Prisoners (2013)
Warner Bros. put me through this junk.............
It's very troubling that this movie was even nominated for ANY award. The actors were fine but the script and directing was just ridiculous. The director had no idea how to connect the dots. I'm not making a spoiler here because there are so many loop holes in this it's like Swiss cheese.
I did get a screener for this but it's insulting that Warner Bros. should send this out to even be considered for an award. People who "thought" they had a handle on this garbage should watch it again because you screwed up the 1st time. The director needs one good swift kick in the pants.
Sea Wolf (2009)
Are people missing something...........?
Never saw the original. In fact there are a few versions of this story. I will make the effort to at least watch the Edward G. Robinson version after watching this mess. I can NOT fault the actors....AT ALL. The director completely 'lost it' on the 2nd episode. I'm not going to give anything away but so many red flags came up that it really brought down the whole production. The story is good but the director took it in some direction that escapes logic. Halmi Jr. fell quite a distance from his polished Dad. Still, it is interesting to watch and try to make any sense of why no one stepped in and righted this misguided work of the wonderful Jack London.
Criminal Law (1988)
Big disappointment
The blame of this terrible flick lies with the director, Martin Campbell. After viewing a few of his credits in later years, this must have been one of his first directorial gigs. He had a more than decent cast to work with but unfortunately he had no idea what he was doing. There were scenes that made absolutely no sense at all. Where was his head...............was he on drugs? I was looking forward to this movie just because of Oldman & Bacon. Maybe it was a short shooting schedule and Campbell just had to "bang it out". I can't imagine that the story that Campbell directed even came close to the story that the writer wrote. Oldman & Bacon, along with the rest of the cast, must have slid under their chairs if they went to the screening. As one poster pointed out, Karen Young did do a pretty good fight scene with Bacon. She really did 'let loose'. It's unfortunate that I have to fill in more space just to stay within the guide lines of what the IMDb requires because I really don't have anything more to say about this uninspiring film. One does not have to be forced to be a 'windbag' when criticizing a terrible flick and wish that the IMDb would change the amount of words to fill up a critique.
