The Big Trees (1952)

The conflict how the collective, that personal ambitions and interests with the social norms, laws and moral principles
5 May 2013
In a respective recorded events that occur at the turn of 19th to 20th century in the United States in California during the conflict how the collective, that personal ambitions and interests with the social norms, laws and moral principles they the first are the winners.

The movie "The Big Trees (1952)" attempts to provide answers to above question. This is the weaker the developed film, which is the biggest drawback inconsistent flow of the plot with the result that the action is difficult to connect. However, if the creators of this, still under a mediocre film, viewers would like to point out the moral dilemmas of the actors in this drama they are somewhat succeed.

Unscrupulous Jim Fallon, greedy of money, wants to be all they could enrich the exploitation of the giant sequoias whom opposes the Quaker colony which considers that is the sequoia tree a sacred tree. In the ensuing conflict gradually come to see the moral problems of almost all characters and even members of the Quaker community, led by their leader Alicia Chadwick. How many events are taking place most of the characters , because its personal interests, till the end discovers and shows their hypocrisy. Mainly guilt of Jim Fallon many have died in the conflicts, between them is and the father of Alicia Chadwick, which again at the end of the movie, in a well-recorded breakneck ride the train, the unfortunate J. Fallon saves life, so she finally rejects of what little of its moral scruples. Despite everything, she married J. Fallon!

The events typical for the liberal capitalism in the USA from 19th and early 20th century, whose protagonists are the ones most are subject finally to its rules, rejecting their moral principles and they are caught in its vicious network.

A serious drawback of the movie is a mediocre photography and especially poorly recorded a numerous night scenes.

The main actors are more or less succeed to act out characters that have starred. Among them are Kirk Douglas (as Jim Fallon), which is otherwise many times successfully played the violent and unscrupulous characters in its rich film career. There are Eve Miller (as Alicia Chadwick,) and Edgar Buchanan (as Walter 'Yukon' Burns).

This is certainly not a comedy as it stands
26 January 2013
According to the average assessment of 7.1 this movie belongs to the overrated and his realistic assessment is up to 6. The highest lack of the movie is its excessive length of 120 minutes. Director John Farrow and the screenwriters have the problems with a feeling of measure for the duration of required scenes what this movie make sure a boring and at moments an uninteresting, although the theme of the movie itself is an unusual and one that promises. As I've written before the most of the scenes are too long, and some of them are missing as a scene that is supposed to explain the murder of agent Bill Lusk. Another shortcoming of this movie is the a great number of characters, what additionally burden on the already extensive action. All these are the challenges that require a more skill than they did in this movie, the listed director and screenwriter. And this movie will be remembered for being the supporting actor, great Vincent Price, was brilliant and his inspired acting surpassed the main actors, the solid Robert Mitchum and Jane Russell that by the way here shows your own singing talent. Great actor Tim Holt less appears in the movie so that the audience remained deprived to enjoy a little more in his role as Bill Lusk, an FBI agent. This is certainly not a comedy as it stands, already it's a classic crime movie, maybe movie-noir, as sub-genre.

A rare movie that dealing with a taboo topic: the relationships between the slave owners and the slaves
13 January 2013
Tarantino has finally made a movie that, when thinking of American cinema, still rare dealing with a taboo topic: the relationships between the slave owners and the slaves, that is welcome!

In the movie, which is so full the violence, it stands out a whole repertoire sadistic torture scenes that are applied by whites against blacks.

All in all I am satisfied with this movie except for the usual remarks that this movie has a slight drop in quality at the end. This movie will be remembered the most an inspired superb acting, by the Oscar winner, excellent Christoph Waltz (plays a character Dr. King Schultz) and a superb acting Leonardo DiCaprio (plays a character Calvin Candie). Excellent Christoph Waltz was brilliant in the unusual and complex role a refined bounty hunter and he successfully carried the action of this movie. I think the writer and director Q. Tarantino made a serious mistake that he was relieved before the end of the movie the characters which starred C. Walz and L. DiCaprio. The role of J. Foxx was a routine, less complex, that he satisfying acted. Tarantino's usual actor Samuel L. Jackson (plays a character Stephen) is also demanding that he acted well.

I hope that the excellent actor Christoph Waltz win a Oscar again for the best supporting role and will soon play a major role in a future Tarantino's movie.

My comment
11 June 2007
Quentin Tarantino has called it "the best-directed film of all time." For me it is a majestic film. Sergio Leone is the greatest director. He is the complete artist, stylist. His films have a specially charm, though are full of the outrage. They are can watch for hundred times. It is a quality of the great artist what was S.Leone. The fine story, with a wonderful photography and adequate music of the greatest film music composer E. Morricone plus the rhythm generates a masterpiece. Does not need forget the excellent actors whose merit is the big for a global impression.

Thanks!
