Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
Significantly Exceeded Very Low Expectations
Before seeing I joked Film should've been titled Geriatric Jones-The Quest For Depends. As a huge fan of the Trilogy, considering Raiders the greatest action film of all time and then #4 Crystal Skull - the biggest movie letdown of all time - and a total waste of 19 years of waiting, my expectations were real low, in fact almost didn't see it but it was one of Friday Nights where I had nothing else to do.
BUT...
When I left after the movie, I said it was OK...They pulled it off and I can say it was far better than #4 (that film name won't be mentioned again). Sure it did have as many funny lines and it was somewhat of a somber plot that was nonstop action. But let's be honest...we had an 80 year old lead in an action film...keep it moving and you forget he is 80. They also fixed that with an ambitious co-adventurer who at times stole the spotlight. Indy needs a female co-adventurer and although she was a bit too strong a women and outside the realm of reality...Helena worked as there needed to be someone to make up for Indy's miles and they could not make the adventure all male.
Movie had some good nostalgia, and it was fun because they were fighting Nazis.
Verdict-Decent send off worth seeing. The last action sequence was enjoyable but don't want to put spoilers in this review.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Solid Movie - Worthy Tribute
Here is my instant reaction-Movie was predictable, plot was so so, acting was good.
But so what? It's Top Gun, and like the original, the plot was a bit cheesy. But that isn't the point. The movie was about seeing high tech aviation in action as well as paying tribute to a classics 80's film at a time where patriotism was far more common and we didn't hate one another so much. In short the film made you feel good and proud to be an American.
The movie had flying scenes, a lot of them which is precisely what we wanted. It had an an iconic actor who you kept thinking that guy is 60? For that matter his costar at 52 was no slouch herself...my wife has ordered me to do 200 push-ups a day.
Is this same great movie to be remembered for years to come. Probably not. Its a movie that you see and say that was fun. It's a well deserved summer blockbuster. See it, enjoy it and when you come to those parts where you say that couldn't happen...the answer is it's a movie move on.
Against the Odds (1982)
Great Show For Smart Kids
Watched this show on Nickelodeon. Great summary of historical figures. Very informative, still remember parts of this as I think of historical figures. Wish we had more TV shows like this today. Would love to get my hands on the entire library.
