The Door (2014)
Great film for fans of horror.
The Door is a great little gem of a film with a great looking budget. The cinematography was great, and the sets were excellent. The overall acting is alright, they don't respond naturally in traumatic situations. The story gives you enough to stay locked in and there's one overall question that needs to be answered, so it forces you to sit back.
*SPOILER* The general questions that are raised are great (although some still need answers, WHAT IS WITH THE LAMPS?!). *END SPOILER*
Lots of jumps scares, mostly false but still jumpy. I'd say give it a watch if your an indie horror fan or a horror film lunatic. The Door is filled with nice horror tropes and clichés. Feels vintage and yet a little fresher with the cine.
It Started with Money (2012)
Phenomenal Short Film out of VFS
This was one of the LAST movies to be shot on film at VFS and I'm glad this wasn't garbage. The practical blood effects and essence of film make this a delicious treat for anyone watching.
The pacing is great and the music marries the image together. Most films out of Vancouver Film School are passable, but this one will definitely stick with you.
The sets and clothing bring you back in time along with the weapons and lighting atmosphere. This film screams westerns, in more ways than one!
If you like blood, gore, girls, guns and mischief, strap yourself in because It Started With Money, ends with blood.
Captive (2013)
Shot well, looks great.
First act fails to pull you in story wise, but the characters are interesting. the side characters interest me more than the main ones to be honest. By the time the second act hits, you've accepted that it's an action film and are just in for the ride. Story could have been written with less clichés and thrown in more character development.
*SPOILER* The third act of the film ties up all the loose ends and satisfies your needs from what you'd expect from this type of film. *END OF SPOILER*
The cinematography was great and there are a few shots that are intriguing and eye candy from the director.
I would give this movie a watch just to see how a Feature Film can be shot in 14 days. Pretty impressive for what it is and being made within Vancouver Film School. Check it out!
