, Old Lizzie, Sandy Edwards, Meg Jackson/Morrison, Vera Bennett, Steve Falkner, Smart, Jim Fletcher, and many many others.
Based on what I have seen so far, Vera Bennett and The Freak Furgesson would not have played well together. They really are two very different types of characters who would have clashed at all levels. Vera may have been hard towards the prisoners, but she was brutally honest. As for the Freak, as the most bent officer so far, she causes a lot of the problems faced by Wentworth. Vera would not have stood for it.
It is good to see the camera work and lighting has improved over the years, in some scenes the lighting is actually quite bad. Sometimes it is actually hard to see what is going on in the dark scenes.
From time to time some of the same actors re-appear as different characters, but thats a soap opera for you.
If you have not had a chance to watch Prisoner yet, give it a shot. As badly made as it is, it is also addictive to watch. I plan on watching all episodes of Prisoner. I recommend you give it a shot too.
Disappearance (2002)
Shame, it was off to a good start..
I have to admit, the main reason I watched the film was to see the performance by Jeremy Kewley. A.K.A "Tony Timms", the nosey reporter of Mt. Thomas in Blue Heelers. Turns out he did not play a big part of the film.
As for the film, the other comments sum it up well. It was off to a good start for a TV movie. The ending was confusing, but I am not going to lose any sleep over it.
There are a lot of movies out there to watch, if you only have limited time, watch a different movie instead of this one.
Ash..
Halloween (1978)
The last comment raises some good points..
The last comment mentioned brought up a good point regarding the low budget side of Halloween. How is it that the low budget horror films of the 70s and 80s have had more success over time than the big budget Hollywood horrors of the 90s? All of the successful films of the 70s and 80s were made not only on low budgets, but also were one of the film makers first few films they made. Not only Halloween, but also Texas Chainsaw massacre, and Friday 13th. I'm sure there are more. Is it possible these films were successful because the film makers were in it to make films and not money? Why are todays horror movies from major Hollywood studios lousy? I do not know the exact answer, and there are probably different reasons for it. I recommend watching low budget horror movies made by no name small production companies that recruit actors that are not known in Hollywood. Thats where I look for good horror films.
Air Strike (2003)
95 minutes of rubbish.
I rented this DVD for $1 as a weekly, and I still feel ripped off. I cannot imagine the production company made a profit from this film? I hope DEJ productions make a better film next time.
Also, it looks bad when they use poor computer animation for some of their helicopter scenes.
There seemed to be a lacking of logic in the way the soldiers and pilots carried out their missions. Poor editing too, probably just rushed. But what can I expect for $1.
You may be able to get a refund on your money, but that is 95 minutes of your life you will never see again.
Swimming Pool - Der Tod feiert mit (2001)
I enjoyed some of the dark, fast paced visual effects.
I enjoyed some of the dark, fast paced visual effects. I thought the scenes were well lit to help create the right sort of mood.
The blood used in the film could have been made a little better. For some good movie blood, consult the autobiography of Bruce Cambell. It goes into detail on how to make good movie blood and how to test if it has the right look.
Another nice break from the other horror movies out there was the fact that it consisted of non American actors. That was a nice change, I would like to see more of it in the future. It was especially a nice change to see yet another Aussie break free from the Aussie soaps into the international market of film making.
Sorority Boys (2002)
It is my sort of humour..
I thought it was a funny film. Mind you I had heard bad reviews about the film before I saw it, so in the end I was not expecting much in return. Expecting very little from the film, I actually ended up enjoying simply because I got more entertainment value out of it than expected. Good for a laugh, although I would not purchase the film, just rent it.
Blue Murder (1995)
A great realistic Aussie TV mini series..
Well I had to order it especially from Melbourne to find a copy of it on DVD, but I finally recieved it. I heard about it playing on TV in Victoria but not in NSW for a a long time after it was made. But apparently it finally aired in NSW.
Anyway I am from Melbourne and from what I understand about what police have been doing in the past, it is very realistic. It is a good insight to what Australian law enforcement is like and has been like throughout its history.
Some people may find the mini series a little on the violent side, I liked it for the realism of it and the bluntnes of it. I hope to see more television or feature films like it again in the future. I believe Australia has a bright future in tv and film making. I just hope they keep on pushing more projects overseas, as I'm getting sick of the Hollywood movies with little plot.
Blue Heelers (1994)
I miss the show a lot..
I was born and raised in Melbourne. Only recently have I moved to the US to get an education and find work. One thing I have missed as a result of moving away is Blue Heelers. I have heard rumours that it is playing on some US Cable companies, but I do not know which ones and where. Anyway if anyone stumbles across the television show, just sit down, have a beer and relax while you watch it. I think it is a little off the realistic track when it comes to police violence, corruption, etc. But it does cover a lot of the boring mundane tasks that police often have to put up with, such as cold burgs, etc. Or perhaps I just miss it because it is Australian??
