Very powerful and emotional movie. A must see for everyone!
6 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This is such a powerful and emotional movie that everyone should see because it just goes to show what everyone in the LGBT communities goes through everyday just because they go against what is considered to be social norms. There is a high rate of death among the LGBT community because they are bullied for just for being themselves. This was such a powerful movie that brought me to tears the first time I saw it because it hits home for me. I lost two of my friends because of bullying. Both of them committed suicide because apparently they thought that only in death would all the pain go away. This story is almost identically to what one of my friends went through only she wasn't gay, she was transgender. She was teased and tortured by fellow students all throughout high school but it wasn't until she was outed at work that things took a turn for the worst. I don't really think the ending was right for two reason; one, suicide is never the answer and two, the ending should have been extended a little bit more to show the repercussions that her death might have had on the community. Putting all that aside, I thing that everyone should see this movie because maybe then they might have a little more appreciation and understanding of the LGBT community and what they go through on a daily basis. I also think that with an alternate ending to the film, this movie would make a wonderful educational video that could be shown in all the classrooms, maybe then it might help to end bullying in our schools. Overall this was an excellent movie and I will definitely be recommending this movie to all my friends and family.

Tomboy (2011)

Excellent movie,well worth the purchase.
5 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
After seeing a preview for this movie I wanted to go out a see it. I spent weeks trying to find a local video store that carried this movie but I had no luck. Usually as a last resort, I end up purchasing the movie whether or not it was actually good or not just to see the movie. In the end I am glad I purchased it because it turned out to be an excellent movie. The plot summary is a little misleading because when a neighbor asks Laure what her name is, she tells the neighbor that her name is Mickäel which leads the neighbor to assume that Laure is a boy. Also if you factor in the fact that she had a boys haircut and was wearing boys clothing, I would have naturally assumed the same thing. After watching the movie I actually questioned whether she was a tomboy or a closeted transgender boy because the younger sister stated that Laure/Mickäel had in fact patented herself as a boy at their old home which might lead one to assume that she might be transgender and not a tomboy. The father and younger sister seem to be okay Laure male antics while the mother seems to be a little bit fearful about it. Despite the nudity by minors, not that it matter to me nor do I care, I thought that overall the movie was excellent and well worth the purchase. I would definitely watch the movie again and this is definitely a movie that I would recommend to others.

Bizarre but still Interesting
11 June 2011
Warning: Spoilers
NOTICE: if you are the type of person who is offended by underage nudity in films then this is definitely not a movie you will want to see.

I saw this movie for the first time about a week ago. Overall it was a wonderful but somewhat bizarre and hard to follow storyline. This is definitely a movie that you will have to pay close attention to. You will be kind of lost if you miss portions since all the scenes roll right into one another. There are numerous scenes in which we see underage nudity. In one scene we see a young male about 9 years of age sitting nude in the bathtub with a 25 year old female. We see a full frontal shot of him naked during this scene along with the breasts of the female. We see him naked again during a water fight. During another scene we see a full frontal shot of young Madeleine Budd when she is giving her clothes to her mother. Putting all that aside I found this movie quite interesting. I am a huge fan of watching movie that are sold in their native languages. This is a wonderful movie for the entire family to watch. Younger children who do not know French might not really understand what is going on because they don't really know to read the subtitles. I took a risk purchasing the movie because of the fact that I had never seen it before. I am glad hat I purchased it because it was interesting, bizarre but still interesting and it is worn watching again.

Wonderful sequel to a good movie
26 May 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I had never even heard about the blue lagoon movies until about a year ago. After finding out that shields was in the first movie I thought that it might be kind of interesting since she was one of my favorite actresses however after finding out that there was underage nudity in it my first though was "how could this be legal" since my understanding was the underage nudity was not legal in the united states. I put that  thought aside and decided to watch the movie anyway. After watching it I Saw just how innocent the nudity really was. There was nothing sexual at all about it. About a month or so after watching the original blue lagoon I found out that there was a sequel and that this one had mila jovovich  in it, another actress of whom I knew from the resident evil  series. I figured that this one might be just a good as the first one and for the most part it was. I mean don't get me wrong this was a wonderful movie and the story line was well thought out but the innocents that we saw from the first movie was taken away. In the first movie they grew up not knowing about puberty, pregnancy, and what your body goes though during that time. In this movie both of the young children were educated about the changes that their bodies would go through when they hit the age of puberty. If you put that aside and just watch both movies you will see that they are both great movies to watch. I personally cannot see how people can say that this movie or it's original with shields in it are in any way borderline child pornography. Okay so what I mean yes we do see  a frontal view of mila jovovich's breasts and she was only like 15 or so in this movie and during the first twenty minutes or so there are numerous scenes in which we see a frontal shot of young Courtney barilla who is only like 8 or 9 at the time but it's not like it is  anything that we've never seen growing up so I personally cannot see how people are so bent out of shape about seeing it in the movies but to each their own. Putting that aside both the original and it's sequel were great movies and their story lines were well thought out. They are both worth seeing and in my opinion are a perfect family movie for all ages. Younger children might not fully understand what is going on in the movie and parents might have to explain some things but both movies are family oriented.

Outstanding representation of the short story
26 May 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I had to read story in my English class back when I was in like ninth grade. It was an interesting story to read but at that time in my life I thought the short story was kind of borderline. I was raised in a family under the belief that boys and girls were not to be naked in front of each other beyond a certain age. Now that I am an adult, I look back at both the short story and the movie and I see just how innocent nudity really is. I mean at seven years old she has not yet begun to develop her breasts yet and to her she looks just like one of the guys. Taking a look at one of the lines from the movie "I never once felt naked" goes to show that she doesn't really understand the fact that young girls are supposed to wear tops in front of boys, well at least that's what society forces onto us, and that she didn't see anything wrong with what she did. I can sympathize with the character because being raised with four sisters I understand how hard it is for them to find a two piece that fits right and will not reveal your nipples when you go to lift up your arms, plus my youngest sister did the same thing when she was the same age. Other than that I believe that both the movie and the short story were tastefully done and that all parents should show this movie to their kids because in my opinion it just goes to show that nudity really is innocent in the minds of our children.
