Killzone 2 (2009)
What An Amazingly, Breathtaking, Fun, Kick-Ass Game!!!!
I have to say that this is a really fun and enjoyable game. I'm not a huge fan of the fps games, but I've been waiting for this one ever since I saw the very first trailer back in 2005 I think it was. This game has just about everything that an fps game should have, I think, because once again, I'm not that familiar with the genre. I've only played Halo 1 & 2 (not mine, just my buddies and I didn't like them at all), 007: Goldeneye (Best FPS EVER!!!!), Resistance 1 & 2 (only own no. 2 which is amazing, but I've played 1 which is good), Call of Duty 3 & 4 (own both; 3 for PS2, and 4 for PS3; Modern Warfare is great, but I'm to slow at it LOL), Battlefield 2 & Bad Company (loved Bad Company more and it's amazing to blow stuff up), Black (amazing), etc. You get my point that I'm trying to make. I'm not that great at them, but that doesn't mean that I can't have fun with them. And Killzone 2 is that kind of game where I can just jump in at anytime and blow up whatever I want. The best part about it are the vehicles, though short, but fun as all HELL, especially when you get to be in that robot thing and just go crazy on the Higs. The story is lacking, as they pull things from other war/action films and use clichéd lines such as "Don't die on me yet," "it's cold..." (mind you I'm paraphrasing there, but you get the idea). The music is catchy as I often hum it when there's nobody around of course LOL. I think that they could have done a bit more work on the menu design, not that there's anything wrong with it, because it is cool, it's just that the colours remind me of MGS 2 with the grays and red. I don't know, maybe it's just me. Oh yeah, I forgot to talk about the sound, which is pretty F UCKING AMAZING!!!! I have my PS3 hooked up to my surround sound and my big screen TV and oh my God. The visuals are pretty breathtaking, which is weird because it's about an apocalyptic war where a lot of people die... duh... obviously... but it's still visually stunning and almost life like in a way. Now I haven't played that much of online because well... I suck at it, but from what I've seen it's just as great as the campaign, if not better. You can pretty much read about the online play on any other game review website such as ign, or just watch it on youtube. Anyways my overall score for this kick-ass game is a solid 10/10 stars as it's not only for the hardcore fans out there of the fps genre, but for everyone too. You just pick up and go basically.
Punisher: War Zone (2008)
My Semi-Review
This is my very first review here and I see how low this movie is going on this board, so I'd figure that I'd help out to make it back up to a 7 at least.
I just saw this movie twice already, and will be seeing it again Saturday... hopefully. It was totally what I expected from this film when going in, but it gave me so much more.
I thought that the acting was pretty good all around... even Jigsaw. I have been reading that he was the weakest, and just plain cheesy, but I loved him for that, especially that speech he gave when he was gathering troops and how he walked and talked. I just loved it.
Story wise would probably have to go to the 2004 flick, but I still enjoyed myself with the simplicity of this one nonetheless. Wayne Knight's character as Micro was amazing! I did not expect that. I'm not going to spoil it for you, as you just have to go and see it for yourself. And the Punisher himself... holy *beep* His presence was immense, as it seemed bigger than life whenever he was up on screen, and you're like oh *beep* that's him, don't mess with him or you'll get yours. It's weird because I knew how the Punisher, Jigsaw, and LBJ looked and sounded like coming into the movie from trailers and the behind the scenes on the net, but when you actually see and hear them on screen, you're like oh my God. It was that mesmerizing.
The music was very good, as it was dark, moody and overall presented what the Punisher stood for. From time to time the soundtrack, like the rock or metal would kick in and you'd be like yeah. The action was good, but it was pretty well spaced out, like it wasn't nonstop, which allows you to breathe more easily I guess. But when the action starts, holy *beep* it's nothing but amazing. Sure they cut some here and there in the editing, but still the subject material is pretty mature. It's a great action flick no doubt, not like Rambo where it was nonstop and gory as hell. That is not to say that PWZ doesn't have its moments, because it does, and you can take that to the bank.
PWZ had some great drama moments as well, as the facial features portrayed by Ray Stevenson was terrific. You felt what he felt and when you looked into those dark eyes of his when the little girl told him not to leave, you really wanted to shed a tear, well at least I did.
The picture quality was breathtaking. I loved the colour palette that Lexi used to bring this movie to life and the world that the Punisher lives in. It's not like Batman Forever, so don't believe what you read when you hear that *beep* because it's not true. Sure there is some camp and cheese, but hey, it's a comic book, action movie, not an Oscar film. This will definitely go into my DVD or Blu-Ray collection when it comes out I tell you what.
