Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023)
I am giving up...
I am trying so hard to find any and I mean any TV show and/or Movie that doesn't follow the new "culture" well I thought I can't go wrong with this one. Let's start with all the plot holes. If I can see them with an untrained eye, how on this planet can someone who gets paid for this not see this! Example: Main Characters board a plane (yes the Korean Border guard had a plane and could fly, wow) normally dressed, but when arriving in Alaska, all had "Alaska Gear" on (fully dressed for the biggest snowstorm) I suppose it was a magic plane. Besides this there are too many other plot holes to mention, the characters are awful, as the new world pushes the narrative of weak, dumb men and super heroes (women) who can easily fight and kill any number/group of men in seconds, funny thing is though when something heavy needs lifting, stupido men are here to help. Whilst in Chicago four female cops are unable to detain one skinny man (who wiggles himself out of them without fighting) every TV show including this one shows this reversed world that doesn't exist. Going back to the main character, daddy issues...daddy is a bad man and must be hated! This is all so cringe that I am now officially giving up on TV and Cinema. I will rewatch all eighties and nineties shows until the government will find a way to fine us for doing so...sad world but stay strong and cancel Apple's TV shows.
Narcos: México (2018)
Season 3 is so so la la
First of all I would like to acknowledge how hard it must be to find actors that resemble real characters and can act. Unlike the US acting is not that big of a deal growing up in other countries which leads me to the first point, 90% is with subtitles. I can only imagine how much got lost in translation. What I mean is good actors have the ability to speak and act in certain ways that makes a scene so much more....since it's all in Spanish I will never know. The mix between both languages shifted. The story wasn't really going anywhere. My biggest gripe was the narrator, I had trouble understanding her. Putting this aside, there was no magic. Again I realise how hard this is for non native speakers. To give season 3 some sort of balance it should have been a native speaker. I had moments in other season when the story telling combined with what saw gave me goosebumps. Season 3 I tuned out...having said all of this, Narcos is incredibly overall, just season 3 is so so la la.
Janet Jackson. (2022)
Awesome!
To me, one of the most astonishing part is how Janet handled and/or spoke about certain situations she encountered. This documentary had plenty of opportunities to be bitter or lash out about what happened in her life, yet she has taken a road many of us would not be able to take. She told her story without judgment on anyone or anything. In fact at times she put a positive spin on it. I totally understand that others may argue, she should have, could have, but she didn't, for this she earned more than my respect. It was wonderful to see all this unseen footage, how she evolved and how creative she is and was. Time travel just became real...yes, I am not the biggest fan of our current world so I am grateful to see a documentary with an artist that was (and is) part of my life, with footage that hasn't been shown before. A story told genuine and humble with no agenda. Peace.
One Night in Bangkok (2020)
Cringe Acting
To start with, I gave it 3 stars for the look and feel of the movie in terms of color grading. However (big however) most dialogues and acting made me cringe. Sometimes I don't know if we as consumers should take into consideration budget, like you get what you pay for. On the other hand we pay to see the movie, it's not for free.
To sum it up, terrible acting. It just felt off all the way and I am sorry for saying this. My lawyer is more convincing. He is a great actor after attending thousands of court sessions.
Mr. Mayor (2021)
What has the world come to?
Imagine you work all day, come home want to relax and turn on TV to get your half an hour "escape" entertainment fix...but you have to watch this show. I get that comedy is subjective , the problem is, there is nothing funny going on here. I can confidently say that anyone would have a better time calling any customer service center and try to talk to someone. At least you get to listen to music in between being passed around.
Now I loved 30rock, personally I thought Ted Danson's best role after cheers was Bored to Death. Absolutely loved him in that. What I don't get, are they so out of touch with reality that can't see what people want? Unless Ted Danson needs the money someone has misguided him. Hard pass.
Monk (2002)
I never understood what this show is about-until now
Due to the lack of good TV shows coming out (or so it seems) I started to rewatch older shows...like all of them. King of queens, Seinfeld you name it. One show I could never get my head around was Monk, until now. Once I started with episode 1, it just felt right. It's easy, funny and if not careful you will start to reminisce and go back to times when SFO was on your bucket list to either visit or live. I don't know what it means to operate under those medical conditions but Tony plays it brilliantly and it's fun to watch. What makes it unique (I think) is putting his conditioning to solve crime in a fun and easy but also heart warming way. Almost every episode has one laugh out loud scene like him being surrounded by sniffing and sneezing kids...enough said. You will enjoy it and feel good.
Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer (2021)
Going down hill
Instead of focusing on the story, we are being "educated " how degrading the word prostitute is. Men are all bad, yes by now we know how evil we are. It seems that sex workers who admitted to making up to $1000 a night (1979) are the story here and how they suffered (not talking about the actual story) long story short, a good story is a story that is being told without someone's narrative to try and make some points. I don't think it does justice towards the victims.
True Story (2021)
This is the first time it worked for me!
Usually when someone as talented as Kevin goes out of his way and transforms into a different character, it doesn't work for me. Not here, it literally is the first time it worked (for me). At first the plot was predictable or so it seems. I believe this was done intentionally but by the end of episode 1 it took an unexpected turn to such an extend that the final episode could have ended in 10 different ways. Kevin's acting was outstanding, Wesley was brilliant ( I admit my last movie with him was New Jack City) and I would want to have a Manger like Tod if I would be in Kevin's position. He played a very concerned and agreeable character at the same time, truly believable. My only caution is, once you start you will want to finish the entire season. Some dark moments will also come up, one in particular with Gene which was sad in a way. Peace.
Wrath of Man (2021)
Finally a movie that is a movie (let me explain)
Basically it's the first movie in a long time that I watched from start to finish. What I appreciated the most was that they stuck to what a movie should be, not follow political agendas or make sure it's so polished and "inclusive " for the sake of it. (Unless it's the purpose of a movie) The roles are given to people who will convey the directors vision, which worked for me, big time. I also appreciate the different style of filming, not your standard. A great movie is supposed to take your mind of reality for the length it. Mission accomplished. As for the cast, well selected, well played with a satisfying justices ending. Trying not to give away any details so you can decide for yourself...
