Give Abortion a Chance
28 January 2008
I just can't believe it. Yes, this movie is overrated, but is worst: Is tendentious and naive. It's not a realistic approach to this subject. It's a moralistic fairy tale disguised as dark comedy (an old trick, by the way). It depicts a shallow and distorted view of abortion in the first minutes, like a dirty and almost illegal choice to unwanted pregnancy. Then, Juno turns in a predictable and antiquated speech about maternity, responsibility, family... that kind of 'feeling good' movie.

I agree, Ellen Page is brilliant, but the dialog is unrealistic and full of cliché. And the Jason Reitman direction is completely flat and impersonal. Really, is that bad.

The biggest Spanish production, the biggest disappointment
4 September 2006
Bad script, bad acting, bad directing, bad movie. O.K., nice cinematography in the mood of great Spanish artists like Velázquez or Murillo, gorgeous art direction and costume design, but there is no point, only a bunch of dull scenes with cheesy lines and three or four poor action sequences. Viggo Mortensen looks good, true, but his Spanish is terrible. An American playing a Spanish soldier. Bad idea. Hands down. What a disaster! 24 million wasted! This year many good Spanish filmmakers will not shoot any movie. This one is the reason. Too much money for Alatriste. And yes, this country has not cinema industry. Why? Welcome to Spain.

Before Monty Python, before ZAZ, before Police Academy...

...there was the Nouvelle Vague. Tire au flanc 62 it's a wild comedy about the army. Truffaut and his friend Claude De Givray (Stolen Kisses and Bed and Board co-writer) made this film to laugh at institution that ruined part of their lives. Fast paced and deliberate chaotic, Tire au flanc 62 tells the story of two young men trying to make fun of their duty at the army.

Very close to the Cahiers du Cinema point of view about the modern cinema, this movie it was a step forward of the genre and one of the first contemporary comedies.

A Film about Coexistence, Life, Death and... Consequences

Forget Dogma 95. This is real fiction. A stunning picture about a group of people touched by a tragedy: The killings of the Supreme Truth sect and their subsequent collective suicide. Amazing cinematography, superb acting. A must see film.
