The 300 Spartans (1962)
Great movie, and boy everyone is a critic
Richard Egan was great as Leonidas. His booming voice and presence commands your attention, and added gravity and quality to the role. Plus, he has a definite Greek look with his dark hair and light eyes. The battles were great - and 100% real. The photography was beautiful, capturing the Greek landscape.
"The 300 Spartans" is a great movie with an awesome message about heart and persevering against all odds. Reading some of the reviews, we 're not likely to run out of frustrated screenwriters, film teachers (aka frustrated screenanythings with FAT chips on their shoulders. those who cannot do, teach..) and people who choose to compare their modern standard of film-making (you know, blood and CG, with a cut every 2.1 seconds) with a film that actually told a story.
People complain that the actors speak with American accents in this movie...GET A GRIP!! What would you have them speak in? A Greek accent, yet speaking English? All English accents, yet we're in Greece? Or perhaps you only watch historically based movies in their native tongue, since there are so many of them....please.
