All over the place
8 March 2022
No plot, attempts at a storyline. Completely all over the place. What a waste of hours! Neither the main plot nor the plot adds up to anything. Love affair seems cringy. Husband-wife and even the filial relationship seems so fake. One story moves onto another with no relation in between as if this were the attempt of a photographer to bring together a scrapbook of images. And to be honest, even the images are not that great. So, don't waste your time.

Something Mediocre
6 January 2022
I was extremely excited about this film due to the hype surrounding it. Then I watched it and was confounded by what the big fuss was about. I liked the frozen scene. It is kind of like the ending of "La La Land" in a way making you feel that you've been watching this long film only for "that" particular scene, and which is -frankly- what makes both films bearable. In any way, the film was not something great but certainly mediocre. Don't be fooled by the critics who have hyped it to the stars.

"Possession" rip-off
9 August 2021
I was skeptical about the film as the summary felt like a rip-off of "Possession." I couldn't have been more right. It has a highly similar plot without the unexpected twists of "Possession." Adapted from the novel of Byatt obviously the former film is way better in terms of character development, suspense and plot twists. This film on the other hand feels like a waste of time.

Another midlife crisis drama
25 January 2021
I had high hopes for the film before seeing it -how can I not? Mads Mikkelsen is in it. However, in the end it just turned out to be another drama about four middle-aged guys going through their respective mid-life crises and how they want toovercome their boredom through alcohol. It's true wherever there is alcohol, there's fun, as well as a tragedy which turns out to be the case here. I have nothing against the actors, they are all briliant in their individual escapisms. However, what doesn't work for me is the hypothesis around which the film revolves. Yes, alcohol is fun yet it is also addictive. Alcohol consumption in huge amounts for functioning adults is bound to lead to some sort of disaster sooner or later which turns out the be the case here as well. I was expecting some sort of revelation rather than a cliche from the film, which is what made me disappointed with it. All in all, you may have fun watching it, however, don't expect too much from it. Oh, and don't forget to have your booze within reach!

One of the worst movies of all time
26 February 2020
C'mon Hollywood aren't you tired of stereotypical films about an Middle Eastern, or for that matter- Asian dictator who is overthrown only by a handful of Americans? I wish that the film offered something new. It started something promising with the action seens and fell onto the same path that others have threaded hundreds of times before. I wish that the writer were a little bit more careful with stereotyping in an age of political correctness. Better yet, who not deal with the subject of a real evil, like Boka Haram, as you had shown in bits and pieces rather than simply creating an imaginary evil based on a life-like model? This is lazy writing. Not original in any way whatsoever. Definitely making this as one of worst films of all time. If you want to save time skip the actions scenes and move to a film that is actually worth watching.

Timer (2009)

One of the most underrated films of all time!
26 February 2020
"Timer," with its sci-fi-romance plot is simply brilliant. The dialogues, the complication of the relationships -not simply in a romantic way but in a familial and social way, too- is amazing. I loved everything about the film from its reviving dialogues to acting. It raises the classical question of whether one can defeat one's fate once again in such a refreshing way. Although I would like everyone to watch this film, in a way I am glad that for most it's a hidden gem that needs to be discovered.

One of those rare films of which adaptation is way better than the original
26 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
For any Jane Austen fan, I think this film provides the ultimate fest. It is witty, fun and charming with lovely scenes, music, cast and great directing.

I love the modernisation of the original story -spoiler- (as in the 'It's getting hot in here' scene) as well as the additions, like the gun-firing and saving the lady in distress under the rain scenes.

-Spoiler- Plus, making Knobly a real-life character rather than an actor -as was the case in the novel- is well thought of. It raises the level of realism of the whole plot.

I have read the book only recently, after watching the film and I think the director did a great job filling in the gaps of the novel. With her aid, the story became perfect which previously I think had many deficiencies in plot.

Watch the film and I assure you, you won't regret it ;)

Boyhood (I) (2014)

Definitely visionary but nothing extraordinary!
24 January 2015
I didn't have high expectations for this film at all, other than the fact that it had Ethan Hawke in it with one of my favourite directors directing it.

However, the film doesn't have the charm and wit of the "Before" films. It seems like the one who added them to the "Before" series was Julie Delphy after all. I was looking for a witty dialogue throughout the film and was utterly disappointed when the film came to an end without a single remarkable scene or dialogue.

The film is visionary, yes because it took 12 years in the making. Yet, it is not anything extraordinary. Frankly, I think that instead of actors, if Linklater employed an ordinary family and recorded their lives without following a script would have been better. With this cast and the story, I didn't know what to make of it.

All in all the film is most certainly visionary but nothing extraordinary! You won't be disappointed, if you missed the chance to watch it.

Not to be missed!!!
22 October 2011
I watched "Bir Zamanlar Anadolu'da" just a couple of hours ago and wanted to write a review immediately before the satisfaction it provides fades away. In one word, it's a marvellous film which should not be missed!

The scenery and the images are fantastic. The journey motif makes it the lives that cross one another familiar. And the acting! It totally blew my mind! It seems as if the director is really relating the story of a group of people without ever making his presence felt. It does not feel like you are watching a film at all but from the very first moment you are taken in by the film.

I want to congratulate Nuri Bilge Ceylan and all those contributors in this manner. This was his first film I've ever watched and I'll watch the rest at once without any delay. I already feel like I've lost a lot of my precious time...

Thanks a lot for this cinematographic marvel, people like you make us realise that cinema is in truth an art; one which keeps mesmerising us all...

Karamazovi (2008)

10 out of 10!
18 February 2010
It is definitely one of the most amazing films I have ever watched! It is intimate, touchy, melancholic, artistic and beautiful at the same time.

The main plot and the subplot fit very well together while we see the play and try to make sense of it through the eyes of the technician.

And the acting! Boy they are amazing! I believe they are all stage actors & actresses which adds to the power of their performance. The actors are all marvelous and their chemistry is wonderful.

I specifically liked the performance of Father Karamazov. I would love to see him on stage, he is so captivating. In fact he reminded me of Haluk Bilginer who is a really amazing actor in Turkey.

I strongly recommend that you see this film with its insights to the post-communist era, great acting and plot, and its fantastic capturing of general human condition.

The Fall (I) (2006)

Just see it!
26 March 2009
I have seen "The Fall" quite recently, and I am totally mesmerized by it! It is an excellent work of art. The scenes are just awesome with high visual quality. The colours, the settings, the costumes, and the music are just as great. As for the story, it is wonderful. The parallels drawn between fact and fiction makes the film a magical feast. Belief is willingly suspended and reality is blurred. The characters are very well drawn. Especially Alexandria is perfect. I am familiar with Lee Pace from "Pushing Daisies" and there he looks like a good character player, but here, in "The Fall," he is brilliant. The chemistry between Tarsem and his crew, as well as all of his actors and actresses is absolutely stunning. The film seems to invite the spectator to take part in this quest. The cinematography is marvellous! This is "art" indeed, anyone looking for it should definitely see this film.

Amateurish
11 April 2008
I certainly wouldn't like to say something this much critical about the movie adaptation of one of my favourite fantasy novels, but Dragons of Autumn Twilight sucks in plain words. I watched it last night, and I couldn't believe it! It is a pity that the adaptation of such a renowned serial is in such poor quality:( I was excited about it but the result was total disappointment:( The first part of the film was OK, but the second part was totally unbearable:( It was as if while the pace of the movie hastened the story too fast-forwarded. Also it was annoying to watch such alterations as the coupling of Laurana with Elistan. Plus, the dubbing was so poor that it sounded like the characters were reaching out from a different world:( All in all they have been faithful to the story-line, but I still cannot understand why it was produced as an animation rather than in flesh and blood, or why they bothered at all in shooting it in such an amateurish way.

fantastic!
17 March 2008
It is remarkable that a movie can capture one in such a web of excitement without any real action taking place! the topic is really striking which enables the story to be told as if it was a mindgame. also, the dialogues are so interesting that one just gets caught in the rhythm of them. throughout the film one gets puzzled with every question raised and sees once again how history can be re-written. all in all, the movie is a successful example of its kind both as a histographic metafiction and a work of science fiction. it is a breathtaking journey that everyone should experience while wondering how things will conclude in the end.
