The Witcher: Family (2021)
Henry Cavil carries this show.
Even when the writers mess up Henry Cavil IS Geralt. This show has show much potential, but clearly they are just using characters names from the books, but not preserving the books material itself. I do not know how hard it is to become a writer, but I am assuming it is becoming a social club, because they make the same mistakes time and time again.
This show still keeps me coming back and it is due to the world of The Witcher. The show is piggybacking off of a world heavily established by the books and video games, but this is what it should do! The Witcher is perfect, as it needs no outside influence from sub-par writing teams.
Please writers, do your jobs and appease long time fans. If you make quality content the casual viewers will follow. Henry Cavil is carrying this show on his back along with a large established fan base.
The Wheel of Time: The Eye of the World (2021)
The massacred my boy.
Read 6 of the books years ago and was looking forward to Amazon bringing it to life. There is not much to like about this on screen adaptation. Ishamael is very much insane in the first book, but here he is portrayed as a typical man masquerading as The Dark One. Rand first channeling is a huge display of the one power, but here it is just a white light sparkle?
This show is amateur at best. Too much trying to appeal to woman power and not enough preservation of the book material. The books have a ton of women power that the modern era loves without diluting it and making it cheesy.
The writing and direction of this show can only be described as tainted by The Dark One. They need to bury this and maybe someone with some actual love for Robert Jordan's work can start again as the wheel turns and ages pass.
Shadow and Bone: A Searing Burst of Light (2021)
Great beginnings.
This show is quick to establish the main characters as they venture in to the world. Any fantasy show has to establish its characters, world building, and magic system(s). This show excels at all three and I really enjoy learning about the magic (small science they call it) within the world.
The show is gorgeous to watch. Set designs and cinematography here on top notch. If you have been sitting on Shadow and Bone (as I did) please give it a watch. If you are in to fantasy you cannot go wrong with this show. There are little to no shows in its genre right now that can match it.
Shadow and Bone: No Mourners (2021)
Excellent start to a fantasy series.
This series has everything you could ask for from a fantasy series. Great pace, fantastic action, and phenomenal actors. Never read the books, but I might dig in to some of them now that this show has me hooked.
It can be a weekend binge watch. There is no filler episode here. It has typical Game of Thrones-esque writing, but you can expect that for any big budget show these days. The budget must be extensive, because the shots, sets, and locations are gorgeous.
I would recommend to anyone looking for a fantasy series that has well written characters, a fun plot, and a based magical system.
Locke & Key: The Premiere (2021)
Woke trash.
Signature Netflix show, they get green lit for a second season, then they shove woke ideas down our throats. Absolutely disgusting practice. Alphabet club characters can be a great addition if done well, but the Netflix writers only seem to write pathetic 2D characters meant to annoy a percentage of their audience.
