IF (2024)
Awful movie, IMDB rating is not justified
This was an awful movie to me. The first hour should have been done in 5 mins. Awful fake situations and background music to create unnecessary and unjustified tension. The story has no diverse representation - it is a story about trauma, being unsupported and dissociation done very poorly.
The ending goes well because of the character's life, the point of the story has no impact to the journey.
It is trying to be very cute but it would have helped immensely if there were actually a point and a story. None of the emotion landed for me.
So so awful it should be rated 0.7 not even 1. Two hours of my life and 25 dollars I'm never getting back.
Force of Nature: The Dry 2 (2024)
Dull, just like the book - Eric Bana couldn't save it
I didn't like this book either. I really enjoyed the dry and I was so looking forward to seeing Eric Bana play Aaron Falk again but even he couldn't save the movie for me.
The story of Aaron's mother is never put into context with his family story from part 1, which mentioned nothing about his mother.
The ending with the gratification of sending Daniel to jail doesn't quite land because it is left for later. A detective feeling smug doesn't quite finish it for me.
The serial killer victims' closure also never lands.
I'm glad I only spent $6.99 to watch this movie after renting it on Prime. The book clearly seemed like it was a play to make a screenplay and now even that didn't land for me.
Seeing some of the Aussie scenery and listening to the Aussie accent was good for my homesickness. It's not really believable that they would send office workers without property tracking and SOS equipment in this day and age in such dense forest terrain.
This movie is a hard pass for me.
Murder Mubarak (2024)
Pankaj Tripathi is brilliant. Sara Ali Khan cannot act
Karisma Kapoor is underutilized. Sara Ali Khan is the weak link and makes the movie a drag. Pankaj Tripathi keeps it interesting and it's the only reason I watched till the end. The ending is predictable but the notice for murder and the trigger is weak. How can the murderer be sorted and manipulative and lose it at the same time. It doesn't quite fit for me.
Unnecessary amount of swearing. Having every work punctuated with f*** doesn't make for acting. It's good that Indian cinema is trying this genre and tried to create the PD James type of mystery in a closed community.
Delhi socialite setting is quite cliche.
Crew (2024)
What a fun ride!
I enjoyed this movie so much, I am so glad it was all I was hoping for and more. The narrative was fast paced, no lazy side distractions, no long rambles. All the important parts are played and driven by women, the women representation doesn't match stereotypes. There is a continuous thread of women supporting women. Another continuous thread of women caring, being strong, being very competent. How amazing!
My favorite - obviously Bebo. So good to see her rocking this role.
Please make more movies like this. Show women being independent human beings rather than the typical Hindi film stereotypes. The background music was also so so good!!!
