National Treasure (2004)
No surprises here.
I rented this movie because I've heard it mentioned in relation to Pirates of the Caribbean which i really liked(from the box it seems the two movies share the same producer).
While i knew seeing Nicolas Cage pretending to be an academic would be tough, i hoped a good story good see me through.
Unfortunately there is no such good story, as the plot is completely without surprises. You can always tell almost exactly what is going to happen next. This might not be so bad if it was pulled of with style, wit or a sense of humor, but all of these features seems missing in action.
The movie is in many ways (very) similar to the Tomb Raider movies in the characters surrounding the 'hero'(i wont give the details at that is a potential spoiler) and many of the major scenes. If you loved(not just liked :) the Tomb Raider movies, you will probably enjoy this movie.
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Never have the victims of a horror movie been so stupid!
(please pardon my poor English) I must admit I'm surprised that this movie is so well liked. I cant say i liked it. It starts off poorly, not using enough time to build up to the disaster. I actually spent more time laughing than actually being "scared", simply because the survivors(not the zombies :) are so incredible unintelligent, only barely smarter than the zombies themselves. After watching a while, i really couldn't be afraid of the zombies, it seemed the only reason they managed to kill anybody at all, was because the survivors made one suicidal plan after another.
On the other hand, the movie was somewhat entertaining when viewed as a black comedy instead of a horror movie.
Freefall (1994)
Amazing crap!
I was simply stunned by how poor this movie is! Its not so much the thin story(lots of good movies have poor plots), its the incredibly poor acting by the main characters. Normally i would turn off the TV upon encountering a movie such as this, but this one kept me enthralled simply due to the poor script and acting. The two main characters seem just as phony as cheap soap opera actors on a bad day. The obvious sexual encounter between these two also seems kind of odd, and out of place at the time. Don't waste money on this film, but if you have nothing better to do, and don't believe, i think you should definitely watch it the next time its on TV.
Hulk (2003)
The most boring movie i have seen in a long time
I must say im very surprised at the good ratings this movie has been getting. Personally i found the acting to be extremely dull and almost amateur-like. But perhaps it had something to do with the horrible plotline and the amazingly moronic dialogue. Basicly the story tries for big time epic drama but stumples and falls almost immediatly.
I find the horror of this movie surprising after seeing the pretty succesful movie adaptations of other comicbooks heroes, like Spiderman and X-men.
I give it a 1/10, and i think its incredible that i didnt fall asleep while watching it.
The Patriot (2000)
Nauseatingly americanified story
I think you have to be american to enjoy this movie: Mel Gibson is a good actor but better suited for more humorous plots. The story and characters are so oversimplified(english = evil, american > good) that i almost left the cinema during the last half. And the ending, dont talk to me about the ending.. urgghhh...
