John Q (2002)
OK movie, one major hole
***SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS*** I thought this was a pretty good movie from an artistic standpoint. It has an obvious political bent (towards providing health care to people who can't afford it). One thing that I liked is that it didn't incessantly drive home the point and try to make the audience feel as if anyone making a little extra money should be robbed and forced to give money to the poor (which is what I initially expected of the movie). Although the movie is slanted towards John Q, the doctors make logical and realistic arguments as well. The ending almost seems like it's going to be Shakespearean tragic, but the writers apparently backed off to give a happy ending. It has one major hole, though...at the end, you hear the gunshot...and then he's alive again. What's up with that? Did they sedate him when he wasn't watching or what?
Out Cold (2001)
Confused juvenile sexual innuendo
This movie was, in short, awful. It consisted entirely of people getting drunk, and people (mostly women) getting naked. It was replete with sexual innuendo and never missed an opportunity to use juvenile humor. To make things worse, the plot itself wasn't even put together that well. The movie seemed confused and as if no one really knew entirely where the movie was headed.
