Hwan Hon (2022)
Impeccable storyline + amazing visual effects
I've watched over 30 kdramas and this one is by far one of the best of the best! I finished both seasons in 2 days and that's a first for me because I've never binged a drama like this before. The story line kept me intrigued throughout the entirety of the show and the plot twists were simply scrumptious.
Styling and cinematic/visual effects are crucial for me and this drama did not miss. The music was also well done.
There is one tiny plot hole though but it's pretty easy to ignore. Basically, the king impregnated Do-hwa in Jang Gang's body which led to her giving birth to the late king's son, Jang Uk. By that same logic, how is it that Mu-deok in the body of Jin Bu-yeon gives birth to a child of the Jin bloodline?
Maybe I'm missing something here, either way, this is still a must watch !!
The Idol (2023)
50 shades of not okay
The only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because i actually made it through the whole first episode.
Now, I literally only watched this in the first place is to see how blackpink's Jennie did in her first acting role. As an avid kpop fan and as a former blink I was curious. And I really wish I hadn't gone through all that trouble since she barely had 4 minutes of screen-time and also because her acting and delivery was very awkward. You can very much tell she had not prepared herself for the role. Lily Rose executed her character well for what it was and the weeknd was just straight up creepy, if that was what he was going for then he did a tremendous job.
As for the actual story, there is no story. It's borderline p*rn*graphy that's all it is. It shows a woman with issues and a man who likes to exploit them in the most horrendous way possible.
When this series was first announced I expected it to be something that highlights the exploitative parts of the industry and while it still kind of does that it mainly just glorifies it.
Our Blooming Youth (2023)
Best drama of 2023 and one of the best of all time!
Everything about this drama, from the intricate storyline to the eye-catching and beautiful aesthetics and incredibly talented cast, everything about this drama was impeccable!
I had been waiting for this drama for over a year now and I can say with full confidence that every second of the wait was worth it. I rushed here to write this review after finishing the last episode because this drama truly deserves it. This drama really managed to tug my heartstrings haha.
I was also really glad to see how the ending allowed the characters to have their deserved closure. If you're thinking about giving this a watch, please don't waste another thought and watch it right away, you won't regret it!!
Soundtrack #1 (2022)
Expect nothing less than perfection from the Hyung-Hee duo 💘
To be very honest, I was afraid to get into this drama as I thought that both Park Hyungsik and Han Sohee came from different acting realms and that they would have 0 chemistry in a drama with such a light and fluffy theme.
However I was proven wrong in the most satisfying way possible. I mean I knew both of them were phenomenal actors, but they really caught me off guard here, especially Han Sohee, since I'd only watched dramas in which she'd played some sort of villainous character.
My only complain with it was that it was too short. I mean yeah I get it that they were going for minimalism here but for God's sake, it should've lasted for at least 7/8 episodes. Especially with a heavily versatile, talented and sought after actor-actress combo, they could've done a lot more experimentation with the storyline along with the addition of a lot more emotionally intimate scenes.
To conclude, this drama is definitely worth watching, however I can guarantee it will leave you wanting more ;))
Soosanghan Pateuneo (2017)
Best romantic scenes I have scene in a drama yet!
This drama was literally everything, from light-hearted and fun to intense and broody. And the romantic scenes were everything! The over-all chemistry of the two leads would make you swoon.
The plot and the character sketch of the killer is also very worth-watching.
This drama was the first to introduce me to the acting wonder that is Ji Chang-wook.
This could've had a 10 star rating from me if only the female lead's character wasn't so gosh darn annoying. I mean the second things get hard, she runs away from everything she and Jiuk have between each other. While Jiuk tries to fight for them, tries to make things fine again, what does she do when she finds out about the complications?
"Let's break up"
Don't worry, they get back together.
Friends: The Reunion (2021)
Grab loads of tissues everybody!
I just ended watching all 10 seasons of Friends for the third time. I kept avoiding this Reunion Special for reasons I'm not quite sure of. However, I spontaneously decided to watch this tonight and oh my God... I couldn't stop crying.
I'm still too young to relate to what the actors were feeling during this, but something about it touched me deeply. I've never had any real friends like them but I hope that later in life I'll be able to find people who mean a lot to me and to whom I mean a lot to as well.
Especially as of right now, I'm struggling with severe anxiety issues and I don't really have anyone I can be vulnerable with. So putting this on not only gave me the closure I never knew I needed after the end of the series, but it also helped me connect with my feelings in a unique yet intense way. I believe it was because of how I am so emotionally connected with the cast, that just seeing them interacting, laughing, having fun provided me a sense of comfort. It was like a warm virtual hug you know what I mean?
In conclusion, this reunion is a must watch for fans and non-fans alike. And if you'd been avoiding it like I had, this is your sign to stop, lie down, and watch this :3.
Yeonmo (2021)
Great storyline but poor choice of leading actors/actresses
I have watched 11 Kdramas so far, including this one and this one was the only one that I wasn't able to enjoy fully despite the unique and intriguing storyline and plot. Although there are many reasons that led me to feel this way, the most prominent one was that I simply didn't feel like Park Eunbin was fit for the role. She was supposed to play the role of a Prince in disguise and not only does her petite figure make it utterly impossible for you to take the Prince character seriously but something that I can't really put a finger on is seriously off about it.
Another thing that seemed off to me was Eunbin and Rowoon's chemistry. The Jiun-Dami couple failed to send butterflies fluttering about in my stomach. Maybe it's because I had watched Extraordinary You before this drama and had gotten way too hooked on the overflowing chemistry displayed by Rowoon and Kim Hyeyoon.
Lastly, the final underlying problem I had with this drama was the fact that Jiun fell for Dami despite him being under the impression that she was a man. Being raised and still currently living in a highly conservative society, I'm not entirely comfortable with these type of things and would much rather avoid watching dramas/movies that are based on them (No hate tho).
