Little Ukraine (2022)
Smart and Suspenseful
Went into this one not knowing what to expect and emerged a fan. An intricate, sophisticated study in generational conflict, Little Ukraine maintains a surprisingly hard emotional edge, while managing to deliver edge of your seat suspense from start to finish. A marvelous and at times heartbreaking distillation of the American dream gone astray, it transcends beyond the usual crime thriller fare with its rich storytelling, gritty realism, and haunting portrayal of the hopes and hurts that carry across generations. An exceedingly fresh take on the American experience that is at once evocative and compelling, this is one you won't want to miss.
The Wire (2002)
Heartbreakingly Brilliant
Although it's frequently overshadowed by the other HBO dramas to have come before and since, The Wire remains one of the best pieces of storytelling to ever grace any screen, big or small. At times humorous, at other times heartbreaking, but always compelling, the gritty authenticity of this show is second to none.
The Boys (2019)
Satire at its Finest
A masterful deconstruction of the superhero genre expertly blended with dark comedy and brimming with social commentary. I wasn't sure if I was going to like this one at first and it turns out I was right - I don't like it. I love it.
Better Call Saul (2015)
Spin Off Done Right
One of the few examples in television history where the spin off is arguably better than the series that spawned it. Its nuanced approach to character development combined with epic storytelling and artful cinematography make this one infinitely binge-worthy.
