DO NOT watch this movie if you ever liked Anne or care about her character
20 April 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Wow. I'm amazed that Kevin Sullivan made this movie. To me, this is just sad. Pathetic and sad. Kevin Sullivan clearly is in need of some cash, so he and his company decide to trot the "Anne" story out again and see if they can ring it dry, squeeze a bit more profit out.

I am completely rejecting this story as part of the "Anne" story. Kill off Gilbert? What a joke. That does not happen. I am actually angry at Sullivan for betraying the fans with this drivel. How dare he concoct this horrible junk about Anne just to try and come up with something passing for a story?!! As for the actors, of course they are poorly cast. But I don't fault them. No one could ever take the place of the original actors, so it was an impossible task.

Maybe the movie could have worked if it weren't an add-on to such a powerful mythology that so many people care about and love.

Shame on you, Kevin Sullivan, for betraying the fans that have loved Anne of Green Gables. You clearly can't come up with anything that can add positively to the "Anne" series. The horse is dead. Stop beating it.

Mostly worth it
20 July 2008
This historical look back on Bugs Bunny and the early Warners animators is a mix between an interesting look back and a mind-numbingly bore. After a rough start, the documentary (with very old school cartoons mixed in) becomes really interesting as it contrasts the work of animation in the 1930s and "today" (the 1970s, when this was made). There is plenty of historic footage and old pictures.

I think I might have been more fascinated if I were a hard-core Looney Tunes fan. Some of the cartoons mixed in were kinda...boring.

All in all, it is very worth-while as a historic look back at the Warners Brothers cartoons and the journey that cartooning has taken between then and now.

It's okay...mainly for die-hard Lucy/Desi fans
11 March 2008
First of all, I am a big I Love Lucy fan. I own this movie as part of the three movie DVD set (Forever Darling; Long Long Trailer; Too Many Girls). This is the least enjoyable of the three.

Even being a big Lucy/Desi fan, I didn't find much to enjoy about this movie. Even the funny scenes weren't funny. This is a pretty boring movie. It's kind of like a long, unfunny I Love Lucy episode in color. And when the two main characters fight, you can't help but think of how Lucy and Desi fought in real life.

I will say that the camping scenes looked so beautiful that it made me want to take my husband up on his standing offer to go camping together.

Great Performances: The Most Happy Fella (1980)
Season Unknown, Episode Unknown
As a side note... (music from the show)
29 June 2007
I haven't seen "The Most Happy Fella," but after listening to some of the music from the 1956 original show, performed very well, I'm eager for a revival of the play. You can catch several music clips in an episode of "I Love Lucy" from the sixth season.

In this episode, the Mertzs and the Ricardos try to see "The Most Happy Fella" in New York, but Lucy has forgotten that her tickets are for a matinée showing of the sold-out show instead of for the evening performance they arrive for. They sneak in and out of the theater throughout the episode, and viewers are treated to a lot of catchy, well-sung music from the musical in the background, such as "Standing on the corner, watching all the girls go by" and "Big D" (as in Dallas).

From what I can tell, the 1956 show and the 1980 show are essentially the same. Hopefully, we'll be able to see more soon. It seems like it'd be a great show.
