Midsomer Murders: Strangler's Wood (1999)
Good but Cully behaves like a sulking Teenie
I enjoyed this one and most of the earlier series a lot more than the later ones. Dodgy ones and silly plots occur rarely but after season 9 things went down hill.
The story is good as are most of Anthony Horriwitz's work. Some things were annoying though
As others have said - why employ an Au Pair who can't speak the language. I wouldn't
Why doesn't the agony aunt recognise her own sons problems
The Cully Tom sub plot was silly. Why do they need to bond - they've obviously got a super relationship. She acts like a spoiled teenager. Her father is a DCI investigating murders for Gods sake.
The murderer was a surprise but after seeing reactions from another suspect, I suspected that something was not quite s it seems
Apart from the minor discrepancies I enjoyed this a lot.
Midsomer Murders: The Night of the Stag (2011)
Disturbing. Rape has nothing to do with Woke
Good start but cranky
. But the final 30 minutes is hard.
There's nothing enjoyable watching drunks race off to rape young girls.
It has nothing to do with the woke movement as another reviewer gas claimed.
It's difficult to believe that such happenings occurred hundreds of years ago, but today..!! Unless the entire villages are full drunk on Apple cider.
How did this get past the production meeting. Certainly my least favourite thus far.
At least theres a novel murder. An apple shaker. Didn't look too realistic in the flashback though.
Neil Dv must've been wondering what he signed up for. It's a shame George Bullard has left. I liked him. I wonder what happened to his GP wife. Suddenly she was gone.
The new pathologist, soko, crime lab etc etc - not sure. Too young too cocky.
Midsomer Murders: Dark Secrets (2011)
Impressive cast, story lala
Quite an enjoyable episode and nice to Sarah added to the scene. However Causton Comp looked totally different during Troy's time. Although I have always liked and admired Edward Fox, thus role was silly and didn't fit him at all. Haydn Gwynn is wonderful but her portrayal of a Horse whisperer and artist just sadly didn't work for me. Neil Pearson always seems to play a flamboyant over confident ladies man.
JB is slowly getting to know Causton but his continual
put down of Ben is already becoming boring. I think Tom would've done more to help John get on better termswith Ben and George Bullard. I hope it changes soon. Sarah clearing and emptying all the moving boxes, putting everything in its place including hanging pictures on the wall in the afternoon after her first day of work was remarkably quick. The murderer was easy enough to work out although I don't believe they would have kills Phillyda Laws character. What's truly annoying and sad is how many times have MM Stories involved' keep it in the family' incest. Yuk!! We don't need it and it's truly disgusting. No more please.
Midsomer Murders: Fit for Murder (2011)
Underwhelming end of an Era. Unfair to Ben
. Would have thought that for the end of an Era it would've gone with more if a bang. But I suppose that that is Barnabys way. Quiet and without pomp!. Tombin a Spa clinic Never!! The way he picks answers randomly out of nowhere has been annoying for many seasons. I find it strange that Ben is depicted as an idea-less buffoon whose organisational skill are non existent and can't manage anything without Barnabys help and guidance. He's a DS for god's sake! Here it looks as though it's his first day out of police college .
The family especially the DCI, did annoy me a lot over the years but I will miss Tom Joyce and Cully.
Adiós Tom, welcome John
RIP Liz II🖤🙏🏻
Midsomer Murders (1997)
Started brilliant, going down hill since 9
I used to really enjoy MM but it's gone right downhill since series 9.
Barnaby is becoming more and more self centered often ignoring basic policing and letting people off. DS Jones us good but seems just a puppet. It's always Barnaby who has a moment if magic near the end and solves the case. His persona is annoying - wheezing through every sentence, gasping for air, heavy sighing with clenched lips and the Shakespearean diction. It really gets my goat how he speaks some words. Plus every time he comes home the first thing he does is either open a bottle of wine, have a glass of red or white or failing that than whiskey.
It's a shame because I really used to enjoy the first few series But a lot of the plots are more than ridiculous, full of holes and clichés as are the characters.
Do the producers know what a cottage in a quaint English village us worth - yet a lot of time cleaners, unemployed, bus drivers etc own these beautiful houses.
It doesn't work!
I've not seen the John Barnaby episodes but the reviews suggest I needn't bother. But my ol mum says there better so I'll give it a try anyway.
RIP Liz II.
Midsomer Murders: The Made-to-Measure Murders (2010)
Gone downhill. Fast
I used to really enjoy MM but it's gone right downhill since series 9. S12 and 13 gave been extremely poor and thus one is one one of the worst of all. Senseless and convoluted.

Midsomer Murders: Secrets and Spies (2009)
Not sure about this one.
A bit far fetched with plot and sub plot. Funny and interesting moments especially from Peter Davison Benjamin Whitlow and the wonderful Anna Massey and I expect we've all met characters like that of Neil Stukes 'nasty little weasel'. I certainly did in my time in the Military and Police Force!!
Sadly mostly unbelievable all the way through. The cricket match was, I suppose, meant to add light hearted humour to the show but I found it just ridiculously unfunny. Barnaby as a umpire doing whatever he wanted was just plain annoying. The lbw decision.......
Ben was good as always, I'm glad Stevens got her DC but she must surely know what to wear - she's been working there long enough. It was surprising that Joyce had such a small role - she's normally part of the committee or team or whatever that is involved in the plot.
The murderer is guessable.
A shame coz with this cast it could've been good. Better.
The Professionals: Long Shot (1978)
Trigger!!
I've got mixed feelings on this one. Loved the fact that the wonderful Trigger proves he can play it straight and not just a brilliant comic (and road sweeper - brooms😂 - ) but the fact the military is again made to like useless cretins really bugs me. Also that at the end they run into the building, which the workmen see, but the demolishing continues. The guy with the wrecking ball just keeps on smashing knowing full well that there are people inside. Ridiculous and annoying but fits for a dramatic end to an action show i suppose. Well worth watching and despite my negative feelings a good episode and well worth watching. Like the whole series.
Agatha Raisin: As the Pig Turns (2020)
Awful
Agatha has become exceptionally annoying and irritating. Why anyone would volunteer to work for her or even be by her is incomprehensible. The writing has gone from bad to awful. It's not humour, its stupid and silly. This episode makes the Carry On films seem like Shakespeare. God only knows why they decided to go down this road. The fact that Wilkes is sooo incompetent wasn't funny at the start, and now its even worse. The DI is often useless on cozy mysteries but this one makes the police from Shakespeare and Hathaway, and Father Brown look intelligent. Whivh is difficult in itself. It's just too much. No more AR !
The Larkins (2021)
My mum warned me about this remake, I wish I had listened!!
Awful PC tokenism rubbish. Bad acting bad script bad decisions all round. It's not funny. The original was perfick, this is drivel. I won't be watching any more episodes.
To Be Someone (2020)
It's definitely not Quadrophenia, but the music's ok
It's a poor man's gangster film but not as bad as some think and not a comedy as such but It got me through a wet and windy afternoon ok. The acting tho is pretty awful especially wannabee hard man Mad Mike. Cringworthingly bad!! The kids in Nativity were definitely a great deal better. The 'Faces' from the 70s and 80s era do a better job. Toyah still looks good but a once beautiful Leslie Ash looks unrecognizable. Spitting Image says hello!! If you like The Jam, Sooters and the Mod culture you should try The Pebble and the Boy. Its well worth a watch.
Happy Days: Empty Nest (1982)
Goodbye kids
It's a great shame that some of the decent characters have left, like now with Al. But soooo happy that Chachi has finally gone. Joanie was in ok Til she and Chachi became a pair. No need for fill in characters like Flip.
Happy Days: A Touch of Classical (1982)
The Nutcracker music is the best part
As one nice classical music intertwined with ear cringing Chachi and Joanie's attempt to sing. Why is there so much singing in latter episodes. Richie etc was ok, Chachi etc not. And I wish they'd learn to play, at least learn how to mine playing. Aaaargh!!!
Happy Days: Poobah Doo Dah (1982)
Awful
Another late season awful episode. Why try to make everybody a singer when they obviously aren't. Chachi if course thinks he's a better version of Elvis. Awful singing awful Chachi awful episode.
Happy Days: American Musical (1981)
Don't bother
Awful singing and dancing. Again. Roger and Chachi just annoying. Both think they can sing but both talentless. Happy Days is getting hard to watch. At least Sit on It, Bucko, Hunk, wah wah cc wah isn't mentioned much anymore.
Happy Days: Be My Valentine (1978)
WATCH AT YOUR OWN PERIL
Awful!! By far the worst episode. No real story just cheesy corny dancing and singing. I feel sorry for the audience who were expecting to watch a normal episode being taped. I didn't mind Potsies singing in the first few seasons but now it's just annoying. He can obviously sing but going all out crooner ala Bing and Perry just don't work. Introducing Scott Baios' Chachies character ruined the show for me. The Wah Wah Wah is just so baaaaad!!! Cringe! I don't like episodes with Chachie in it. Funny thing is after Scott Baio left Diagnosis Murder it got a lot better. He was ok though in Bugsy Malone. Probably playing a screen version of himself. I can't think of anything positive to write about this episode. It's lucky to get 1 star!! Watch at your Peril!
