Enchanted (2007)
a near perfect movie
so lovely! this is a film for singles looking for love, for kids, just an all around adorable film--so different and so inventive! LOVED it. (not to mention the cutest chipmunk scene you've ever seen!) everyone who walked out of the screening was smiling. it's so rare to find films that are really well put together script-wise, and this is definitely one of them. u might even want to see it more than once--it's that good. i literally fell in love with this film. Amy Adams is a delight--I was pleasantly shocked to see there are a few comments below that suggest her role is Oscar worthy, but really. her performance is that good. And who doesn't like two hours with Mr. McDreamy?!
Rent (2005)
breathtaking
granted i am a renthead--must have seen the play a ton of times. but even if i wasn't who wouldn't love this film???? OK maybe that's a tad naive due to the subject matter, but truly, i was extremely impressed by the vocals, the cinematography, and the acting. i can't imagine this is an easy film to adapt to screen, but they did an amazing job!
the cast is consistent--the kind of film u want to see again and again. so please do ignore anything negative u read--the cast is not too old, the sets do not look fake, the movie is too dated, etc. this movie--and its positive message-- is extremely deserving of your attention.
and for those of you who have been living under a rock, take some time and read about how the play got to Broadway..really a fascinating story about the playwright who sadly, never did get to enjoy success because of his untimely death.
Punk: Attitude (2005)
F*** great!
loved it. loved it. loved it. really great accurate doc. punk is a state of mind....
depressing to see how many dead people are in this film...but that's punk rock... one big gripe--more ramones. much more ramones. but hey, i can always watch the ramones raw DVD.
and i would have very much liked to have scenes on--
billy idol generation x the smiths, the cure, etc. joy division and a certain beloved indie 103.1 dj to actually speak in the movie vs. one tiny scene to open and close the film...
but that's just my own happy little punk rock taste.
The Woodsman (2004)
not quite in agreement with the others
well, i've read everyone's comments so far, and not a single one negative. and to a great degree, i can agree with what has been said. This was a career defining role for Kevin, no ques. However, there is some things that didn't work for me. If I was the director, I would have reshot the first half hour of the film, because Kyra's character goes from tough chick (hitting that guy making comments about her, etc.) to sweet intelligent woman in too fast a time. Maybe it's because i know these two are married off screen, but to me, it kinda killed it to see her smile at him so knowingly, (so intimately) in their first few scenes. It would have been great to see her guard go down way slower....
That said, we come to problem #2 for me. Isn't there some kind of law now that has pedophiles not being able to live across the street from a schoolyard? It would seem to me that the cops (and whoever Kevin's character molested previously) would have a great problem w. him living there. But hey, it's a film, so i will suspend reality for just a moment. (tho i have to say, it did ruin it for me a bit) Last but not least, I agree the little girl's performance was well done, but in terms of the script, how many abusers should go in one movie? I could buy kevin, obviously, and the blonde creep, but to hear about the little girl's father, see her immediate tears, seemed a bit far-fetched. (not to mention the dialogue) but hey, i'm a writer, so maybe i'm just a little too picky.
