Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)
Back on track!
This movie definetly brought my hopes up for the rest of the phase. I think some of the jokes could have landed better, but still, anything is better than those Thor: Love and Thunder jokes. The VFX is Oscar-Worthy, except...
Modok was horrendous. That face will never leave my mind. I'll have the worst nightmares, that face crawling up to me while in bed. The acting was pretty good. Would have wanted to see more emotions when Cassie shouted "Dad!", but Jonathan Majors was.. Exceptional.
They couldn't have done a better job at introducing Kang. He seemed so menassing. Also, stay put. As two, mid-credit and post-credit, scenes are available. Don't worry, they will be worth it, especially the last one.
Me Time (2022)
Another Boring Netflix film
What'd you expect, a cool and fun Netflix movie, yeah that's not the case here. This movie was VERY dumb and badly written.
Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg were alright. The rest were just annoying and unrealistic.
Honestly, this movie was just made for the money. No real desire here. Wouldn't recommend it unless you're a Kevin Hart Stan.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
I thought it was good.
Before I begin, I want to point out that I was one of the few who actually enjoyed the previous installment in the franchise. The Crimes of Grindelwald, for me personally, did more things right than wrong. There's that out of the way, let's begin, shall we.
The elephant in the room which is probably in every review is the Special Effects. None of the effects looked out of place and all looked very believable. The work done obviously took lots of time and I think it highly paid off in the end!
Next is the character of Dumbledore. They got his character perfectly. It's all shown in the first scene, where he (Jude Law) and Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) are sitting in a Cafe. The conversation shows how we grieves everyday of the pain that the blood pact has given him. Again, with All his conversations with Aberforth (his brother) and Newt himself. It is also shown in the final scene. The fight that had all of us choking out our entire body. Him defending Credence (alongside Aberforth) just shows how much Dumbledore is a caring person even if they don't care for him.
Another character done perfectly was Newt. I had issues with Newt on the previous installment that his character was poorly written. Nowadays, this issue follows us no more. I am glad they hadn't ONLY focused on Dumbledore and Grindelwald, but Newt and the rest of the characters as well. The acting by Eddie Redmayne was super emotional and fantastical.
The story was also done nicely. I enjoyed them taking a different and political approach when looking into it. I'm glad they focused on real life situations that people don't get enough of their say recognized.
Overall, I highly enjoyed the movie and hope that a sequel takes place. Though due to recent controversies and poor box office, it's still up in the air.
8.7/10.
Malignant (2021)
Unexpected!
I had no hopes walking into this movie. I didn't really like the trailer and didn't think the team (other than James Wan of course) were that capable of making a horror movie in the 21-st century. I was wrong. Truly Wrong.
I experienced the best horror movie I've seen since 'Let Me In' by Matt Reeves.
With The Black Phone on the horizon however, I think it will have to take my top spot then.
To begin with, the special effects in this movie were fantastic. I had only had hope from one scene from the trailer, which was the entire room melting down to fork another whilst the main protagonist is sitting on the floor. However, everything else was phenomenal.
Next I wanna talk about the acting. I thought it was alright. Wouldn't earn award nominations but good enough.
Finally, the practical effects were out of this world. Horror movies tend to use Practical over Digital. Which in most cases is brilliant. But some just get out of hand, Halloween 6 (ahem ahem).
Overall, I thought this movie was fantastic and would reach my top 10 movies of the year.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
Alright Remake, lacked important factors.
Whenever you're remaking a horror classic, especially SAW; you must follow a strict formula, which Saw 4 to Jigsaw didn't use at all. However, those movies were independent WHILST having some lore. This movie is straight up, 'we have a title, put some traps and John Kramer pictures, there's our saw movie!'. It shouldn't hold the name SAW in the title. However, milking a franchise like SAW is just as easy as making a movie for 5$. TBW, I felt none of the characters likeable. Even though their deaths were pretty much already written, I wanted to atleast feel empathy for one character's death, however, I couldn't. Moreover, the acting itself felt a little Too much. Chris Rock was alright, however the rest of the cast were very horrible. Lastly, the ending was super obvious. Developing characters is key to any movie, the main villan was not, so he's lines basically said 'Im the killer, but act as if you don't realize.'
This movie has it pros however.
Firstly, the gore was top notch and earned a standing ovation from me. It balanced the classical Evil Dead gore with Original Saw Gore.
The set design was top notch as well. Every setting felt like another character.
To conclude, this movie was alright. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love either.
Saw (2004)
Instant Horror Classic!
I expected absolutely nothing from a horror budget movie created by two writers and directors I hadn't heard of before. However, when I opened the movie, I was shocked at how good it was for the budget it was given. The so-called independent movie 'Saw' became an instant horror classic, following with 9 other sequels. It is truly a franchise never to forget.
