The VVitch: A New-England Folktale (2015)
Live Deliciously
This is a perfect film. Set about 50 years before the Salem Witch Trials a family is cast out from their settlement for being too radical in their faith. This film slowly shows you the consequences of their actions. It's absolutely spell binding, and everything but one scene is filmed in natural light. It also entirely period accurate apart from one scene in which the family is using candles at night around the dinner table. This is a slow burn that pays off massively and really gives you something to sink your teeth into. Scenes and dialogue were taken from true events though the entire flick is not based on true events.
But I'm a Cheerleader (1999)
A Perfect LGBTQIA+ Movie
Every single queer movie i come across is so sad and everyone dies. This is a flick about a girl who's friend's and family know is queer before she does and they send her to a conversion camp. It's such a John Waters type film. It's lovely, has character, has great characterization. I love everything about this.
Fountaine and the Vengeful Nun Who Wouldn't Die (2021)
Someone who finally understands Nunsploitation
I've been a huge fan of Nunsploitation flicks throughout my life. I started out sneakily watching them late at night on HBO/Showtime/Cinemax in the 90s when I wasn't supposed to and I always dug the nun movies. This movie GETS IT! It's not looking to be perfect, it's looking to be a love letter to the genre. Everything in it had little nods to other flicks not just of Nunsploitation but also Revenge, Horror, Blacksploitation, as well. It is fun, has positive lgbtqia+ representation, lots of blood, and you can tell it was a labor of love. This deserves your attention. I watched it for free on Tubi.
