Troll (2022)
Nordic Jurassic Kong Godzilla!
Nordic mythology meets all the Jurassic Park films, the umpteen Godzilla adventures, King Kong with all of its remakes and giant ape brethren plus Roland Emmerich's disaster flicks in a good looking film that is chock full of homages to those films. You could easily say the script borrowed a bit too heavily from its inspirations, but would that be missing the point?
Subtlety is not a prerequisite for an entertaining giant monster movie though a dash of humor with a few winks to the audience can add some fun.
Troll is an entertaining giant monster movie and a lot of fun (if you go in for that sort of thing).
Two Flags West (1950)
Excellent Cavalry Picture
Was Robert Wise making his version of a John Ford cavalry picture ? Ford had released 2/3 of his magnificent trilogy by then.
The emotionally resounding mythic backgrounds, complex characters, heart and quality ring true as if it almost belongs in that trilogy (Fort Apache, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, Rio Grande).
Recommended.
