Wolf Like Me (2022)
I know 10 stars seems like a lot...
It was worth every single second. This show managed to have the authenticity of an old monster flick but the emotionality of a raw indie. The soundtrack is absolutely amazing and it's the kind of show you'll want to watch again and again to pick up on its subtleties. Isla Fisher and Josh Gab are an amazing and surprising combo. Most people will think of Josh as "the voice of Olaf" or some other number of silly slightly musical theatre-ish roles, and so this is a stark difference for him. And he murders in it! Not literally. But Isla Fisher is also delivering such an emotional and funny performance that she also will make a wonderful impression. Also the actress who plays the little girl... phenomenal. This sort of attention to detail is rare in a show. The perfect balance of comedy, drama, and thriller makes it an instant classic.
Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell (2012)
A Perfect Archive of It's Time
When this show was airing in 2012 it was before so many of the big cultural shifts that we think of as defining America's media culture now. And people who are supporters of this type of political comedy now would probably look back and be surprised at the amount of backlash this show got only 10 years ago. W Kamau Bell made honest comedy for his leftist audience and did it in a fun way. It really felt like the show could have been run out of someone's basement and I mean that in the best way possible. In that same type of unpolished atmosphere you get from FX shows like Always Sunny. Very enjoyable and would highly recommend.
Lightyear (2022)
Unexpected
Lightyear is a character study type film that gives its audience an opportunity to think about life's big questions. This greatly differs from what may have been expected with the original David Bowie teaser's tone that gave audiences a sense of a grandiose hero's journey. That is not what you are getting here. It is fun and entertaining but the film is "grounded" in its world and characters for a reason. There is still fun ties to the original movies and some exciting plot turns though- this is a family film after all and not some obscure indie.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017)
Don't let the critics fool you
This movie has all the makings of a classic. The writing is good, but has a lot of humor which makes it an enjoyable watch. Throughout I found the characters to be very likable and interesting. Also the CINEMATOGRAPHY. It is a really beautiful film with really beautiful effects. In some ways this is possibly part of its downfall. Guy Ritchie was working with a massive budget for this movie and ultimately had very slim possibilities of doing well enough at the box office. In addition, if you are not a fan of Guy Ritchie's style then you will most certainly find reasons to not like it. The characters have a quick "silver tongue" type of speech, and the action is very fast and gritty- which are both classic elements of a Ritchie film. I would urge everyone to give this film a chance.
