Stomp the Yard 2: Homecoming (2010)
HATED the movie. Didn't finish.
I loved the original Stomp the Yard, even though I disagreed with a few things in it.
I hated this movie so much that I walked out of it (even if walking out only meant leaving the living room) partway through.
WHY take a movie about stepping and turn it into a movie about senseless violence??? Plus, this movie doesn't have the eye-candy characters as did the first one.
The movie should have been light-hearted and shown more STEPPING. I'm super frustrated that so many movies about one thing just HAVE to throw in a bunch of violence.
On top of that, the main character does not draw you in. I do not feel any sympathy for him at all, as he his predicaments are all due to his own actions and choices.
The best thing about the movie was seeing tWitch, as I am a huge So You Think You Can Dance fan.
Paycheck (2003)
Unintentionally Hilarious!
I'm not a huge fan of action movies and have a tendency to jump at every scary scene. That's how I was at the beginning of this movie, too.
Until mid-way through when the movie took a turn from somewhat serious action to an over-acted comedy. The faces and movements of the cast and the ridiculousness of some of the action sequences had my sister and me cracking up in disbelief. I never did think Ben Afleck was the best -- or even a good -- actor, but I still enjoy many of his movies.
I enjoyed this movie because of its unintentional turn from action to comedy. I look forward to purchasing the DVD.
Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003)
Animal Lovers Might Enjoy the Movie... but I Don't
When Elle goes to the #1 private detective to find the mother of her DOG, I knew the movie would be dumb. I was right.
The dramatic music in a few of Sally Field's scenes was very comical to me because it was so out of place in this fluffy comedy.
It is possible that I did not enjoy this film because I am not an animal lover and testing makeup on animals does not strike me as evil; those who are against product testing might like the film more.
Punch-Drunk Love (2002)
Hated It From The First Minute
Immediately, I knew that this was not the movie for me. But the people I were with didn't say anything about how much they were hating it, so I suffered through the whole thing. Turns out, NO ONE has positive things to say about it as we walked out of the campus theater. How in the world did this movie get such high ratings at this site?? I have it a 1/10 because I couldn't give it a 0.
We were confused through the whole movie as to the theme. I sat trying to figure out what a description of the movie would say. I really wish that I had looked it up online before going to see this trash.
Never again.
8 Mile (2002)
Waiting for the DVD
I saw this movie when it came out last night. I'd like to see it again tonight. Even if you are not a big fan of Eminem, you will enjoy the movie.
I appreciated that the movie was not full of drugs or sex, but focused more on the mental development of the main character. The battling/rap-offs in the movie were superb.
The movie was a bit long, almost two hours, so one might think that the audience would be tired of watching it. However, it was so good that when it ended, we were like, "Noooo!" It could've gone on for another hour or so and the audience would've remained captivated.
I highly recommend seeing the movie in a theater with a large audience, as audience participation/reactions always enhance a movie.
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999)
Deeper Than You Imagine
When I saw this movie a few months ago, I was NOT a fan of South Park. I'd seen the show a few times in the past, and thought it was highly offensive and pointless. I was in someone's dorm room in March or April and he put this movie on. "Why is he playing this foolishness?" I thought. But then, oh my gosh. From seeing this movie, I went from a complete un-fan of South Park to loving it.
If you look beneath the language, this movie is SO DEEP! There were few parts I didn't like: The Terrance & Philip movie --- of Fire. Passing gas isn't & never has been funny to me. I understand, however, that it was necessary to give us a glimpse of the movie to provide a basis for the parents' anger of this movie & its effect on their children. I don't believe the song "Uncle F----" was necessary, though. The devil & Sadam Hussein didt't do anything for me. It's possible there was a deeper meaning with that, but if so, it went over my head.
I don't have room to go into full detail of all of the satire of this movie, so I will list some elements: The egotistic quality of Americans -- The Canadians were all drawn funnily, as if Americans think them below us. The fact that people always blame others instead of themselves (at the end of the song Blame Canada, the lyrics are "We must blame them before somebody thinks of blaming us") The way people put celebrities on a pedestal & exaggerate their accomplishments ("What Would Brian Boitano Do"). The way parents get caught up in causes etc that will supposedly help their children instead of spending time with their children (Kyle's mom).
There are many more, but I haven't seen the movie in a while, so I don't remember them all.
Since seeing the movie, I have downloaded & watched most of the South Park episodes & even in those, you find great social commentary. My favorite episode is "There Goes the Neighborhood" when the "rich" people move in. I sat in shock the first time I watched it because of the last line.
If you understood the reason of Satan & Hussein in the movie, please let me know, cause I really would like to appreciate it also.
Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002)
Funny & Gross... as you expect
Goldmember & Foxy Cleopatra were unnecessary and brought nothing to the film. Well, Goldmember DID bring something, but that was the "gross" part. This man actually eats his skin. It was sickening & I couldn't even watch that part. The entire audience groaned.
Other than those two, the movie was highly hilarious. The cameos added a huge part to it. The whole opening sequence was good; better than the opening of the second A P movie.
My feeling about all of them is that Austin could've left & let the movie focus more on Dr Evil & his family, as they're funnier.
I really enjoyed the music of this movie. If you're into buying cds, get the soundtrack. Otherwise, download some of the songs: Daddy Wasn't There was a really good, touching song. Dr Evil's remix of Jay-Z's remix of Annie's Hard Knock Life was a huge hit. Download that one also. Brittany Spears sang a song about needing boys in her life. That was funny. Whenever Austin time travels, a classic 70s song is played, Shining Star.
The product placement (for Taco Bell & Pepsi) was amusing to me... especially as in a clip, Brittany Spears was drinking Pepsi.
At the beginning of the end credits, there's a little bonus, but nothing after that.
I read somewhere that this is the last Austin Powers movie. I think they did a good job of wrapping up these characters in a surprise ending, yet things were left open for Dr Evil's son to continue the A P series.
When you see this movie, try to do so with a good crowd, as the audience plays a huge effect on the mood of the movie. Some people I know saw it with a dead audience, and they didn't have nearly as good an experience as I had.
Insomnia (2002)
Nerves on Edge
I hate suspense movies. They make me jumpy & I feel edgy for the rest of that day. I try to avoid the whole genre as much as possible. I was unable to avoid Se7en, Double Jeopardy, and tonight, Insomnia.
Despite my hating to watch these types of movies, I highly respect the writers & directors, because I believe they are brilliant. The plots of these movies are excellent & well thought-out. While I'd rather see a comedy any day, I feel comedies do not (usually) have the intelligence of suspense movies.
Insomnia was just as brilliant as Double Jeopardy, and almost as brilliant as Se7en. The movie grabs you & places you right in the midst of the fray and doesn't let you wander out until the very end. The deep exhale at the end of the movie only released a portion of the built up tension the movie caused. I think that all suspense-lovers would love this.
If you've read the plot summary for this movie, then you know that it's based on a good cop(Pacino) killing his partner(Donovan) in a search for the killer(Robin). After the movie, you'll find yourself debating whether or not Pacino's action was truly an accident or not. I feel that leaving such mystery is one of the signs of a great movie. The audience doesn't need to be 100% sure of anything. I close my eyes so much, though, during suspences that I'm never sure of things even explicitly shown. Oh well, back to American Pie and South Park for me...
Sorority Boys (2002)
Frat Boys MUST See This!
So going into the movie, I expected a hilarious, if predictable comedy. I was not disappointed. Matter of fact, I even got more than I expected from this movie. While never seeming "serious," the movie managed to convey a satirical message about how SOME fraternity and sorority members view non-Greeks (known to some as GDIs, for gosh-darn independents). Overall, I'd rate this movie a 9 out of 10. I can't wait for it to be available for downloading!
The Princess Bride (1987)
Very Wonderful!
I downloaded this movie & the entire time I was watching it, it seemed partially familiar. By the fight seen on the cliff, and the poison death, I KNEW I'd seen it before, several years ago. I guess because it's over 10 years old, I don't hear people speak of this movie very much, which is a shame, as it is a wonderful movie! It reminded me a lot of Robin Hood, Men In Tights, so if you liked this movie, I recommend seeing that one also. Last night, I was looking up Robin Hood, Men in Tights and discovered that these two movies have the same lead male actor! Not I want to see more of his movies, because I really like his style. I wouldn't be surprised if the two movies have several other common cast and crew. Make sure you see this great film!
Moulin Rouge! (2001)
Weird
I watched this movie a couple of nights ago and it is VERY WEIRD. I don't think I'll ever see it again, because the whole setting and atmosphere were a bit too dark for me.
I did enjoy the singing in the movie though; I was familiar with nearly every song in it, as they were taken from various other movies (such as The Sound of Music) and other popular tunes.
I don't know if the stars were really the ones singing, but whoever did the singing did an excellent job.
Black Knight (2001)
Great Light-Hearted Entertainment
I downloaded this movie & watched it, then came on IMDB to read the user comments. Because I found the movie very funny, I was SHOCKED to see that so many people wanted to rate it 0 & less! Next week is finals week & I wanted a light-hearted study break & this movie was just that. Of course it wasn't the deepest movie in the world, but it had its great parts. I enjoyed the dance Martin led, his incidents with the king's daughter and all of the other parts that viewers were supposed to enjoy. I remain thoroughly confused as to how people did not like this movie... unless they just didn't get it.
Though I was/am not a big fan of 'Martin' the tv show, I enjoy all of Martin's movies. Blue Streak, What's the Worst that Could Happen, Bad Boys, I forgot what else, and now Black Knight are all great if you want to laugh.
