Kalifornia (1993)
Don't waste your time
The only redeeming factor to this movie is Michelle Forbes who I immediately recognized that played Ensign Ro on Star Trek TNG. The other actors. One who is now an Academy Award winner. Were awful. Juliette and Brad were so over the top about their ignorant hillbilly characters that I could not take anything about them seriously. But I have to admit that Brad has always played Brad and this was so far from Brad that he was actually acting. The only other movie that I can say that about Brad Pitt is his best role that he has ever done which was in the movie 12 Monkeys.
Don't waste your time on this movie. There is a reason that you never heard of it or seen it.
The Haunting (1999)
Wow. That was really bad.
Last year I watched The Haunting of Hill House. Which was an adaptation of the original story by Shirley Jackson. The adaptation story was so much better. I'm talking about the story. I'm not comparing it to the terrible CGI in this movie.
Scream (1996)
The original Scream still holds up today
Yesterday I watched the original Scream at the AMC theatre on the silver screen for the 25th anniversary. The movie didn't seem dated at all. And I have always thought that Scream is a parody of horror slasher movies (which it is), but it is a slasher movie by itself while it is making fun of those horror movies by directors such as Wes Carpenter. And probably John Craven as well. If they ever remake Scream Tori Spelling will probably be cast as Sidney. The movie is a classic slasher film even though it makes fun of the genre.
DeepStar Six (1989)
Terrible. Simply terrible.
I remember when this movie came out. Around the same time as The Abyss. I loved The Abyss. I finally had the opportunity to watch DeepStar Six. DeepStar Six is no The Abyss. I was relieved when the movie was over.
I especially loved the last scene in the pool with the painted clouds on the screen in the background. I saw that pool I think on the Universal Studios tour.
If you have time to waste you might as well watch this terrible movie.
Hot Dog ...The Movie (1983)
Who doesn't like Hot Dog... The Movie???
I saw this movie when I was 22. And I just saw the movie again at 52. I have seen it a few times in the past 30 years, and at 52 I think the movie is a great as it was when I was a kid just out of college.
I am a skier and snowboarder, and I watch and love the Warren Miller films (may he rest in peace). I also watch and love "Hot Dog... The Movie" because it has great scenery, awesome skiing (though I don't understand the ski ballet bit, no wonder it never made it into the Olympics), epic partying, and the most awesome T&A. Yes, us 50 year olds still love the T&A.
I have a Warren Miller film collection, and "Hot Dog... The Movie" sits right there alongside the them as a favorite ski theme movie that I plan to pass down to my children. Along with the Warren Miller films, of course.
