Cow Country (1953)
Would stand a remake
Yes, it's pretty hackneyed themes but it's well done with a couple of twists. The villains were real villains and the goodies real heroes.
Edmund O'Brian has never struck me as a handsome leading man who gets the girl eventually and, for me, is out of place here. Others play there parts well and the story line is good enough to keep you watching. I particularly enjoyed the obligatory fist fight sequence although there were some obvious stunt men substitutions.
Am surprised it, like others have been, was not remade in color to enhance the scenery and the action. Would seem ready made for the likes of George Montgomery etc.
Sit back, relax and enjoy- if you like westerns you won't be disappointed.
County Line (2017)
Good story line
I find the low reviews incomprehensible. Enjoyable storyline, casually directed and well acted. Good performances by all the actors too - what's not to like? No pretenses at being an Oscar contender but a good yarn, well presented and an enjoyable 90 minutes.
Operation Mincemeat (2021)
Original was better
The extraneous items added to the true story are unwarranted and slow the movie down. Quite why the producer/ director/ writer thought the addition of these would enhance an already fine story is incomprehensible.
The factual account was good enough for the original film and with this strong cast should have been good enough for this version too.
Man in the Saddle (1951)
Randy gets the proper girl
Good yarn, nasty baddies and strong goodies with great scenery and a terrific punch up in the mountains - sorry for grandpas cabin. Randolph Scott in one of his better movies.
