The Eco Show (2021)
Great show
Great show touching on a variety of Australian environmental topics, bringing them to mainstream Australia and the world. There is a cool and calm host, Bridie "The turnips are really crunchy" Shepherd (who I once taught at university). Australia, specifically Victoria in the south east ( I also saw Hobart in Tasmania) , is shown to have a variety of organisations and groups working toward environmental sustainability and the conservation of animals. Useful episode on Flannegan Island (Gippsland), which is nicely conserved in private ownership. Bridie also has TV shows on remote Japan on Vice Media, with a lot of eating of traditional foods.
Tangle (2009)
Great for Melbourne locals
We live 5km from where this was filmed in the posh suburbs of Kew and Abbotsford, to the east of Melbourne. These are generally affluent locations, with rightward-voting well heeled residents. The designer houses, Victorian architecture, and private schools and their chapels lent the series extra interest for locals like us. We liked the unravelling and deception of the main (white, this was before diversity expectations in casting) characters, as they behaved childishly (Nat), lustfully (almost all) and illegally (the teens, and Vince). The travails of a group of entitled adult parents paralleled the exploits of their teenage children.
Chosen (2022)
Good Scandinavian noir sci-fi
This was an excellent series for teens up to older sci-fi fans. There are twists in the tale, with some predicable confusions affecting the main character, Emma and her struggle to find out who she is. Good and bad aliens (who is who? We never really know) co-inhabit a decaying Danish port city - wish I could place where it is filmed exactly, it does not look like Copenhagen outskirts. Hope the series is renewed. Younger reviewers find the behaviour of the town's teenagers 'stupid', and the older characters are a bit wooden, but you can enjoy it all, although fast-forwarding Emma staring into the night is a good idea.
