Emancipation (2022)
Frustrating
I agree with most of the users who stated that it was difficult to connect with the characters emotionally. At the beginning of the movie, it seemed I would watch a very interesting story.
Quickly, I realized that something was wrong with the way the story unwrapped. It felt rushed and the connection with the characters was simply not there. The characters had no depth.
Half way through I had lost interest, and I was just waiting for the movie to end. I even fast forward some parts of it just to see how it ends.
The black and white color of the film is ok, and the scenery in the swamps too.
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
Garbage
I do not understand the appeal of this franchise has to people and the high ratings. And because of that, I decided to watch the film. What a mistake, what a waste of time.
The script is super swallowed, every scene and dialogue it's a cliche, and the acting is so stiff. Fighting scenes seem to follow the same pattern. Keanu fights like a 56-year-old man. Maybe it would be better to use a stand man every time Keanu had to fight because even to an untrained eye it looks too slow.
I am going to forget this film really fast the same way I forgot the previous two. Only the first one had something to offer for a film of this genre.
Big George Foreman (2023)
Very Interesting Story
I didn't know that Forman had such an interesting career. The budget should have been higher with better casting, but Whitaker's presence gives the status the film needs.
The boxing scenes are stiff and static compering to other movies of similar nature but overall, the film is worth watching.
I reckon that if the casting was better and the fighting scenes not as mediocre, the film could have the potential to run for an academy nomination.
I also liked the fact that the makers avoid playing the racial card considering that the story starts in the 50s.
Forest Whitaker, although in a supporting role, sets the tone and offers the quality the film misses to the rest of the cast.
The Watcher (2022)
Terrible
That was a terrible show full of plot holes and a lack of common sense. I only watched the show because of the two main actors, Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale. I thought they are both decent actors, the chances of choosing a lousy script were few. But I was wrong. How is it possible that those experienced actors read this script and agreed to become part of this project? I guess their phone doesn't ring as often as it used to. Their prime has passed and they agree to play everything if they get paid the right amount. To those who read this review, I would suggest skipping this show because it has nothing to give you in return.
Ted Lasso (2020)
Way Below Average
Before I started watching this show I read very good things about it. When I decided to give it a shot I was completely disappointed.
The jokes are swallow and obvious, written by people with no humor. Also, the script is all over the place. I found at least 3 films where they stole ideas from, thinking that the viewers won't notice. The "you have me at coach," that Roy Kent says to Ted Lasso is obviously stolen from the amazing "Jerry Maguire".
And what about the thing with the little girl's bad breath? Who thought that this would be funny? When the girl goes to the boy who bullies her for her bad breath, she holds the signs like in "Love Actually" wishing him Marry Christmas at the end.
The writers of this show have no original ideas and when they come up with one is always over the top. The footballers in order to keep the comedic element act like five years old having the exact opposite effect. There is the stereotype that footballers have no brains but their lack of common sense and decency goes too far.
They knew that a show about football (or soccer) would be a safe bet in Europe, and they are not wrong. Viewers are willing to let the bad jokes and poor script pass in order to see a show about a sport everybody loves in Europe. The poor lines, jokes, and script doesn't help the actors to show their talents at least for those who have them.
