Up in Smoke (1978)
Best Movie Ever Made At Anytime Anywhere
I have said in other reviews of other movies that I consider movies to be both entertainment and art form. At its core, it's a movie. However, with many films trying to stimulate the mind and convey political and social messages, we cannot easily forget that the marketing and advertising machines attached to them are best at "brainwashing" the masses. It was something I didn't like, and I was still scared, thinking it could be good or bad depending on what he said. And the message this movie sends us is total rejection!
Released in 1978, at a time when American cinema still felt the power of hippies and liberal, left-wing ideals, the film begins by introducing two distinctly Latino characters, poor and the rich, rich man. People are united by their love of medicine, especially marijuana (or weed). The letter does not exist and is received. The character is confined to a search for more and more drugs in the usual rush, and eventually returns from Mexico on a train made of plants, leaving a trail of smoke and stoned people to death. I am very impressed.
This is one of those movies that Hollywood should be ashamed of. The film is a great excuse for freedom and enjoyment of various cocktails of drugs, starting with weed and ending with acid, "speed" and heroin. The amount of information mentioned in the film is very large, the approach to the content requires legal action and prosecution of actors, product manufacturers, studios and directors to respond to irresponsible behavior and trifles. And if readers think that's it, I leave you with a question. Is it necessary or good for them to release films that depict Nazism or the Holocaust in an emotional or humorous way? Well, one has nothing to do with the other! But everything has reasonable limits, including entertainment, and some topics are not meant to make people laugh. I'm not saying I think this movie will increase drug use or that people who watch it will go out and buy marijuana. However, when our society begins to allow certain crimes and misdemeanors to be condoned, it gradually enters people's minds.
In addition to moral issues and conflicts, the film also has bad humor. I've never seen a movie where the character spends so much time in the bathroom or throws up. If it's funny you don't see it as a joke but maybe it's my fault. After all, I wasn't born in a cave, don't live in a cave, and my parents gave me a good education. Technically, the only thing worth mentioning are the cars, which start with a VW Beetle replaced with Rolls-Royce parts and end with the green car that appears in most of the movie. Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong earned a Razzie, and as actors it's truly amazing.
Personally, I agree to ban this movie for moral and educational reasons. However, it can still be seen if it is developed properly and the risks of drug use are explained. Fortunately, there are many good commentary videos on this. Right. Marijuana is a drug like any other drug.

Legends from the Sky (2015)
Obviously a Low Budget Film
The story itself was probably okay but the acting was really hard to watch and I couldn't hear what they were saying over the non stop dramatic music or whatever that was that was ten times as loud as everything else. Do they not test movies before they're released to see if there is anything so bad about them that should be corrected like the insane ratio between the inaudible actors voices and the blaring horns during the entire movie? Is the entire movie one long scene that is so dramatic that it has to have that much dramatic music or sound effects? This movie is what makes people hate living in apartments when their neighbors listen to crap like this and have to turn it way up so they can hear what the actors are saying. Idk how this wasn't rated any higher than one star. What do people like so much about this movie? Are they deaf? Must be.
The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)
Best movie of all time
This has got to be the worst sequel ever made. I am one of the suckers who paid $8 to see this pathetic piece of drivel in the theater. I wish I had listened to the critics who universally panned it but I mistakenly thought that Spielberg could do no wrong. Newsflash, even Spielberg will do a movie simply to cash in on a good idea and sell a few more lunch boxes and video games.
The plot absolutely sucked. It was totally unimaginative and often ridiculous (T. Rex in LA? Give me a break) but what annoyed me the most was the lack of any new special effects. I mean, if you are going to throw a moronic story line at us, at least give us some cool new dinosaurs or a few good explosions. The only thing that was not recycled from the first movie was the plot and I would have enjoyed watching a total rehash of the original rather than this. And what is the deal with the second island? At the end of JP1 the dinosaurs were still alive and reproducing so why did they even introduce a second island?
Not only is this the worst sequel ever made but I think it is one of the worst movies ever made. If you are one of the few people who has been lucky enough to miss this movie up until now, avoid it at all costs. You will never get those 2 hours of your life back.
Carried Away (2017)
There's a reason this movie doesn't have any reviews
I've been walkin' these streets so long
Singin' the same old song
I know every crack in these dirty sidewalks of Broadway
Where hustle's the name of the game
And nice guys get washed away like the snow in the rain
There's been a load of compromising
On the road to my horizon
But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Getting cards and letters from people I don't even know
And offers comin' over the phone
Well, I really don't mind the rain
And the smile can hide all the pain
But you're down when you're ridin' the train that's takin' the long way
And I dream of the things I'll do
With a subway token and a dollar tucked inside my shoe
There'll be a load of compromisin'
On the road to my horizon
But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo
Rhinestone cowboy
Gettin' cards and letters from people I don't even know
And offers comin' over the phone
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Gettin' cards and letters from people I don't even know
Like a rhinestone cowboy.
Avatar (2009)
Worst Movie Ever Made
I saw AVATAR today. It was a boiling 40 degrees Celsius in Australia. I caught a bus and train to get there. I spent months on a forum before that. Incremental stops included a scriptment, stills, a teaser, a foot, AVATAR day and a full trailer. Now released I have had many reviews to read which have been mostly very positive.
It is a marvel to watch. The opening scenes are very sci-fi with a glimpse of low gravity aboard a space-craft. Sam Worthington fills us in with a short narration. He is taking over his diseased brother's role in the AVATAR program. These opening scenes are actually among the most effective 3D in the film, pulling you into this story, tracking shots putting you into the steps of the characters.
I jump ahead, like the film, to The world of Pandora which is lush with earthly life as seen through pulp fantasies. The rendering of this world is terrific. The life and activity is in the plants as much as it is the animals. Wonder is generated with this ambitious creation. Cameron has lifted the bar. The CG is the best I have ever seen. Everything you have heard is true. The 3D enhances this with leaves falling and swaying branches life-like in the foreground.
The realisation of the Navii is also ambitious. They are CG but there are many moments that make you think they are real and in terms of the story they are more than good enough to propel the narrative with strong emotional content.
I went into this film knowing mostly everything within it. Hours of reading, some from the treatment and pages of the recent reviews. It is very much a family film like "Nealz" said in his IMDb review. There is a moment where one of the ferocious animal species that earlier were attacking Jake are seen with a litter, the children in the audience loved the cute pups! The spiritual side of this film is much better than expected. It is in fact a beautiful story. The structure is classical film-making but with amazingly new scope in CGI to express grand images. An epic
The journey that Jake takes through Pandora is lovely. He is taken in by the Navii and explores their culture, language and habitat. Natirii, the female Navii he meets while lost, helps him through this journey. This is a love story of both soul mates and with a wider picture. Existential connections with the natural world. Personal destiny.
I had tears in this film. I tried to hold them back but by the roll of credits they came. This is a movie that I have anticipated for so long. I think the ingredients of its story and my connection to this films production gave me a very emotional response. I cant imagine this disappointing any of the fans on the board. Keeping in mind that it is a family film but delivered everything I wanted.
Expect a special edition. After AVATAR is a hit, a special edition will make its way to the cinema. I can understand why they would cut the earth scenes and it works. The actual film seems pretty brisk and it could also have more padding out. You want more of it and that is a triumph for this type of film running two and a half hours. It is a good balance because at two and a half hours AVATAR is aimed directly at the cinema going audience. Broadly appealing with elements for everyone. My earlier prediction of a billion or more world-wide seems safe.
I don't want to go on about visuals too much but the lovely shots of the natural wonderland of glowing life in still 3D shots is magical. Something to take kids to see. Floating tiny neon li
fe jellyfish their way through the air with grace. The monkey-like extra-limbed creatures with the peeping eyes flock through the forrest quickly. The creature design is done in a clever way with the motion of a living thing. The action is over the top, epic, frenetic and a new take on the battle sequence.
James Cameron didn't stuff this up. He probably pressed the studio way beyond their comfort zone with the time, money and effort that has gone into this. Sam Worthington is excellent casting choice. Sigourney Weaver ads frank reason. Stephen Lang chews the scenery as the ultimate you know what. Zoe Saldana is beautiful as Jakes guide into this world and.
I went to the cinema and it was a very hot day. By the time I left the cinema, the streets were wet with rain. A warm humidity was thick in the air. Lightning splashed my walk to the train station with white light. I honestly wondered if It was my time to be struck down with a bolt of electricity from the sky.
Watch this film. It is destined to become a childhood classic to many little-ones too young to be on this forum. It will be talked about at high school by male and females as spectacular. It will be watched multiple times by fans. I loved it but beyond my appreciation for the film itself, is the the message of love permeating from this movie that I hope enters the zeitgeist like elements of Cameron's other stories have. At its heart is a soul. AVATAR is an achievement in many technical departments but I wouldn't say the story is deficient. It is a beautiful experience and the story is surprisingly what I loved most.
Parenthood (1989)
How Hollywood thinks people raise their children
The father is a total deadbeat for dropping off his biracial kid who he's merely watching for a last Vegas pole dancer but the mom is doing the best she can. The characters in this movie are so annoying. The Todd character looks like he should be bumping into everything the way he moves about like a cartwheeler at the circus. All I felt was frustration, especially with the character played by Rick moranis. That guy just got on my nerves trying to turn his daughter into some kind of prodigy and won't even touch his wife. I think this movie is more of an advertising campaign than a movie. Without advertisers there would be no movie.
Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)
Kevin gets blamed for everything
This movie is so fake. Nobody in Kevin's family sees Kevin's older brother buzz set him up to get in trouble and Kevin's mom just blames him and has no sympathy for her son. I'm starting to believe Kevin is an accident and they didn't go thru with a procedure before she gave birth because of their religious views and family values but the way the movie makes this kind of abuse seem commonplace and expected. Must be a sign of the times. I'm the same age as the actor who played Kevin and I'm convinced my generation is wasted and everyone born after 1990 is totally shot out from growing up in absolute luxury.
The Summoned (2022)
Write a headline for your review here
Saw this movie at Overlook film festival and will way it is more of a thriller than a horror, and if you are looking for a gorefest this definitely isn't it. It's great quality for a lower budget movie and I found it to be just the right amount of intrigue and mystery. The acting was great with some great humor mixed in throughout. The characters were really fun! I won't give away spoilers, but I will say that there are some fun twists that you really have to keep an eye on. This isn't any sort of giveaway but the main characters are phenomenal singers and there is a moment where they show off their pipes.

Beverly Hills Cop III (1994)
Save the kids
The scene at the theme park where Eddie Murphy rescues those kids while repelling down a thin rope with his bare hands took all day and was fake a.f. Couldn't believe the scene took that long. That's filler and nothing else. This movie has one or two good scenes and the rest are all filler. Garbage. Straight Hollywood garbage. My review was too short so I had to add some filler at the end. Six hundred characters they said. If you wanna see a real comedy you should probably watch a long movie with very unfunny washed up comedians. I can't believe i haven't typed six hundred characters yet. Prey (2022)
Disgusting Sounding predator Noise
I agree with all the other one star reviews. I'm not going to repeat everything I just read. The one thing I couldn't stand about this movie was the gross sound the predator makes wherever it's around. Sounds like it needs to clear it's throat or is breathing thru it's nose with a bad cold. Of all the different sounds they could've used, they went with an annoying and gross sounding one. Why can't the alien predator thing look and sound more believable? Otherwise the plot is totally unbelievable. Maybe kids these days don't know the difference. It's the fakest and grossest movie I've seen lately. The Adam Project was pretty lame too.
Starman (1984)
Karl Childers Character
The scene in the bathroom at the gas station where he's watching that guy in the mens room and the scene in the ladies room is where I discovered the rip off imitation of Billy Bob Thornton's trademark character Karl Childers of Slingblade. When they're at the restaurant I was expecting him to order some French fried puh taders. I also can't believe they found a room "far away from that stuff" when it's probably packed and they.

The Adam Project (2022)
Good Times Bad Times
When I heard the first two chords of Led Zeppelin's first album, I knew this movie was really just Ryan Reynolds doing his patented "Ryan Reynolds" routine with some single mom bait. I laughed so hard at the other one star reviews that I had to write my own. It's definitely not a comedy tho. It's soft porn at it's worst. Definitely wouldn't watch it again. I swear these videos are what makes people cut themselves...
