Oh dear....way too 'Hollywood'
27 January 2024
So gutted this is so poor. Really looking forward to a gritty BoB / Pacific follow up and this not that. At all. This is an overly glamoured/pretty/shallow take on a brutal subject matter.

Poor sound , terrible cgi, awful script, bad casting , everything just feels off. Scenes all feel like they were shot in low budget studio somewhere where the lighting and audio guys took the day off.

It needs a hefty coating of film grain or something to try and dial the Hollywood-ness out of it.

Having just watched the making of Oppenheimer and seeing the lengths Christopher Nolan went to to film 'in camera' and be accurate to the source material available I think it's time Spielberg and Hanks hang up their directing gloves. Embarrassing tbh.

Beautiful
13 January 2024
Didn't know what to expect going into this, I love great movies, thoughtful movies, realistic movies, movies with something that stays with you, effects you emotionally or just takes you away to a different place, movies where the characters are the depth, and not the cgi.

This was all of that and more, I feel I know these people, I felt like I was these people, I felt everything they felt. The ending was perfect and emotional and everything it needed to be. No Hollywood endings here. Just real life and the highs and lows of love and friends.

Superbly shot, superbly acted, superbly directed and superbly written. This was a 2023 top 3 for me and will stay with me.

Not normally my thing but.......
4 November 2023
Not sure why I decided to watch this, I'm normally a sci fi guy, maybe it's because it was on Apple so knew quality would be up there, maybe I though it had a science fi edge from the 'testing' , or maybe I just fancied something different.

Well I got all of that and more. Jessie Buckley absolutely delivered a superb, real and emotional performance....i could feel every tug on heartstrings I didn't know I had anymore. Great performances from all 3 leads, but Jessie....just wow, I really hope this launches her career to bigger things, she deserves it after that.

Oh and the music was superb.....well done production team.

I Like the Movie
2 October 2023
Ok so I got caught up in it when it happened. I invested and made no money, about £20....but the ride was phenomenal

So seeing it all played out again, the memes, the gifs, the diamonds and the rockets....the film like it was part of my life. I was involved. It felt like my story. And that's why I completely connected and loved its re-telling of a fascinating time.

If you weren't involved I guess it may be difficult to get invested. If you were, just go and see it. It will bring back all the memories of lockdown and what little excitement we had.

Loved the music, despite what others have said, it absolutely fits the Reddit vibe and gangster nature of it all.

Superb.

New respect for Jenna Coleman
28 September 2023
Tbh I wasn't expecting g much from this, find a lot of Prime content overly cheesy recently ( and over American...sorry) but I got dragged in by Jenna's performance. Not really a big fan, think I saw her in Dr Who a couple of times and that was it. Thought she was genuinely fantastic in this, absolutely carried the whole show.

Ok it's not ground breaking in its story, but there were enough twist and turns to keep the tension up and the games people play I thought was well done. I thought I had spotted a couple of large plot holes, and was all smug about it, until they were firmly closed off in the final episode....more credit than I had initially given it.

I thought the narration was a nice touch and again delivered very well, adding a calm stone cold view of everything. The very last scene was a great example with the ice cold calmness just starting to slip. Well done.

Superb second season
19 September 2023
Ok. Need to get out of the way I've not read the book/s? So I'm coming at this from a SciFi fan and nothing more, no bagage, no unrealistic expectations of screenplay vs book etc

Season 1 was good. Season 2 is a whole new level. Some fantastic new characters (and actors) that brought a bit of levity to all the political weightiness and wrangling. I seemed to understand what was going on a bit better than S1, not sure if that's as I'm invested in the world now or it was just better told. But oh my this is top tier SciFi.

Absolutely incredible Dolby Vision and Atmos presentation, on a big OLED this is demo worthy. Easily the best thing I've seen my screen pump out, and the Atmos sound track had the room alive. Well done editors and production teams...this is benchmark stuff.

This is going to surpass GoT for me if it keeps on like this....keep the seasons coming!

We unexpectedly enjoyed this
6 September 2023
There it on one night as a bit of filler and we're glued to it until the finale.

Evin Ahmad (New to us) absolutely smashed it, what a great actress, completely stole the show. OK so it's not the most realistic thing you'll ever watch, but beautiful visuals and photography bursting with colour ( OLED showpiece at times) great sound ( Atmos ) and Evin's performance completely won us over.

The fight scenes worked well, not overly long and gritty enough to be wince inducing. Yes she gets battered, a lot, but it's not meant to be a serious crime drama. It's a great bit of entertainment that I'll be there day 1 of there is a second season.

It will assume you are an idiot
19 August 2023
Maybe it's just me, but as soon as a show decides to treat me like an idiot to make ridiculous plot lines work I'm out.

1st episode showed a little promise so I stuck with it. Half way through episode 2 and I had to nope out. First family member to be restrained , with handcuffs, around a kitchen table leg? But just so we don't all go 'just lift the table up' they cover it off with a , we nailed it to the floor. Oh really. You did did you. You nailed round table legs to the floor?. Well done . And when did you do that in the short time you were in the house with all the family? And you just happened to have nails and a hammer (that we never saw). Come on.....don't treat us like idiots to make your thin plot work.

Poor poor poor and clearly aimed at a very low bar of entertainment despite trying to appear edgy. It's not. It's cheesy and cheap.

Ouch....I've played games with better stories and visuals than this
23 June 2023
If the budget was as low as it must have been to make this they really shouldn't have bothered. The sets are laughably bad , maybe this will become a cult classic for how poor it is, there's no other redemption for it I'm afraid.

Poor acting , poor writing , poor cgi, poor sets etc etc I can't think of anything else in recent years with such laughably low production values as this. It's like a really bad cliched low budget 70s series with cgi that is worse than pretty much any space based game you may have played.

My time is more valuable to me than wasting any more of it on this.

If you like Sci-Fi and space this is not what you are looking for.

Can't bear any more
5 April 2023
Managed to stick it for 4 episodes as it looked intriguing and the reviews on here calouldnt be wrong....could they?

I must have watched a different show to the '10s' on here, It's a 5 for me at the absolute best, and that's probably generous.

For a show that is supposed to be grounded in reality it treats the viewer as a dumb child. I cannot bear being treated as stupid by shows like this, expecting us not to question all the ridiculous goings on , plot holes, cheesy dialog, lazy writing and terrible sets.

Oh look a cabin right next to the plane crash. How convenient . Oh it's all dusty and decayed. Next shot , wow that cabin sure cleaned up nice, all the interior wood looks like new now. Oh and everyone has endless supplies of nice crisp clean clothes. And beds. And pillows. And are master hunters. And flight recorder destroyers, and Axe conjurers. The list just goes on.

I can suspend belief when a show doesn't attempt to be grounded in reality , but when it is , don't treat us like mugs with lazy, unresearched writing and plots.

I mean why was that girl trying to scrub off a deep engraving in the wooden floor with a cloth??? It's comical how bad some of this is .

Oh and some random blobs of wax on the floor are supposed to make a symbol ? Loool I could have connected those dots into any shape you wanted ....absolutely dumb writing that treats the viewer as a fool.

So disappointed.

Superb performances from both leads
7 January 2023
What a fantastic eedormamcenfrom both leads. JL had always been Katness for me , but this wasn't that girl. This was a mesmerising mature performance from a strong woman that I did not see coming. Jennifer has all grown up and knocked it out of the park. Stripped back, no makeup , it felt authentic and real and stayed with me long after the credits rolled.

Likewise Brian, have never come across him before, but wow.....another believable authentic performance that just worked. I felt their pain. I felt their friendship grow. I want to watch it again.

A challenging subject that hit all the right notes, beautifully shot and convincing portrayed by two actors at the top of their game.

Hope the coffee kicks in
30 December 2022
Came into this completely blind, thought it was just going to be a spooky 'Bermuda triangle' ship story. How wrong I was....epic sci-fi woven into an almost period drama with superb acting, cinematography and a plot that has you questioning your own reality!

I had no idea this was by the Dark creators, a series I started and never finished ( despite really enjoying it, not sure what went on there but I'll be going back to that immediately.

A special mention has to go to the sound/music/audio. I have a full Dolby Atmos setup that really is tragically under utilised by so much stuff. But this....wow...my room was alive , the staging was phenomenal and one of the best Atmos soundtracks I've ever had the pleasure of. Awesome job Audio team!

Not sure who the target audience is for this
28 December 2022
But it's clearly not me ( or anyone who wants to watch a spy show that has any sort of credibility or intelligence)

Couldn't make it past episode 2....unbelievable characters, ridiculous security portrayal , it just made me angry on how stupid they treat the viewer. Was 'any' research done for this show at all? It feels like a secondary school child's view of the 'spy world' that was written for a homework assignment.

Netflix are starting to shovel a lot of this dumbed down trash recently, far better off with some of the other streamers 'less is more' approach that delivers quality series ( AppleTV says hi).

Spy pen .... Dont need to say anymore really .

Didn't see this coming.....
12 December 2022
No real fanfare , so so title and a generic thumbnail on Prime made me skip past it several times. Took a chance one evening and slapped it on expecting to bail after an episode or 2.

How wrong I was. This ticked every box for me, absolutely superb. The Spec Ops stuff looked totally believable and well researched (to me) , weapon handling, movement felt like a lot of work had gone into it to do it right. Details like this , if they don't look real , are a huge turn off for me, but I was hooked. An episode a night for a week , all decent length, let the story and characters grow. As violent as it is at times, there is a heart to it that CP delivers. You can feel his pain and suffering....absolutely top notch.

Tldr Thought it would be trash.

It was one of the best shows I've watched this year .

Need to play come COD now.......

Roll on season 4
11 September 2022
So happy we have another season to look forward to...there is so much story and character here and I feel I've watched the kids actually grow up over the first 3 seasons. Some genuinely laugh out loud moments but it is more than that, so much more. If you don't have kids or are not married you may not get it, if you do it will tug at the heartstrings as you ride the highs and lows of family life ( and there are a lot of lows) and as things start to come undone you can genuinely feel the pain. Don't expect a comedy. Expect a beautifully realised look at modern family life.

Every single actor here is knocking it out of the park, yes Martin does Martin, but that's what we love about him. Daisy is sublime as she deals with the change, perfectly depicting that knife edge of emotions.

Keep the seasons coming.

Just stunning
9 November 2020
Who'd have thought chess would make such a breathtaking series . Best series of 2020 no contest . I'm not an emotional guy , but that last episode had me , felt like I'd been on a journey with Beth . I don't need to repeat what everyone else has already said , everything about this show it's absolutely first class and Anya Taylor-Joy ....just wow .
