Les mercredis de l'histoire: Opération lune (2002)

An extremely original documentary
5 March 2003
As I began to watch this film, I did not know what it was about.

The further this documentary proceeded however, the further my mouth fell open ! During this documentary, I kept thinking :"Why didn't I know about this? Why hadn't I, a big Kubrick and space-fan, never heard of this before?". I watched it almost the same way I would watch the landing of a flying saucer.

I will not reveal any "plot"-details, but this one thing I can tell : before you watch : try not to know what it is about. Let yourself be carried away and watch it until the very end (and do not forget the end titles!)

Without any doubt 10 out of 10.

Sublime political thriller
1 February 2003
Near perfect political thriller, with a perfectly cast Lino Ventura in the leading role. Supporting roles, cinematography, direction and score, it's all very close to perfection. This film has this unique dark, typical European 70's-movie atmosphere, of which these French-Italian productions seem to have the copyright.

A big 8.

an excellent picture
13 May 2002
having read a lot of bad reviews here, I'm a little surprised, 'cos I liked this picture a lot, Jack Nicholson plays very convincing and the cameo's (Del Toro, Redgrave, ...) work excellent. A compliment to Sean Penn, daring to make a film like this. It's strength is its slow pace and subtle performances. Most people should think it's too slow, it isn't. If you want to see a suspensefull, pacey thriller, go rent "Copycat" or "In Dreams", but this gem is too good to stand next to these films. 9/10
