Gotham Knights: Of Butchers and Betrayals (2023)
Ramping up
So much happened in this episode and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. We get some big emotional moments, like Stephanie and Cullen's shared experience and Turner losing someone he trusted in a heartbreaking betrayal. We also got the first inklings of what is gearing up to be Harvey's devastating turn to Two-Face. Not to mention a creepy old lady, a serial killer of a bygone Gotham, and the Court of Owls cabal fully masked up for maximum intimidation. The knights are really starting to find their footing with each other and every time two or three characters break off from the group, we get a compelling dynamic. I can't wait to get to know these characters better and see where we're going as the season continues to ramp up!
Gotham Knights (2023)
Incredible opener - can't wait for more!
I was incredibly impressed with the tight storytelling of the pilot and the introduction to the huge scale of this iteration of Gotham. Setting up the plot for a season of television is a huge feat for any pilot and I felt more deeply drawn into the story with the introduction of each character. The knights are full of personality and the explicit queer and trans representation is so important, especially with the political climate of the U. S. at the moment. I'm really interested in how Turner (who at this point is representing light and justice) will develop as he joins up with the knights. The score, set dressing, costumes, and cinematography feel big budget and grand. That closing scene has got me hyped to see what happens next. The teaser for the rest of the season is incredible too- the Court of Owls, Harvey Dent's fracturing and turn to Two-Face, and the Knights working together. It looks like there will be plenty of twists and turns to come, and I'm excited to tune in for the next episode.
