Land of Bad (2024)
Drop Your Requirement for Accuracy
This is an exciting movie with some M A J O R technical flaws. Russell Crowe is supposed to be an active duty USAF Capt. His age, weight, beard and creative use of a uniform jacket that I have never seen before scream "check the regs", at least to me. His NCO assistant is wearing an Air Force uniform with Army rank (Staff Sergeant). A HALO jump with no qualifications is pretty much a no-go but it could happen; SAT PHONE calls from an air vent in an underground bunker in a jungle; a completely inept drone operations staff at Nellis; and so much more...
All that being said it is an interesting story line and, while it cost several million taxpayer dollars to rescue one "asset" it makes for a nice 2 hour movie. I like all the actors so, all and all it is a GO at this station.
The Civil War: Forever Free (1862) (1990)
Misleading Reference To The Maryland Campaign
While I thoroughly enjoy all of Burns' works I now have a more suspicious view of his research process. In Episode 3 of his series on The Civil War, Burns dedicates 2 minutes to Lee's campaign into Maryland reporting that Lee intended to make it to Harrisburg, PA. He actually states that when Lee's Order #191, showing that Lee had split his forces, was found that McClellan did nothing for 18 hours to engage the enemy. That is totally inaccurate. McClellan reacted immediately on Sept. 13th and moved units to South Mountain to engage the enemy at Turner's Gap; Fox's Gap; and Crampton's Gap. The Battle of South Mountain (Battle of Boonsboro in the South) took place on Sept 14th. As a result, Lee was forced to abandon his plan and return to Virginia by way of Sharpsburg, MD. He got caught there at Antietam Creek and had no option but to fight.

Technicalities Make (or Break) A Good War Movie
Was there any attempt to get a military technical advisor on this farce of a film? This thing is so full of mistakes I only made it about 15 minutes before I gave up.
UNIFORMS - Ranger tabs are small and they were not worn on an Army uniform until 1950. Rangers on Operation Overlord wore a oblong diamond, blue with gold borders and "RANGERS" embroidered in the center. No Ranger wore a 4th Infantry Division patch because the 4th landed on Utah Beach and were a separate unit.
How many variations on the helmet could there be in one movie? Some had real looking M1 steel pots, others had just helmet liners and some had, what appeared to be Italian helmets.
Who scales a cliff without a weapon or combat kit? Who hugs a wall when grenades are dropped 5 feet away? What unit celebrates taking a position like Pointe du Hoc without pushing out a defensive perimeter and clearing the area?
Cheesy script, bad acting and bad actors, coupled with no historical accuracy makes for a truly miserable movie.
Deputy (2020)
Liberal Propaganda
As a retired cop I was hesitant about watching this show. My concern was that it was going to be unrealistic in an effort to try and garner support from people who really don't understand law enforcement. I was wrong. It's stupid because it's buying into the liberal outlook on how local law enforcement and federal law enforcement need to work together to keep this country safe. The sheriff portrayed in this show is the figment of the imagination of writers that have no understanding or knowledge about the symbiotic relationship in the law enforcement family in this country. The libs from California have gotten to Fox regarding the true mission of ICE and it's contribution to the safety of immigrants and this country. Our only hope is that enough people can turn the channel and this show evaporates forever.
