Power Play (2003)
100 minutes of my life wasted
My one line summary should explain it all, but I'll have a go at it.
From the get-go, this movie seemed like an overdone soap opera, and that's about all I can comment on. There were a few interesting scenes, such as the "Big one" that hit during the middle of the movie, but, wait, what's that? The earthquake *gasp*, wait a minute! That's Dante's Peak! Well, parts of it butchered and slapped in. I can't believe how poorly this movie was done, "borrowing" scenes from other, much better films. One wonders what director thought that viewers are dumb enough to believe large wooded mountain-esque backdrops exist in downtown LA, ala Dante's Peak.
My advise, forget the Bond Wanna-be, Nash, in this film and go for the real thing (again, someone from Dante's Peak coincidentally.)
Resident Evil (2002)
From a die-hard RE fan, it ROCKS!!!
I've been waiting for this movie for years, and I'm glad that it was true to the game and worthy for RE fans all over the globe. I've played every game (except Gun Survivor) and I probably speak for everyone when I say that the first time you played a Resident Evil game, there were parts that scared the crap out of you (try in surround sound and you'll see what I mean). This movie has the same effect. I don't want to give away the plot (it's pretty obvious), but there were special effects in the movie that were as gory as they were awesome (the elevator, the laser room, the hives 'city simulator'). Milla Jovovich (The Fifth Element) plays the perfect role of the games 'Attractive heroine who kicks zombie butt'. I can't express how typical this movie is of the RE genre (That expression being a very good thing). The ending follows closely to the opening of the game Resident Evil:2, and anyone who saw the ending and didn't understand it, just watch the opening sequence in the video game to get a really awesome, graphic explanation. 9 out of 10 for being such a good game-to-movie.
Kaubôi bibappu: Cowboy Bebop (1998)
One word to describe it. "Wow"
Being a big fan of traditional animation (By traditional I mean Disney, WB, HB, etc) I really had never gotten into anime much until recently. Cartoon Network has been running Midnight Run/Adult Swim for about a year, which in my opinion is a great way to show us less fortunate Americans that you don't have to be Disney to make animation that sells.
I had the privilege to first watch Bebop on session 11, Toys in the Attic. I hadn't even heard of Bebop before mistakenly stumbling onto it channel surfing. It didn't take much to get me hooked. As an avid fan of classical music, when Tchaikovsky's Waltz of the Flowers played to the fridge spinning in space, that's what dragged me in. The next day I had to know who all the characters were so went and bought the first DVD in the 6 DVD set. DVD 2 came next, and the rest should be in my collection soon.
I've never seen *anything* as awesome as Bebop. The animation is sharp, crisp, and the music in almost every episode in itself is a masterpiece.
In closing, if you haven't seen it, you should. You're missing out on a lot if you don't.
See you space cowboy...
