A brilliant start failing to deliver
28 December 2005
After a brilliant start, movie is stalled with over simplistic characters and repetitive dialog before evolving to a pseudo fantastic totally out of the initial scope and ambiance. The critic of Hollywood producer and the admiration of theater writers are rather basic. The serial killer is interesting and could have been better used. Actor is excellent. Socialist ambition initially explained by the hero goes nowhere and disappear entirely in last part of the film. The producer is going crazier at each apparition. I hope it is far from any actual character ; but who knows? Hotel decor is very successful. Good shot, excellent decor, good actors but an inconsistent scenario ruins the start.

A unique blend of comedy, philosophy and music
22 June 2003
O Brother may be seen as a nice movie, including kids as it is funny and dynamic. But movie is much more than that. First, music and songs are excellent, I even bought the audio before finally going for the DVD ! Second, the adaptation of Ulysse myths in a prisoner escape is a great challenge and is perfectly mastered? Actors are great and sober. Playing the dumbs and fools is especially difficult and perfectly performed. I put a 9 ranking as the project was very risky and was a way to make a stupid movie and result is a great one : Congratulations to the team !

Outstanding views of sea and great characters
8 December 2001
Movie is strongly architectured with flashbacks and could be understood at first as the story of a pure and almost mythical officer (Wilsdorf). At that level, it is just a good story. Much more interesting are the other characters (Doctor, Captain, Mechanical officer) that have been all fascinated by Wilsdorf. It is a deep human picture of all our weaknesses and dreams. Everybody may find some points in these lifes while Wilsdorf is more an abastract heroe. For French, debates about colonial period and fidelity is also interesting. On top of that, some scenes at sea are great (I checked on a sister ship during my military duty).
