Kill Your Lawn (2023)
BETTER Than YouTube
This show was just a very fun watch. This show is like part nature documentary, part reality TV show, all topped with a bit of edgy humor.
They, of course, kill a lawn in every episode. But along the way you are learning different about obscure plants and animals and how they interact with the ecosystem and make it thrive.
The least interesting part of the show to me is when they bring out the homeowner to explain why they want their lawn redone. You need the setup, but it is kept to a minimum.
Most of the show is them bringing in a local expert, remodeling the lawns, and discussing species. That's the best part and I loved every minute of it. The hosts Joey and Al both have a lot of charisma and make lots of fun quips.
I've seen Joey on his YouTube channel 'Crime Pays but Botany Doesnt,' but truthfully I have never watched very regularly. The pacing and production value of the show make it much more enjoyable. If you like reality TV and educational content, you cannot do much better than this. The last show like this that surprised me was Car Masters: Rust to Riches, which is a very good car mechanic reality TV show on Netflix. I think this is even better.
The Grizzlies (2018)
Suggested Netflix "Hidden Gem" that truly was exactly that
I saw this when browsing Netflix and I clicked because I saw Will Sasso in the thumbnail. I was expecting a lighthearted comedy, this was definitely not that. This was a tear jerker from the jump.
I grew up playing lacrosse so the story was extra relatable to me, but I don't think you'd have to even enjoy sport to enjoy this. It's more about personal stories and growth than anything else.
After watching this and enjoying it so much, I wanted to see how it was rated over here. It seems this is criminally under-viewed and under-reviewed, so I just wanted to push this up to help push this movie up.
