The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Oh dear, no dear
How much did they spend on this ?
To believe this and go on the journey you need to respect the storyline and buy in. It just seemed to wash over me.
Light weight acting, sugar coated characters, minimal drama , no gravitas and no menace.
Just a few established actors may have improved the overall effect , although the dialogue is sadly lacking.
It's just so boring, a bit like a children's comic or kids TV, not for grown ups.
Such a great shame, was so looking forward to this, however given Amazons poor record on epic storylines ( wheel of time a prime example ) maybe I should not be surprised.
The Gray Man (2022)
Average, over the top action fodder
With a huge budget and considerable star power ( Gosling and Evans ), it is a great shame this is all Netflix can manage. Maybe the injection of some actual acting talent may have helped. I felt no menace or tension , was there a worthwhile storyline ? A total lack of suspense or surprise. Guessing the budget was blown away on the action shots ( nothing new to see here).
Great disappointment, given all the hype.
The Control Room (2022)
Muddled, irrational storyline with difficult dialogue
Found it difficult to follow. Riddled with flashbacks that are irreverent, guess with a thin story you need fillers. Dialogue was not clear, making it difficult to understand. Poor quality for a BBC production.
The Undeclared War (2022)
Boring, predictable rubbish
Work experience youth saves the day, what a load of rubbish. Not realistic, not believable, not worth wasting my time watching this nuisance. Why, oh why make a programme for the 9pm slot on channel 4, it's target audience is surely Kids television.
All the Old Knives (2022)
Slow, confusing and dull
So if you want a 90 minute sleep here's your chance.
Overuse of flashbacks leads to the very confusing nature of the film. The use of some good British actors is diluted by them speaking faux American. It is very ponderous, with minimal suspense, thrilling moments are non existence. Overall the film is dull and offers no moments of excitement, just a state of confusion.
The Ipcress File (2022)
Excellent series, loved it.
Captures much of the glory from previous historic espionage films. The music is used to enhance and embellish the programmes with some dramatic effects. ( with a slight tip of the cap to John Barry) . The use of light and shade adds to the historic noire of the series, very atmospheric.
Brilliant series, when is the next one ?
The King's Man (2021)
What a waste, what a waste
So disappointing. To have so much acting talent wasted. Childish banality. Rubbish story based on some comic book fantasy of history. Hey, ho . I guess this is what to expect since history is no longer taken as a serious subject.
The Responder (2022)
Dull, confused clap trap
Makes you want to cut your wrists, that's if you could understand the dialog. I assume Martin Freeman goes not come from Liverpool hence the strange interruption of the local dialect ?
Munich: The Edge of War (2021)
Tense, gripping film
Excellent script based on Robert Harris storyline.
Jeremy Irons gave a superb performance as Neville Chamberlin. Good acting support. Some great twists and turns. Quality production with good atmosphere. The storyline builds well , adding tension as it moves along.
Black Sails (2014)
Great escapism, loved it
So good , I have watched the series twice over.
Let's have more historical drama of this quality.
Good plot line, excellent actors. Based loosely on a prequel to Robert Lewis Stephenson Treasure Island.
Eternals (2021)
formulaic dross
Sorry but this is not for me. I am sure the CGI won many people over but what about some intelligence, some half decent dialogue would have been useful.
How about some humour. Blimey it was long, long . Free humanity from this dross.
All Creatures Great & Small (2020)
Loved it
Who would have thought that the original series could have been equalled but it has.
Whilst Sam West is a bit of a limp love he does do his role justice.
The overall effect of this adaptation is comfort, with a warm feeling. A very positive life affirming effect.
Bring on the next series. Well done channel 5.
Dalgliesh (2021)
Quality, intelligent viewing
Carvel and Irving form a good partnership. I do remember the original version with the excellent Roy Marsden. Carvel does bring some dark, understated menace to the lead role.
Just hoping for further episodes.
The Tourist (2022)
Great start but then downhill
Good first few episodes but just went off the rails.
Did like some of the humour , with some enduring characters but in the end it was a load of tosh.
Spy City (2020)
Best TV thriller for some time
Great atmosphere created, style, good acting, the lead character has understated menace, storyline flows, haven't seen this type of TV series for many a year. Roll on a following series.
Don't Look Up (2021)
So boring, so disappointing
With a stellar acting line up you would have thought this would be a reasonable film .......... No it is truly bad. Not funny and very predictable. Don't waste your time watching this dribble.
Crime (2021)
Seen it all before
Disappointed. Not an original thought. Highly predictable. Ken Stott performance was worth watching. Drab, dull script, which wandered aimlessly. Lots of pointless filler scenes that did not add anything. 6 programmes could have been 2 programmes.
The Lost Symbol (2021)
Lightweight and bland
Seen it all before, it was called The Divinci code, which was much better.
The casting and hence acting was just so low key, no character building, no suspense. Charmless.
Red Notice (2021)
Lightweight slapstick
Big named movie but a bit too predictable.
Watched for 30 minutes , got bored. No suspense , poor script, No menace. Seen it all before.
It's one saving grace was no woke , no PC rubbish , for that it deserves 4 out of 10.
The King (2019)
Absorbing
Great film, just right for an entertaining watch.
Guessing it's not historically accurate but the general thread will be.
The lighting was somewhat dark in places and the dialogue mumbled at times however still an enjoyable watch.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
So disappointed
I was so looking forward to this.
The next GOT or Lord of Rings but no it was woeful.
Poor acting, poor script.
Poor casting. It was so wooden , no emotion, no suspense. Guess I will just rewatch GOT and Lord of the Rings.
A waste of money.
